Hardbot: Touney SFTW. The razorz are angeled to where it makes it ineffective.
Jack Daniels: Looks OK...
NFX: May very well when the tournament.
Pwn: Another contender for Champion.
Scrap: Looks good, may get second place.
SM: Oddly angled plow. 0_0
Ounce: Another contender for the title of champ.
Virus Bomb: Meh.
Wacky Bob: Under Weaponed.

I was going to make a better version for this, but I didn't have quite enough time. I made one slight modification to the one entered though; so it should do better.

Thoughts on the competition:

Afterlife - interesting take on the SC3 version of Tempus Fugit, sadly it looks way too fragile to do well.
First Stock Bot I've Built in Months - Not that bad for one actually, but I'm not sure on the stability.
Brown Wreckluse 3 - From what I've seen it looks like a good contender, but I don't think the wheels will hold up, even with the minor protection they have.
Box of Grime - A pretty cool, but unfortunately outdated design.
Cacodemon - Not trying to say this in a mean way, but :SFTW .
Frost - If it's a popup then it looks okay from the outside, but that exposed front won't last against the majority of HSs here.
Zaphod Stock 2 - It's very well-built, but those weapons won't last against a few of the other HSs here.
Kill IV - Ditto regarding the weapons, but lacks the bursted motor and the front protection of the previous bot.
Pork Chop Express - Comendations on being able to fit those weapons on a LW dual HS.
Death By Purple 3 - looks surprisingly like my entry :O, although I wonder whether using a ramplate is worth 1 less weapon.
Trigger - Looks like the average LW popup, but if it has HPZ drive like I think it does then it's potentially a very formidable opponent.
Simply Volatile - Easy to guess what it is based on, but there's already a MW version of the original with the same name :P. That doesn't make it a bad bot though.
Dark Void 2 - Contest is over.
Protostar U*1Z6M- I originally was going to enter something completely different, but after three attempts at coming up with a decent new design I said "f*** it" and send in this instead.
Tyrantarous - It looks pretty well-balanced: Can't say much more really.
Ketchup Burn - Looks pretty good despite basically being a Child's Play IV clone. I just wish it was invertible.

While I'm here I might as well look at my heat:

I can definitely beat Enigma and probably Pwnator; depends on whether or not that thing's packing HPZs, but not Badnik unless his bot is unstable.

Click- I like this one. Might have some trouble against popups though?

Enigma- It could actually have some potential, except the chassis is too big. #2 SFTW
Freeziez- Fairly good popup, but the front is too exposed (especially considering all the HSs in this tourney :P).
G.K.- Kewl. #2 BEST
Hard Bot- Meh, because that diagonal razor is blocking the other 2 from hitting the chassis. #3 SFTW
Jack- Motors look exposed, but gj on the weapons. :)
NFX- Awesomesauce right there. TIED #3 BEST
Pwnator- Pretty good popup, but has the same problem as mine.
Scrap- Good weapons and power.
S_M- I lol'd. TIED #3 BEST
Ounce- That's a lot of weapons. O_o #1 BEST
VB- Good use of castors.
Wacky Bob- It's good for Wacky Bob.

Afterlife - Nice that you've got two HPZ weapon motors on there, but I think the chassis's a bit too exposed.
FirstStockBotIveBuiltInMonths - Looks very damaging, but only one wheel, and exposed motors might let it down.
Brown Wreckluse 3 - I think it has promise. Hopefully the wheels will hold out long enough for it to deal some damage.
Box Of Grime - I think the spinner COULD take out some higher exposed motors...though it looks slightly unstable.
Cacodemon - ...what does it do? Exposed chassis, steep wedge...I'm gonna say SFTW.
Frost - Looks similar to Enigma's entry. Maybe it's a popup, but I'm saying SFTW again.
Zaphod Stock 2 - I actually used the same SnapperII setup as this bot, I think it could go quite far.
Kill III - Very odd extender setup, and a very exposed motor. 9 razors should be okay, but I'm unsure...
Pork Chop Express - Looks interesting. Though I'm concerned about the lack of protection somewhat.
Death By Purple 3 - Very similar to GK's bot, but slightly more defensive. I reckon I should do quite well.
Trigger - I'm guessing Popup. I'm tentitively giving this my tip to win, despite the exposed chassis.
Simply Volatile - Doesn't actually look too bad. Could do well, I think, with a bit of luck.
Dark Void 2 - 9 maces: Good offense. Plow: Good defense. 1 wheel - Compromised mobility. Should be alright, though.
Protostar U*-1Z6M - Aside from the confusing name, it does look very well-rounded. Another tip to win.
Tyrantarous - Casters. Nice touch, that'll give superior defense. Weapons look good as well, this could go far.
Ketchup Burn - Similar to Child's Play IV, but I'm not sure it'll hold up too well. Nice build, though.

Final Group - Trigger, Protostar U*-1Z6M, Zaphod Stock 2, Tyrantosaur

Post by: The Ounce on April 23, 2011, 03:04:22 PM: JD, my bot is actually very well capable of destroying its opponents in less than a minute, including Child's Play IV and the SC4 rebuilds of Tempus Fugit and Aerial HK. The only real problem it has is that it uses plastic armor, however the only things that can get to it are a speedy and well-armored popup (none of which in this tourney are both), or an extremely lucky rammer.

Edit: Holy heck, I didn't think your bot had HPZ drive, Freeziez :eek: ! Guess I might have to watch my back if I'm up against you ;) .

Yeah. Getting into the corner saw totally turned the match. It was really close though. Could have gone either way! Can't wait to see your bot fight again though, it has potential.

You don't know stock LWs then... 90% of the LWs I see in the showcases and other tournaments are HS's. Which is why I felt safe entering a rammer. (The ONLY rammer, it turns out. Yay originality. :mrgreen: ) I am surprised there's not a single VS though. If it wasn't for me this would be entirely HS and popups (if you count Box of Grime as a HS which it technically is but sort of isn't).

Dragonfire, did you manage to get the v3 Tactics.py working?

I'm confident I can beat most HS's in here with the v3 Tactics. If not, it'll be much closer and I'll probably end up losing some wheels.

Judging by the AI's behavior, it was.

Rammer AI v3 would have prevented me from hitting the walls so often, so you wouldn't have such an easy time gut-ripping. It wouldn't have prevented getting stuck on my nose, however. That was an incredible stroke of luck. Even with the old Rammer AI v2 I thought I had a chance once you started losing weapons and I still had both wheels. I might need to angle the axes down a bit more to help BWr3 tip onto its wheels.

Well, looks like it's only HS's and popups from here on.

Also, Wacky Bob :O

He is this tournament's dark horse.

It's easy to forget that it's actually nearly as good as Childs Play and underestimate it just because of the way it looks.

I won't be making that mistake again, however.

I knew that whoever won this match would go to round two. I was pretty sure NFX would win because his bot has maces and SD's had razors. Plus, Simply Volatile is a little bouncy. And he did. Also, since he stripped off everything from SV, I was finally able to see SD's red extender.

In a way, I sorta expected that outcome. Single-spinner LW's tend to be quite unstable sometimes, as DBP3 proved in his first fight. I should hopefully have better luck in the next couple of fights, though. If I win the next one, I reckon I'm in by default.

Which it has shown a tendency to do. Not entirely sure I'll make it to the final rumble, but I'll be very happy if I do. =D

However, RAD's at low power are painfully slow, so I don't think they'll deal much damage later on in the match.

I do think I had horrendous luck against freeziez, but Pwn's was even worse. But hey, no sense in complaining. I'll just have to beat Pwnator's popup and S_M's ludicrous machine to get to the final.

One thing we have larned from this tournament, though, is that conventional one-spinner HS' aren't worth crud. =D

It seems like this is the ultimate darkhorse tourney. Whoever ends up champ should challenge Sage in the challenge thread because he had high expectations for his bot that didn't make the cut in time.

I am compelled to apologize :/ I thought that I had caught a huge break when my maces were skimming Ketchup's wheels and chassis... didn't last long enough though. Ultimately, we locked horns and then drained our batteries to the point where reverse wasn't going to come easy. I really feared that the plow was going to be the deal breaker... it pretty much was until the count-out. You got my respect WB.

Edit: Just re-watched the match... yeah, Ketchup's energy got drained pretty bad. Pinks powered I imagine?

I'll admit, I was SERIOUSLY shocked at that, because DBP3 had beaten Childs Play IV several times in testing, so I was expecting I'd be able to beat Ketchup Burn as well. I guess I'm just having some pretty terrible luck with this tournament. Though at the moment, my money's on either JD or SM.

This tournament does seem to have had a way of screwing people around. I'm still quite PO'd about losing to freeziez, I think he did get extremely lucky there. But hey, not much point complaining now. I still think I'm gonna put my money on SM.

You definitely have, but your bot had literally no health left. My bot beat pretty much everything during testing, it was never that easily destabilised.

Cool match. Best parts were when Dark Void 2 kept bouncing on his maces and when Pork Chop Express got destroyed at the exact same moment that Tyrantarous got immobilized.

You can't do that, it would affect the remaining fights in the final. Even if you don't manage to get any KO's, your bot can still act as a distraction for the other bots which could then get attacked from behind by someone else.

Plus, there's always the possibility (even if it is a remote one) that you could make a bit of a comeback and knock somebody out.
