Title: DSL Efficient Building Tutorial
Post by: Naryar on September 12, 2012, 11:22:18 AM
These are a few headlines about efficient and combat-effective DSL 2.1 building, though this is by no means an ultimate building guide. It is simply guidelines for making a bot well built.

Drive transition with only speed considered.

Astro + L.ant
Astro + W.ant
Astro + Vlad
Astro + Hypno
TWMR + L.ant
TWMR + W.ant
NPC + L.ant
NPCF + L.ant
NPCF + Vlad
NPCF + Hypno
NPCF + Techno

While you may deviate from this choices due to HP/shape/convenience, note that you are sacrificing speed by doing so.  Also NPC + L.ant is a huge jump from TWMR + W.ant, both in HP and speed.

Concussion is the component damage multiplier. A high-concussion weapon tends to make more damage to the components than to the chassis, and therefore is good for defense and destroying the opponent's weapon and components. Sledgehammers are pure concussion weapons.

Piercing is the chassis damage multiplier. A high-piercing weapon tends to make more damage to the chassis overall, and therefore is better for directly attacking the enemy's chassis. They tend to lose to concussion weapons however. Vlad spikes are pure piercing weapons.

Also, the weapons section may be too much information all at once.  I certainly didn't read all the weapon descriptions.  Maybe just focus on the popular weapons that are used most.

Vlads on NPC/NPCFs don't really touch the ground at all(even with it's grip mesh) if the NPC/NPCF is placed on the baseplate.

Well done, gauche. Completely incorrect.

He probably means vertically placed on the baseplate, but even then it is entirely off topic...

I agree, the weapon section could have been sum up in 2 words:

MOAR RAZORZ.

Have done some improvement on the tutorial. Changed some things so they are clearer, and changed some obviously false things.

Didn't advanced it though.

Some more feedback is needed, though.
