Title: Concerned
Post by: andrewm0304 on January 09, 2009, 01:42:19 PM
I don't know why I'm discussing this here but just looking for input. On the 24th of December I  experienced a panic attack, rather severe. From that day I have become worried about everything that doesn't feel quite right with me. I become so concerned that it is a serious illness or disease that I get horrible anxiety. Today for instance, I have been having a dull to sharp pain in the chest, and I am so concerned that it is a Heart Attack. I'm only 22 though. :/

I think that most of the symptoms are just my anxiety but I have become so concerned that it is almost constant worry. Looking for any positive feedback, if any of you have experienced similar things or have any tips for the chest pain. :( I'm starting to become depressed and such, I don't know where this could go.

Well, I don't want to sound like capt. Obvious, but go see a doctor concerning your pain in the chest problem. It may be psychological or not. Better safe than sorry.

And regarding your consant anxiety, everyone experiences this. I did, too.  Try to focus on something else, go out, meet people, relax, live (an dlove) your life. The more you think about it, the worse it may get. The problem is most probably temporary, it should pass. If it does not, and you're afraid you can't deal with it by yourself, go see a psychologist, he will help you.

But most importantly, remember that you're not alone. A lot of us have gone through this.

Find a girlfriend.....the problems that causes will keep your mind off your other problems.....plus you might even get a little. (don't ask for a blowjob on the first date)

This is the Internet Police. Slowly turn off the computer, and step away .....

Seriously, though, go get that chest pain checked out.  May be nothing, but ya never know ... As for anxiety and depression, been there, done that, and believe it or not, you CAN make it through both of them and be okay on the other end.  Focusing on your depression will make you even more depressed, so try to do things that you like, or, as the Tin Can said, find yourself a woman - you won't have time to worry about anything!

Were all behind you, I hate seeing people like this. Definetly go see someone for the chest pain, and that will probably get your worrys away.

Mad: Thank you, I noticed that.

S32: Dude .........there's a difference between "respectfully abusive" and "flat-out suicidal."  I kinda don't think this falls into the former category ...... I'M not even crazy enough to pull a stunt like that.

I think my anxiety and such has caused GERD. Anybody else have something like that? Its nice to be sure what I'm dealing with now but now I'm concerned that it will turn into something bad, even though I went to the doctor and she wanted to treat me for it and gave me pills. I find that food doesn't seem to smoothly get down my throat sometimes and it worries me... XP

Hopefully its just normal Acid Reflux and I just haven't treated it yet so it just got bad... dunno all of this seemed to get better and now its worse again. I don't know why, but my mind likes to drift off into suicide-type things, for the past week or so I have been generally better though and now I'm just back into it.

NO suicidal-type thoughts here, Andrew!  That just makes you more depressed.  I'm the only one allowed to act suicidal, because I'm nuts, anyway .....

If it is the acid reflux and you're on pills, you might want to discuss having a small surgery done to take care of the problem.  After a while on the pills (and they DO get expensive at five bucks a pill a day), your body builds up a tolerance, and they stop working.  There's a small surgery that can be done to take care of the acid reflux - my g/f had it - and it will definitely help.  I know, surgieries can be scary, but why put a Band-aid on a problem over and over again when you can just fix the problem the first time?

Thanks for the support, the thoughts pop into my head but I never take them seriously, or at least I never think about it more than that.

What do they do in the surgery exactly, Does it get rid of it forever or does it just help for a period of time?

It pretty much gets rid of the problem permanently. Your stomach may still produce a lot of acid, but it won't be giving you the "heartburn" effect anymore.

The way my gf had it done, they put five small openings in her chest for the instruments, right below the ribcage, and then carefully tightened up the sphincter at the top of the stomach.  She was in and out of the hospital in maybe a day or two.

See, the odd thing is I don't really have the heartburn type feeling. I just sort of a sore throat and its hard to swallow things sometimes, it feels like it doesn't get through the esophogaus smoothly. I'll have occasional chest pain and sometimes wheezing noises so the doctor suggested that she treated me for GERD, not really sure what to think at the moment.

If it becomes necessary then I'll talk to them about it. ;)
