What is this blasphemy? Reading? On a forum dedicated to games?
Seriously, though, what books are you lot interested in?
Personal favorite: Watchmen.
Read it.
Now.
I MEAN IT.
-
anything Knootzs.( i think i got that right)
but "from the corner of his eyes" is the best IMO
-
Inheritance Cycle.
Last Apprentice series.
Harry Potter.
Any book with scary, heart-stopping moments.

So I assume you like Stephen King too?

So I assume you like Stephen King too?
No. I've read the entire Dark Tower series, and it was so anticlimactic
I couldn't bear it. He is quantity, not quality.
-
He's just a money maker...
Speaking of fiction, my all time favorites are Dune (read only three of the entire collection, but still it's great), and in a lesser extent LotR.
-
HARRY POTTER!!!!!! I have read every book about 15 times (not even exadurarting, it could actually be more)
-
The Alex Rider series, by Anthony Horowitz.
-
Cujo all the way!
-
His Dark Materials series, Most of the Harry Potter books, Does that Real Robots magazine count? Oh, and the zombie survival guide, 3 different encyclopedias, 15 different Nat geographic magazines and 2 dictionarys, one dedicated to science.
-
The Alex Rider series, by Anthony Horowitz.
True Dat!
i went to Barnes and Noble today (a bookstore) and had 12 books i wanted to buy. All new books. All different series. ><. I got two cause they were all like $20.
-
I got Snakehead about 2 weeks after it came out.
-
The Zombie Survival Guide is probably the closest thing to a book that I've read lately. I remember reading some stuff by Robert Jordan a while back.
-
Where to start!
Memory, Sorrow, and Thorn by Tad Williams... recently read it and it might be my all-time favorite fantasy series.
The Shannara books by Terry Brooks... I'll admit the first one (The Sword of Shannara) is fairly generic for fantasy, but his later books only get better.
The Wheel of Time by Robert Jordan, who sadly died recently (though the last book is being finished by another author)
The Dune books, both the originals by Frank Herbert and the new ones by Brian Herbert and Kevin J. Anderson
The Ender books by Orson Scott Card... might be my all-time favorite sci-fi (the earlier ones at least)
The Dark Wing by Walter H. Hunt. Not well known but it's a very imaginative, interesting science fantasy quartet. I feel like there should be one more book though.
All of Ted Dekker's books, especially the Books of History series. He's a Christian thriller/fantasy author but is crossing over into mainstream.
The Wizard Knight by Gene Wolfe. I also read his Book of the New Sun... hard to get into, but worth the read in the end.
Inheritance cycle and Harry Potter (I think everyone who likes fantasy likes those)
I'm currently reading Stephen King's Dark Tower. It's not the best fantasy I've read but it's pretty good so far. It's certainly not generic at all.
-
For me, it would be:
The Golden Compass
The Subtle Knife
The Amber Spyglass
All by Phillip Pullman.
-
Books, hmm... Nope, no books for me, unless Guinnes world records count? Or Black Kight by Don Rosa(got his autograph in this book :D)
-
I got Johnny Pesky's autograph in his biography yesterday, along with Chris Carpenter, Jonathan Papelbon's two twin brothers, and Bernie Carbo.
-
Autographs i have, roboteers (About 100 roboteer autographs, including Chris, house bot opperater and the RW judges!) and Jaquline Wilson (She came to my school, i won tickets to see her...)
-
My Side of the Mountain by Jean Craighead George was a good read for me when I was in my early teens, it also gave me the munchies.
The far Side of the Mountain was gaywardspitonanoctopus because it took the mystery of being, "alone in the wilderness, survivor-man style", out....
-
For me it'd be...
Anything by Alistair Reynolds, good large-scale sci-fi reading.
ALL Terry Pratchett books, they are hilarious.
EVE: The Empyrean Age by Tony Gonzales was pretty good.
And I just finished reading The Reality Dysfunction by Peter F. Hamilton, all 1225 pages of it. It's a great book but some people may find it hard to follow the story line, it starts off with about 10 characters all in different places who eventually either come together or are killed off. It's a bit anticlimactic though.
And a while ago during a holiday in Ireland I read The Algebraist by Iain M. Banks, it also branches out a bit but in the end it's a good read.
Yeah I know, this amount of reading is completely uncool for someone my age.
-
I LOVE Animal Farm and Lord of the Flies
-
Douglas Adams's stuff.
The Hitch-hikers Guide To The Galaxy trilogy (of 5) is legendary.
And I'm quite excited, because there's a new one coming out. XD

-
artemis fowl is quite cool
harry potter suks

-
I love Alex Rider too.
Young Bond series is also really good. I also read Doctor Who novels. 'Cos I can.
EDIT: Forgot about Artemis Fowl. Agree with Duck, but not on the Harry Potter front. Never heard Percy Jackson or Theif Lord. On the subject of AM though, the same auther who wrote Am is writing the new Hitch-hikers...
-
I LOVE Animal Farm and Lord of the Flies
I will agree with that. Didn't really loved LotF though.
Moby Dick is awesome, and the Tom Sawyer series are pretty good too.
Ah, and in another style i'm forgetting Elric's Cycle too...
-
Company: by Max Barry
The Game: by Neil Strauss
Lady Chatterly's lover: by D.H. Lawrence
The Tibetan Book of the Dead: no specific author
-
The Far Side by Gary Larson.
-
Fav books - probably Harry Potter.
I like Doctor Who novels (like Weirdo - cos I can) and the Torchwood ones.
Alex Rider's pretty good too.
-
Moby Dick is awesome, and the Tom Sawyer series are pretty good too.
I love TS too!
-
Books by Cornelia Funke, Artemis Fowl, and I'm curently reading the Guardian of Ga'Hoole series.
-
Deltora Quest series by Emily Rodda and the horrible History/Science/Geography series.
-
Probably the best book I have read in a while is Saturday Night Dirt by Will Weaver. It's about a group of local dirt track racecar drivers on one particular Saturday night, it gives each of their stories of the night. I can relate to the book because I was pretty much raised at the local dirt tracks on Friday and Saturday nights. Plus it's fairly simple... which is always good. lol

Time for an update. And a 1 month bump, but it's on topic so it's OK.
I just finished reading Elantris by Brandon Sanderson. Decided to pick it up since he's finishing the late Robert Jordan's Wheel of Time, see what his writing is like. And WOW--the final Wheel of Time books are in good hands. This is only Sanderson's first book but you would never know from reading it, except for the frequent misspelling of "thought" as "though", but that doesn't affect the quality or originality of the story (which is high). Recommended for all fans of fantasy who want a break from Tolkein-esque adventures.
Also, Tad Williams is now officially my favorite author.
His standalone fantasy The War of the Flowers is what did it. It's original, compelling, wondrously detailed, and the ending couldn't have been more perfect. I would describe it as Stephen King meets Harry Potter.
Then his four-book Otherland science fiction series just reinforced my opinion of him. This story can only be described as EPIC. It contains joy, sorrow, and plenty of humor, and is both bizarre and at the same time totally serious and believable. The cast of characters is massive, and they're all truly individual, no cookie-cutter stereotypes. I don't know how he does it. It's about a lifelike virtual-reality network, but any similarity to The Matrix ends there. There's really nothing else like it.
So, yeah. I just had to share that. Because anyone who likes fantasy/sci-fi should read those books.

Oh man, You are one real advertizer Click.
I'm currently Reminicing Carl Sagan's CONTACT, And I'm seriusly desprate for a copy of Expedition or Life After Man...
-
I finished reading Red Scarf Girl for Summer Reading.
-
I am trying to find a book called Super Stock Rookie by Will Weaver. It is the sequel to Saturday Night Dirt that I mentioned before. I have looked at various stores (everywhere from Wal-Mart to Barnes & Noble) and have come up nothing. I'm sure it can be ordered online but my family doesn't order much off the internet.
-
I go to Barnes and Noble at least once every week (that's how much I love books).
-
Oh man, You are one real advertizer Click.
Well that's what this thread is for, right? Talking about books you like?
Do we have no other fantasy aficionados on this forum? I thought fantasy and video games sort of went hand in hand.
Well there's eFFe, but he doesn't post anymore. I do plan to read that Song of Ice and Fire series he mentioned...
-
Reading the Septimus Heap series by Kathryn Lasky.
-
I don't read em, I make my own.
-
Share a few with us ribbs!
-
I have one in the works, but I need more time. Damn writers block.
-
I read pretty much anything fantasy. Forgotten Realms the Inheritance Cycle, Lord of The Rings. I've read it all. I've recently finished the last book in The Faerie Wars Chronicles by Herbie Brennan. I've also read Artemis Fowl and Alex Rider. Oh, and the Pendragon series by DJ Mchale is awesome too.
-
BUMP
I will happily read anything, but whatever it is, I'll read it very quickly. I'm the fastest reader I know, I've read four 300 page books in one day, various Harry Potter books in one day each, LotR in one day and once I read 100 pages of an Artemis Fowl book in 15 minutes.
My personal favourite series is T.R.A.C.E.S. by Malcolm Rose (Currently re-reading the series for the umpeenth time, backwards). I also enjoy Harry Potter, Antonoy Horovitz's books, The Inheritance Cycle, Alex Shearer's books, Eoin Colfer's, the Young Bond books, Doctor Who books, The Hitchiker's Guide to the Galaxy and football (soccer) autobiographies.
-
Gardians of Ga'hoole FTW
I'm also a fan of The westing game
and freak the mighty, shilo, waggits tale, ect.
-

I'm currently reading "Myths of the Norsemen" by Roger Lancelyn Green
Awesome stuff! I had no idea that Odin, Thor, and Loki were such colorful mythological characters.
-
Halfway past Chuck Palahniuk's "Lullaby". Finished Fight Club, Survivor, Diary, Rant, and Pygmy before reading this.
-
Just finished reading "The Catcher In The Rye"
-
^read that last month.
-
CHERUB. Nuff said.
-
They suck.
-
Harry potter was a pretty good series
-
Absolutely.
-
I know a thing or two about books and that's a book.
-
How did I miss this post?
I don't read em, I make my own.
I know that sounds cool, but good writers also do a lot of reading... also helps with inspiration.
I don't think I've mentioned this here yet but I also like to write, in fact I'm about halfway through a novel and it's coming along nicely, no sign of writer's block yet  I also have a couple of short stories I wrote for classes which turned out quite good, and a finished novel I did a long time ago and is basically crap compared to my current writing skill level (though the plot was still decent and I re-used several elements in my current novel).
Maybe we ought to have a writing thread here.
As for books I've read... I've recently gotten into Stephen R. Lawhead; I just got through the third book in his Pendragon cycle and it's quite good, though the ending of book 3 confused me a bit. Planning on getting Hood next. Right now I'm on A Song in Stone by Walter Hunt... not normally the type of book I would pick up, but I really liked his Dark Wing series so I thought I'd give it a try. So far, I'm not disappointed.
My favorite is still Tad Williams' Otherland though... if you like sci-fi/fantasy and don't mind massive 1,000-page tomes you really need to read that.
-
Done with Lullaby. Just bought Pride and Prejudice and Zombies. Yay.
-

You did... you mentioned something in the lines of "I'm working on my fantasy epic" a long while ago.
-
Done with Lullaby. Just bought Pride and Prejudice and Zombies. Yay.
*gasp!* I was going to get that. You must tell me how it is.
I am almost done with my Norsemen book... Soon I will finally read "Fight Club" the book. My friend asked me about movies yesterday and when I told her I hadn't read the book version of that story she made sure to put her loved copy in my hands <3.
Oddly enough, I had that book, but lent it to a friend before I read it... never got it back. Now I am borrowing it from a different friend. lulz
-
I read "And Then There Were None". It was good.
-
I finished reading the twilight series and relly i dont think it was great. :/
-
ARGHH I HATE READING
Art FTW
-
I'm fond of the "His Dark Materials" series by Philip Pullman. At the moment, I'm reading The Last Lecture by Randy Pausch, because of a summer reading assignment given to us by our school. >.<

Just started reading P and P and Z, and its plot changed enough to make it a worthy read. Beats playing Plants vs. Zombies anytime. :P
And Fight Club's awesum!
