Title: Helloface's DSL2 Summer 2013 Tournament!
Post by: helloface on April 21, 2013, 01:22:05 PM
I am going to be starting an IRL DSL2 tournament using randomly generated arenas from the default DSL2 arenas, with the exception of Mars Arena. The first round will be in rumble format (Only one bot will make it through each rumble), and then there will be two 1v1 semi finals, a 1v1 3rd place playoff, and of course a 1v1 grand final. Brackets are randomly generated. Current deadline is June 17th 22th 25th, but the deadline is highly susceptible to change.

Here are the rules/restrictions:

- Only 16 bots are to be competing in the main competition (NOTE: There may or may not be qualifiers, depending on how many bots are entered. See below).
- This tournament Will still go on, as long as I have at least 1 bot submitted.
- Arena hazards will be on
- Your bot can be modified or changed, as long I receive the upgraded bot before the deadline
- Nobody can be entered until a bot is received and accepted
- Bots can only move by Walker, Shuffler, or Wheeled systems,
- Matches are 3 minutes long
- Must be a heavyweight (399.1-800kg)g
- Must use only default DSL 2.1 parts (No custom components or Cheatbot2 components)
- Can have a maximum of 2 spinning weapons
- Can have a maximum of 3 pneumatic burst pistons
- Can have a maximum of 7 Static weapons
- Can have a maximum of 2 flippers/popups
- Can have a maximum of 2 overhead weapons
- No multibots
- No "Nasty Pickle" type bots
- No flying or hovering bots
- 1st havok, restart; 2nd havok, your bot is eliminated
- Only default DSL2 armour is allowed
- Bots can only be built in botlab

Awards to be given out at the end:

You will have to change your rules quite a bit...

https://gametechmods.com/forums/index.php?topic=11455.0 (https://gametechmods.com/forums/index.php?topic=11455.0)

First of all, no one is going to send  you player controlled bots.

Second of all, better stick to only one weightclass.

Third of all, you will need to clarify your building rules.

and lastly... if it is a DSL tournament, no stock parts are allowed.

You will also have to clarify the random arena rule.

All of those have been fixed.

Wanna join my tourney?  :laughing

You, a Super Heavyweight ranked member is building a bot just for my tournament?

I love you  :heart_smiley:

Any tournaments that require entries from people need to go through the poll first (you can read about the process here (https://gametechmods.com/forums/index.php?topic=1053.0)). We've had problems in the past with people starting tournaments when they weren't ready for them so the rules were instated to prevent it.

Edit: The thread that Naryar linked to also talks about the polling process.

You should probably just drop the human controlled aspect; human controlled bots have a huge advantage.

Hmm, would like to join if you could AI for me, since I have NO knowledge about AI'ing whatsoever.

That could be a problem, Shield. My Bot exporter is broken, so I can't AI at the moment. I will try to find someone who will do it for you. Just upload your bot to the bot exchange, and I will find someone to AI it.

You can't start work on a tournament until it get's through to sign-ups because your tournament might not even get voted through.

Will enter as soon as it gets to sign-ups.

BTW, are multibots allowed?
Title: Re: Helloface's Summer 2013 DSL Tournament! *15 Spots Open* Need more submissions!
Post by: Naryar on April 29, 2013, 10:15:13 AM
It's a DSL HW tournament. I will most certainly enter as long as it is properly done, properly ruled and you show enough interest as to not drop this in the middle of the tourney.

Don't see a personal attack in that, but there have been enough abandoned tournaments for me to be wary of entering some tournaments.

Yes, yes, I know, nar ai wars. actually 2 of the bots didn't work because of their size, so I could not continue like I wanted.

No, multibots are not allowed.

Also, did you get the AI problem sorted out or do I still need to find someone?

Your rules haven't been finished yet. You need to finish them before you can accept entries.

Remember the link ? Go read it, or at least go see other tournament's rules and base yourself on this.

Else there will be a lot of mess and loophole abuse and unwanted things, trust me.

a few questions that need to be adressed :

-are cheatbot2 parts allowed ?
-what chassis armors are legal ?
-what about all the DSL2 glitches ?
-any bot types, building methods, or components banned ?
-what is your stance on out-of-botlab building ?

among others.

also HW class is from 399.1 to 800.0, not 400 to 799

When does the game crash? When trying to access botlab? When editing your bot? When exporting?

Nice work on these rules. You may want to state your point of view on uncontrolled movement bots and if they are allowed.

Thanks, and I will do that.

You are 100% right. I was overly-exited and just jumped into without really paying attention to detail; although it's almost done. I just need someone to AI then I will put up the beloved green tick :D

You shouldn't let people submit more than one bot.

Post by: helloface on May 11, 2013, 04:43:43 PM
You shouldn't let people submit more than one bot.
I allowed that because I don't expect this tournament to be very big. If there are too many bots, then I will be bias towards the bots that only had 1 robot submission. For example: If someone who entered 2 bots already had another bot pass qualifying, I would probably give the win to the guy who entered 1 bot, unless the fight was completely 1 sided.

Post by: helloface on May 11, 2013, 05:00:31 PM
Bias, really...
Not in the actual tournament, it's just if I get too many bots entered. It would kind of suck if a guy got 3 bots through qualifying but a guy who sent in 1 didn't. Qualifying is just so I can narrow the bots down to the original 16-bot bracket if I get too many.

Oh, I forgot to mention the scoring will be on a scale as followed:
3 points for damage
3 points for aggression
3 points for control
1 point for strategy
1 point for entertainment value

Also, August 1st is WAY too far away so I tightened the deadline to Monday, June 17th.

Damn, everyone watch out! That bot was one of my favorite bots in BB6.
Looks like I'll get to give Hurricane 2 a test drive.
I've been watching on your showcase, and it looks very deadly. You should probably add something to protect against flippers, because so far a couple of people said they might send a flipper. I'm sure you know what happens when unstable bots meet flippers.

If you need help with Diced's bindings you could ask MassimoV for the ones he used in BB6.

Will build some crazy spinner or something tomorrow. I'd have entered BuffalOWNED but it uses judge bursts...

Also Mike entered IFI? Sweet.

Already did :3
He said he'll give them to me tomorrow. That kind of sucks about BuffalOwned, he was my favorite Heavyweight in BB6 and I usually hate flippers. Next season I'm going to allow Judge bursts, because a few people have requested Judge bursts to be allowed. And yes, IFI looks very sweet.

Yep. Solid, and was extremely fast with a powerful flipper. Almost reminds me of Toro which was a family favorite.

Added a seeds list. IFI's and Hurricane's testing fight was REALLY close :3

That's the fourth time he's beaten me. Darn.

And may I ask, what is this "seed" that you speak of?

Just a pre-tournament list of favourites, really.

Correct, seeing as Alex is somehow seeded, despite his having a problem with AI.

Based on testing. Btw, I had another testing fight and you barely beat IFI. Very close matches.

I judged Diced on design and previous performances. I also did a few damage, pushing power, etc tests where it did good in. Like I said, it will get changed around lots.

I can't see Dusk 2 staying at such a high seed.

Chassis wedge and limited range on the disc won't get it very far, I fear. 4 NPC Fasts or not.

Fun Fact: The skirts, Hurricane can't go into corners thanks to them.

Actually, now that I think of it, it's like that T-Rex from Meet The Robinsons.  :dumb)

Some people don't showcase their entries for this very reason though. It's not really fair on them if they don't want their entries shown off before the deadline.

Actually my first DSL bot wasn't horrible. It was basically what I sent you except with a 2-mag powering it and hypno teeth. It had too many batteries and used RAD drive, but it could beat some of the AI, so I liked it. :P

Problem: The RA2 that contains all the tournament stuff crashes now. All I did this morning was fix Dusk 2 bindings, copy-pasted in the Diced bindings, and put Diced in the game. When I clicked on Diced it crashed, so I fixed Dusk 2 (Nose was messed up) and tried to fix the Diced bindings and now the game crashes as soon as I load it.

EDIT: There was a typo in Dusk 2's bindings. When I fixed it, nothing changed. The game is still crashing.

Does the game crash when you select the bots or when you open the game?

Don't worry about it. It's only AI, not components or a UI redesign or whatever. Just start from the ground up, and when you feel you've done enough, back the game up.

It was Dusk's bindings for some reason. Can anyone find an error in this?
    list.append(("Dusk 2","Omni",{'invertible:True,'nose':math.pi*2,'radius':0.1,'topspeed':100,'throttle':100,'turn':60,'turnspeed':3.5,'weapons':(14,15,16)}))
EDIT: It's the bot, not the bindings. I'll re-download it, and try to see if it crashes again.

You realise you're not actually permitted to update your own robot after you've shown it on this page, heckoface? Because then you could easily be taking advantage by editing your bot so that it's not beaten by everything else as easily.

No, I didn't know that. I won't update any more. What you see in the showcase will be the final draft for the rest of the tournement.

That's not the point. You've already changed the robot from the pic on the first post. So either revert to that version of the robot or drop out of the tourney. It's unfair otherwise.

I've just had a thought. Exactly what is it about Dusk 2 that crashes the game? It has no custom parts or anything, and it worked in the first batch of AIing and tests.

Any adjustments I make will probably have no effect on the problem, and it seems very unfair for me to make a new entry now that I know what I'm up against. :/

Don't worry about it. If there's one thing I learned from the pros, is never think your robot is going to lose unless you have evidence first. Who knows? Maybe your robot could stay out of the beginning skirmish and attack when the other robots are significantly weakened. You do have a strong gearbox and 30kg hammers after all.
