Light vs Dark - Signups
« on: January 02, 2017, 12:03:34 AM »
This tournament is not under copyright by me.  Feel free to rip-off this in every way shape and form.

Please refrain from telling others your team.
Though I cannot stop you from PMing each other, I highly recommend you don't.

So... Where'd I mess up?

I would change the idea slightly: instead of making the bots chosen randomly, you should have the team vote/ have a captain pick the robot to face the opponent team.

This would add a layer of strategy to the situation.

Could also set teams draft style, with 2 team captains, + let captains choose matchups like Avalanche suggested.

I question these:
A: How do we choose the Captains?
B: Which of the two captains gets their way when they have contradicting matchups?
C: Would the new goal to take down the captain?  Taking down their defenses?
I have several opinions.

A: could be volunteers, randomly selected, etc. doesn't matter that much.
B: I would do a coin flip, where winner could either have first draft pick or sets first matchup.
C: not really. Goal should still be to get most wins as a team.

Finer points to decide would be following the first match, is it the winning team that keeps the power to select the next match, or the losing team.

You serious?  This could be the biggest decision in the entire tourney.
B: This still seems way too easy to take out the good bots in the first round.  Which gives the opposite team a HUGE disadvantage.
C: It was just a random idea.

Sorry, but I'm against the captain idea.

It's an interesting gimmick, but I think something like this really needs to not be IRL.  With the whole tournament being geared towards taking out the other team, people are just gonna build tryhardbots (that's what I would do, anyway).

IRL is only an issue when you let tryhard bots through: filter out the blatant BS and you will be fine.

you might want to contact one of the actual mods to get your tournament into singups, yugi has been pretty inactive lately

Wouldn't it make sense to have a competitive tournament in a competitive metagame rather than one that is absolutely not suited for competitive battles? Also, how will you keep the teams from being horribly mismatched, for example, everyone is an edgelord and chooses dark?
im just waiting for meganerdbomb to come along and kick things into gear.

Bye bots and maximum entries.
Once a team gets fully filled everyone else will be forced to join the other team.

I'd still go with selecting which bots to use by having team votes on which of their bots is going to be used in the next round. it seems like it would add a layer of strategy to the tournament, which truly make the most use of the team gimmick. It means bots can be used to instantly counter another bot if they think the opponent will use it. A little bit of chance but mostly strategy.
