I thought this deserves a topic

How and when did you aquire your copy of Robot Arena 2?
How did you find out about the game?

I remember when I first found out about the game, it was because its trial version was on the KaZaA front page. As a Robot Wars fan, I downloaded it.

I first tried out a little building, but got confused on how to make it work, then started playing around with the Rookies team's bots. I remember playing some tabletop matches with Forkie, until the trial ran out, and I figured 'hey, if this is Robot Arena 2, there should be a Robot Arena 1 out there somewhere'. I found it on KaZaA and played around with it, also encouriging some friends to dl it as well to play some online matches.

Then, months (maybe years) later, I was bored and decided to strawl around with Explorer, and found the RA2 folder. I opened the tutorials map, started reading and was like 'oh sh**, this game has endless possibilities!', got all excited, and started googling on where to find my copy. I found one at bol.com (the Dutch equivalent of amazon), bought it straight away and played for years without noticing the community.
I knew the game had a web site, though, but only used the bot exchange to download the most awesome bots out there back then.
I told my friends I built em myself and kicked their sorry asses with them.

Years passed and the bot exchange disappeared because Atari took over Infogrames, but as I was looking for Rollercoaster Tycoon 2 tracks, I changed the url from RCT2 to RA2 and I rediscovered it.
My mindset being 'those guys probably know it already', I made an account on the wizforum that 'if anyone wasn't aware yet, the bot exchange moved here'

I even remember what the thread was called. "n00bs like me", because I thought most of the users knew about it, but was just trying to help those like me that didn't know.
I was surprised these forums were so active, goose complimented me on my 'quality find' and XRAH just quoted "Welcome to the Roller Coaster Tycoon 2 track exchange"

My 2nd post, tactful like I've always been, was "Click the 'tracks' link. Hey I've found a n00b like me :-)"

I remember our beloved ACAMS quoting me and saying "I still crack up every time I see this".

That's how I enrolled into the community
I wasn't planning to write a long story like this, but I'm bored I guess
Sup

I bought mine off the internet (I forget which site, most likely Amazon). Before that, I tried the demo several times before, and was so confused about building bots. I joined the forum and learned more!

I found RA1 at Target (or maybe Fred Meyer) a hundred years ago. After a short while of lurking on the official forums, I joined. This was maybe a few weeks or so before DaStompa (TDS on AceUplink) was banned for posting Goatse.

RA2 at the time was in development, and that tech demo existed, but nobody knew for sure if and when it would come out.

More time passes and I was a member of both the AU forums and the official forums. Official information finally surfaced, and AU had a preview write-up and some screen shots. Discussions often consisted of what we'd build first and whether or not RA2 would be better than the Battlebots game for GameCube and PS2.

Even more time was gone and the game was out. I ordered my copy from Amazon, so I had to wait a couple of days for it to ship. When I got it, I was amazed by the building options. At some point I formed Team Predator for online tournaments. I never competed myself (dial-up), but my teammate would sometimes use my bots.

Teams/clans went away. Online was laggy, custom parts had compatibility issues, and other reasons I have since forgotten.

I stopped going to AceUplink (the forums, at least). I was asked to provide graphics for B4B and serve as a moderator on the forums by JimXorb. Grawss and HackerX split off from B4B and started RA-Reborn. I think it was because B4B was clearly on its way out, and they didn't like the promotion of Be0t. I was friends with the guy, though he was quite n00bish at times. I don't think I was ever on staff at RA-Reborn.

I don't really remember what happened then. I left the official forums at some point, having lost interest in RA2. Either shortly before leaving, or shortly after, I was made head admin at the official forums for the Canadian television series The Electric Playground. I continue to administrate there.

So yeah. That's about it. That's probably way more information than was needed, but whatever. Oh, and for the record, that Battlebots game was canceled shortly before it was supposed to be released. Screen shots still exist of it, though, and they look great.

Bargain bin somewhere. Only previous interest in robotics was the lego mindstorms. Thought the game looked cool, turned out I was right, here i am 3 (?) years later.
You got my vote for RA2 Wizard. Always and forever.

I blame G.K. who found out about it through Sonny_Ressetti and Replica Wars. But this was started by the person who founded RWW, Christophee.
Better than GK since 2009.
I think SM is a pretty cool guy, eh builds unicycle-bots and doesn't afraid of anything

Back in May, I was looking thru the BattleBots vids on Youtube and a RA2 vid popped up. It looked cool, so I downloaded the free trial. I then convinced my mom to buy it off of Amazon :P Then after 3 months of playing, discovered the forums and registered.

Back in the release time of RA2, when RW was still happening (I think), I downloaded the trial and thought it was pretty awesome even though I didn't really get it.

Trial ran out.

Early last year, I was getting back into the robot stuff, rediscovered RA2, did the same thing as lloopp, and eventually discovered this place :D

I was just browsing trough Piratebays Games section looking for intresting torrents and saw Robot Arena 2 and decided to try it out. Then played for months with my freind thinking that we were the only ones who know about the game. Then tried a little google seach for custom components wich lead me to GTM, I joined with my old account(forgotten password and registered email no longer working) I also soon found the wizforums, wich was much more active than GTM at the time and joined there.
