Wacky Bob's Workshop
« on: January 11, 2011, 07:25:59 AM »
Note: The bots shown on earlier pages of this showcase do not reflect my current building style

Hi everybody, this is my Stock Showcase. Here's my most recent bot, Exquisite Gorilla:

Outside:

Inside:

Even though he only has two batteries, he's still pretty fast. He uses one of the two techniques:

1. Drives on his back wheels until someone charges at him. Bots usually end up under him trying this, so that's when Exquisite Gorilla fires his pistons. (More common)

2. Uses pistons while driving on his hind wheels to flip on his backside, Not upside-down. He then drives around, poking people with the two razors sticking out of him. (Less common)

Here's how you do it, just put the URL of your image between IMG tags. And the code is here just so it doesn't shows as a picture.

Thanks for that, Naryar. Maybe I'll get it to work next time.

I don't think you need the spikes in the back. Try to put a black battery in there.

Well, I want to keep him a Middleweight, and the Supervolt would make him too heavy. I don't think I could fit it either, but it would be nice to have him go a little faster.

2 Pink Batteries are sub-lightweight territory, you do really need to get some more battery power in there. From what I can make out, the front wheels are pretty much useless, so I'd suggest you remove them to start with. 86kg is a heck of a lot of weight here. With that, I'm guessing you could add some more razors on him, and give him some extra battery power. And you'll also want to upgrade the drive to Z-Teks, preferably the High Power version. Rammers require lots of speed. And your wheels should be Shiny hubs, they are by far the most weight-effective wheels in the game.

Maybe I'll try that, I just like N-12 wheels.

You might want to try that

http://beetlebros.gametechmods.com/ra2techs.htm

And in stock, all wheels are the same, excepted from size and weight. So for your design, shiny hubs are the best.

N12s indeed look cool, and waste weight as well. But the weight saved by using shinies can lead to even cooler things

I like the inginuity in this bot, it's different, well done (ofcourse though, you'll still have to improve if you want to make trully competitive designs  ;)).

Yea, thats true.
But then again, you wont have the ability to have your robot look like a monster truck.

1. Never use angle connectors, they're a waste of weight
2. Always use shineys if possible
3. Try to fit in one black
4. Download RFS AI v5.0 to start off with, and progress to starcore.

1. Angle connectors can be used in extreme circumstances, or if there's no other alternative, a little bit like Parabolic Trajectory's wamming rack. But they should generally be avoided in normal building.

2. Shinies do use up less weight, but Rubber wheels are a good choice on a well-built popup, doe to the fact they give you extremely low ground clearance. Grannies are also good for an HS if you require invertibility.

3. I agree with this point, although if he's sticking to Redbirds for whatever reason, a Nifty might be enough. I'm not certain.

4. I think the first point of order should be trying to beat EMERGENCY fairly quickly. Once you've got that done, you can progress to the AI packs with a reasonably level of confidence.

I'll do that.

Right now, I'm upgrading him with all the suggestions you suggested, but I'm trying to get rid of a 10kg ballast I put in there, and now I can't get it out. I click on the ballast to remove it, and it says "Burst Piston". It's nowhere NEAR the burst piston! I tried restarting the computer, but it's still stuck.

EMERGENCY, PREPARE TO GET THE STUFFING- er, BATTERY JUICE BEATEN OUT OF YOU! BWAHAHAHAHA!

Sorry, I just had to do that.

Is the ballast above or below the burst piston?

I'd say attaching ballast was a bad move to start with, they're really just dead weight, only any good for improving your wedges a little if you have any.

The ballast is inside the chassis. It was a really dumb move to make, it's just that there was a little empty space in there, and it looked exactly big enough to fit a ballast.

I regret it now.

Although I did beat the heck out of EMERGENCY with the first, "Exquisite Gorilla", the unfinished "X-Quiz-It Gorilla" kinda, well, blew up?

I started the battle with X-Quiz-It Gorilla and EMERGENCY. The countdown was counting down, the crowd was roaring, concessions were spilling, the janitor sweeping up the mess made by the sloppy people! Anyway, none of that mattered because the countdown reached 0! That's when the screen instantly went black and said X-Quiz-It Gorilla was eliminated. Weird. I tried it 2 more times. Same result.

I'm planning on scrapping him. What do you think?
