Title: Tibsy's Failcase
Post by: Tibsy on February 02, 2015, 02:18:58 PM
Right, bout time I did this. Now be warned I am not very good at stock, and advice is recommended so I can progress to make bots for you to uhh... Embrace?

Well anyway I'm going to start off basic with my first lightweight popup!

Hey, that not too bad for a LW popup. First off, If you want to get better, you should show us the insides of the bot, so we know what you put in there. Secondly, people may critique you for having no wedge, but that's actually not a bad thing on a LW since they mostly don't have one, but the front is way to shallow to get under anything. You might want to rebuild it so get a longer chassis wedge. Lastly, You should Effe the razors, (aka wire burst motor, place razor over attachment point, fire, then attach) to where they all hit at the same time.

Nice skin though.

It looks ok from an outside viewpoint. Can you show us the sinsidees ?

Cheers for the advice and the compliment for its skin.
I will create a much longer version of this bot. At the moment i'd like to keep this Lightweight as an example, though I do see where you're coming from with the shallow wedge point, hmm. Gives me something to work on ^^

Working on it, expect an update soon enough. Prepare your criticism xD

No, he means how to eFFe.

It's easy. Wire your either burst motor or spin motor,
then put the motor as your burst/spin motor,
then place motor under attachment point (do NOT fire !)
then put motor on the extender point, fire, let the motor spin, then attach when it is fixed).

There, problem solved. Really.

Wire = make the burst motor controllable by giving it a button control

I think he HAS got this, honestly.

Way too steep. What drive do you have? How many razors is that? 3? 4? In any case, you would most likely want to focus less on weapons and more on making your chassis as big as possible. Popups are one of the few bot types that you want a large chassis on, just make the wedge as long and as wide as you possibly can. After that, you might want to adjust your razors so that it fires upwards (think techno distructo or chaos 2 instead of firestorm). That'll let you self-right more easily.

Well after reading the advice I think I set myself a new record for crashing and burning, ahaa... Eeeh. Well I DID ask for advice, did I not?
Anyway, I improved the steep chassis, added a small wedge to aid getting under other bots, and focused less on the weapons.... Sorta.
Well, honesty is the best policy and I agree with your thoughts, stick with Ironforge and making arty-bots.

If you have weight you really should center the wedge. Downgrade to Shinies if you have to.

Unfortunately it seems I'll have to have this as a middleweight, I really don't mind. I'm here for the advice so I can take it in and whip out a bot far superior to my previous ones. I have to admit Claymore MK2 is certainly an improvement.
And I could center the wedge seeing as I've already hit the middleweight category.
...I'm not good at this am I? XD

Nah man it's still way too narrow and steep. If you want to survive against HS it'll need to be wider than that. Wedges aren't really a requirement in the LW division so you can remove it to get more chassis weight. Rubber wheels are just unnecessary for how little of a wedge war there is for LWs though. Get rid of them.

Practically given up on the LW.

we need insides m8. regardless they look pretty good, but i think rubbers are a waste of weight in the lightweight division.

Inside shots coming soon. Also, I've since 'downgraded' from the rubber wheels.
Thanks for the advice (and bot compliment, lol). ^^

Here's a HW popup with inside shots. No criticism please because it's too late as I've already (attempted) to enter it to Robots In Space where I will see it get absolutely pummeled by the better robots. Yeeah, I suck don't I?

And here's what I'll be listening to when I watch it get pummeled: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ANI_V5qV33s# (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ANI_V5qV33s#)

In the future, you are going to want at least 4wd drive on a HW popup, otherwise the bot is going to be too slow and spinner will kill it before the popup can get under them.

Thank you. But its kinda late.

Ditto.

Also, you never know. The tiers of entries I've got are at sporadic levels.

I know I've entered this blindly. But really, I'm just looking for a bit of fun, what's wrong with that?
I know I'm not the best at Stock but being honest all this is making me want to never bother with it, I'm considering deleting this thread anyway as my heart just isn't into it.

Deleting showcases is frowned upon dude. You are new, but don't just give up man. Just because you don't have a good showcase start doesn't mean you should just delete your showcase. Hell, I've had an embarrassing past in my stock showcase, but I never gave up, I just shook it off and kept trying to improve, and I did. You'll find your calling soon, it might take years, but remember to be patient.

Nothing, but the main point of a showcase is to get some points for improvement so you're bound to get some advice, even if you're just building for fun. Even though you already entered your bot, you can still take 09's advice for your future bots instead of saying he's 'kinda late'.

If you don't want to improve your stock skills, then don't take advice on board and do your own thing, no one is forcing you otherwise but don't make constructive comments put you off making bots.

Hey, don't give up.  If you're not feeling it right now, just take a break or something.  My showcase has plenty of sizable gaps in it.

Anyway, try not to get too down.

Well I've been chewed up and
spat out of Robots In Space hosted by RedAce.

I guess you lot were right... It's not effective enough.
Well, I've patched up Yeti, sadly he's officially "retired"

Thinking you should delete this showcase i see ? Hah, want to see real suckiness ?, Take at look at about 90% of my showcase, here you will see what is a noobishness filled showcase, if any showcase should have been deleted long ago and who s'existence is a shame, it would be mine, but i kept going and now if you compare the last few bots i showcased with the first ones, the diference in quality is pretty big imo, all of this because i still played stock, even if i showcased my bots very rarely, even if most of my time i spent here was lurking, i still built more bots, to sharpen my skills, and one day, reach the levels of the top builders here, so NEVER, EVER, give up, if you apply the advice they give you and keep building, it will be only a matter of time before you climb in skill and practice, so hang in there and keep going...

You shouldn't let one tournament affect you so much. Yeti did just as well as Vrykolakas did, and I've been building stock for four years.

I'll just sneak this one in here:

If anyone who entered or watched the Robots In Space tournament, you'll remember my old entry Carbonate. Yeah, wasn't very good well... Here's is the new Carbonate... Which is probably worse...

Looking at it now... It's just ugly.

Get rid of the square extenders and rotate the motors so you can use shinies.

I'm completely rebuilding it, it was certainly an improvement but not a move in the correct direction, haha. Thanks for the feedback.
