Title: RA2 Rock'em Sock'em

Rules:

1. General
   -The arena will be a re-skinned Boxing Ring Arena*
   -Each robot gets one Havok restart per round. If it havoks twice in one round it forfeits.
   -DSL HW
   -16 bot double elimination
   -Realstic rule will be enforced
   -No custom components or cheatbot compnents*
2. The Robot
   -must be humanoid and stand upright
   -must have a head component at the top (see section 6 of the rules)
   -must have two arms
   -weapons can only be placed on arms
   -Head must be exposed and not covered by external armor or weapons
   -must be at minimum as tall as two grape crates in the test garage*
3. Game rules
   -Matches will last two minutes. The winner will be decided by KO or points
   -Knockouts can occur if a robot loses its head, gets counted out by RA2 or if its chassis health is depleted.
   -Matches will be best two out of three*
4. AI
   - I can AI but I would prefer if entries were AI'd by their creators. (It makes it easier for me)
   - Custom py's are allowed. Only if they don't cheat. ie constantly deplete chassis hp or apply constant pressure on other robot to break stuff
5. Prizes
   -Bragging rights for the winner
   -Luz for everone else
6. Head Components
   -Head components can be found here or you can skin your own by using the Small Disc Gmf (dsldisc01.gmf)

You should do the head like the target in KoK, have it standardised for all robots.

I changed a couple of rules and hopefully Sparkey proofed them. Also I created a logo for it.

Should this be HW or MW? I'm afraid that if it's HW some rules will be abused to reach the weight limit.

Anyone remember those El Tonno robots that enjoyed a brief period of popularity on the old Atari forums?


This is kind of like that.  But in a tournament setting... it will be extremely interesting to see what people churn out.


Question: do the arms have to move (be on bursts or servos)?  And are there any length restrictions or can you have stubby T-Rex arms?

Should have the same feeling as KOK, upbeat and fun.. nobody caring either way how matches go and just having a laugh.

I love this idea so much that it would be silly to not give SKBT the Boxing Ring Arena  :gawe:

Darn I knew I was forgetting something in the rules. Yes but if one is out both are.
 
Might I make a suggestion?  You should make the matches be best 2 out of 3, like in KoK.

That actually reminds me of another point; is there going to be a height requirement?  Maybe it could be something like "minimum height of 2 stacked grapecrates, not counting the head" (since you can just put your robot in the practice arena with some crates to see if it's ok)

i don't say by that... i ask because my pc have an really awful video card and does't suport much various games... RA2 run well... but it seems slow in some parts (when there are a lot of objects in the game screen it crashes) and with DSL it looks very very slow... i can't even work with that D:

Its only the stock weapons, wheels, wedge's, connectors and plow

Extenders, Disc's, Tribars, Motors, Batteries and CB all cannot be used...

"No Hitting Below The Belt"

Bot must be build to hit area above 1 crate.  What this means is that you can't deliberate make a arm stretch all the way down to floor level to hit the stabilizers.  As that pretty much kills the who idea of boxing bots.  Or worst yet a bot that runs with FBS.py, and focuses on using it's legs (stabilizers) to sweep the other bot down.

"Must show controlled movement" should also be included.

That is a good idea; I can't be the only one who thought of usign one of the arms as a flipper.

i actually made some "boxing" robots with stock a few years back :) i had different buttons setup for both hooks and both jabs lol fun times. you could also make the robots spin around with the arms spread out to make a whirlwind type attack :P
