Title: TheIronsideProtocol's Shrine to Team Outlaw (Stock Showcase)
Post by: TheIronsideProtocol on October 05, 2017, 02:09:33 PM
Hi! I've been lurking a little bit, and before i built this I decided to look at snapper loading. I almost did this bot legit, but I gave up and just RA2CF'd the parts in after a while because IF I HAD TO DO THE SETUP ONE MORE ***** TIME I WAS GOING TO-

sorry. i can see why not everyone likes this meta.

Here's Rotary Macerator, the finest equipment for macerating furiously you'll ever see!

It kills robots in BBEANS AI fairly well, such as VeXeD and Flaming Whizzer, Trident, PieLauncherTheSecond and Wolverine. I'm especially proud of that last one.

I'm not sure if i'm doing the attachment thing right so let me know if I brought a plague unto GTM's houses, poisoned any water supplies or burned your crops.

Oh, and PRAISE BE LORD TREVOR WRIGHT! SHRAPNEL FOR THE SHRAPNEL GOD! BROKEN SRIMECHS FOR THE BROKEN SRIMECH THRONE!

nice job doing your homework on building. not bad at all for a newbie

yes stock is tedious. no, do not ra2cf the components on. i would honestly recommend the ironforge mod if you want to make competitive robots now

reier no offense but i checked it over, and everything i did should be possible in stock because it was my last resort.

ironforge? Might check it out.

any tips to improve the robot?

It's a good first showcase bot, but you'll need more weapon durability against modern robots. You can save weight be using RADs for drive motors (which also reduces your chassis size) and attaching your weapons to one extender per arm instead of two.

i would honestly recommend the ironforge mod if you want to make competitive robots now
Too bad that he would have fewer chances to compete.

But yea, IF is something for you to consider.

For realism DSL 2.2 is recommended. Download the whole thing here with the added IRL shtuff to help.
The AI is a whole other story though, recommended if you just replace the AI with the normal 2.2 AI.

He's said nothing about realism.

-Swap the drive to normal Z-teks and put shines on. (375 kg)
-Use one extender to hold your weapons like this (https://i.imgur.com/08aZRrT.png) (363 kg)
-Attach the T-extender holding the weapon motors directly to the blue snapper and flip the weapon motors so the axles are facing upwards (361 kg)
-Swap the Nifty for a black (375 kg)
-Have the inner weapon be a mace (387 kg)
-Have the outer weapon be a bear claw (393 kg)

i think i mathed correctly.

i've done my lurking so i roughly understand the metas

don't automatically assume that i want to do irl. i definitely wanna look into it but it shouldn't be the first port and call for new members. you should let them know about all the mods and metas and let them decide themselves.

fbi, i know you meant well but don't shoehorn into IRL.

^^^^^^^^^^^^

always good to see a new up and coming stock builder, we definitely need more of those around

i gave you my advice on discord and it's pretty similar to what chris (090901) said so yeah

Great first bot. Try implementing some of the suggestions you've been given; I would add that you can try saving some more weight by mounting the drive motors somewhere coming off the snapper along with the weapons, though if you opt for RAD drive it doesn't really matter. Also see what you can do with some other bot types, which don't really require as much snapper loading or glitching to be effective.

Edit: Didn't realize this was your first post, welcome to the forums!

Yeah definitely don't do this. Nobody said anything about building IRL style.

it's because people automatically orient newbies torwards IRL that all the other metas are on their death beds, anyway, for a newbie, that's a pretty good bot, can't really add any advice that hasn't been said already, keep it up

rotary macerator 2: weapons-don't-fall-off-if-you-sneeze-on-them edition

[ This attachment cannot be displayed inline in 'Print Page' view ]

it's underweight. this peeves me somewhat.

i was considering adding a mace weapon breaker on the other side attachment point on the plow extender, but i'm not sure how i'd do that without using the evil witchcraft known as ra2cf (which I only used to attach the plow with, something i definitely could have done without it but i didn't fancy killing even more of my brain cells by building in stock)

anyways, next robot isn't gonna be rotary macerator 3. I've done that too many time at this point: i'm either thinking HW rammer (because the beetlebros site is a source of cheap clones inspiration) or a crawler (because i'm seeing all the popups in revolution 2 and going "nah m8").

Stock is definitely tedious, but I appreciate the fact that you're bothering to give it a try. I'd simply suggest to you that you needn't feel pressured by perfecting absolutely everything you do down to the last kg. There are plenty of people that have done that, Sage and InfiniteInertia in particular come to mind. The quest for that ultimate efficiency is likely what led to the total burnout of stock building, where inevitably everything grew to look like more and more of the same as the goal became closer.

If you want to truly enjoy stock for what it was best for, I'd suggest looking into the likes of Clickbeetle, 090901, Bajur, Mr. As, Scrap Daddy, etc. I think you might take to the older school style of building.
