Title: Tommy's Replica Making school.
Post by: TommyProductionsInc on May 06, 2014, 06:11:29 PM
Hello kids, I'm Mr. TommyProductionsInc, and today we're gonna learn how to make replicas.

I've figured I may as well start it off with couple of pics that show how I make my replicas.
We'll start off with this guy: Rhino.

No, not that one.
THIS one:

Now, lets start with the chassis:
(https://gametechmods.com/uploads/images/33336Rhino Chassis.JPG)
As you can see, he's pretty simple in terms of chassis design. :dumb)
Here's the internals of the replica(using this chassis):

You may notic some unfamiliar components, and that's because I'm using custom components. To get an Idea as to what custom components are, just look at the custom components showcase.
These should ONLY be used for making replicas, or just-for-fun robots.
Now, as for skinning, here's what I did:

And now for a TEST RUN!

Swagtastic.
And here's the finished product:

Next up: Another Rhino tutorial...
...in DSL!!!
Edit:
If you have any questions about this thread, or replica making, please post them here.

On the next one, you should show some skinning outside of RA2.  The in-game tools are only good for marking purposes.

And propebly go for a harder target also we may want to compare the replica to the real life counterpart so a pic would be nice.

i think he went for rhino because of how easy he is to do this is a school for learning how to build replicas better not watching tommy build
also if you could make these videos that would be cool

I would if I could, but I literally have NOTHING for video tutorial making.
Can someone suggest another replica for me to build AND skin.

This is a good starting point, which is why I said "the next one."  Navigating your Robot Arena 2 folder is a very useful thing to know, and you certainly can't draw a skin if you don't know where to find it.

Something I haven't done before.

I like the sound of that one!
I'll try Grim Reaper some other time, for my main focus in terms of replica making is BattleBots competitors.

Your choice of robot should be a secondary decision.  You should decide on some techniques you want to teach, and choose a robot based on that.

this is true, but he is working on a battlebots ai pack
many battlebots competitors have the parts people can learn easily
rhino as an example is easy to do
dr. inferno jr. would be good for learning how to skin components
even him being picky is that bad
although you are resetti and i love your replicas too so
take it with a grain of salt
