Well, here's my first showcased bot:
Problems:
-It can drive upside down, but isn't very effective that way.
-When the weapon turns on it make the bot spin a little for a second.
Any tips to improve it are appreciated!
-
Not bad for a first bot, though this will run fine off just a Nifty battery, and it's possible to make it invertible using only shiny hub wheels.
-
Better than my first bot. And welcome, enjoy your stay, follow the rules and have fun when it comes to RA2 here.
Be aware you will get critism/tips/praise everytime you post a bot. Also Anyone with a coloured name with give you good advice.
-
Quite nice for a first bot, i see you've been lurking.
Change the pinks to a nifty and try and maybe get an axle/snapper in there to enhance the motor speed if you want.
You can downgrade the wheels to shinies if you need weight.
-
For a first bot, that's actually pretty good. You've got a good choice of motors and weapon components there, and it looks to me as though you might have DSA (Double Strength Aluminium) on it as well, and eFFe glitched the weapons on. Very nice that you know these glitches already. However, there are a couple you can do to improve it.
Pink Batteries are almost universally never used outside of the Antweight and Beetleweight classes. For this, you ideally want a Nifty Battery. It gives you 50% more power than three pinks, but is only two-thirds of the weight. You'd need a slightly taller chassis for that (three "clicks" of the chassis height slider), but it would provide much better longevity for the weight.
Shiny Hubs are almost always the best wheel choice you can have, due to their supreme lightness compared to other wheels. This would give you an extra 12kg to play with, for things like extra weaponry or defenses, which I would say this bot needs. Maybe something like a plow on the front to protect that exposed HPZ motor.
Another way to protect the HPZ - by mounting it inside the chassis - would be to try something called Snapper Loading. It's one of the trickier glitches to get right, but it saves a huge amount of weight from a larger chassis and heavy extender setups. You need something called the SnapperII Burst Motor (It's in the SZ+ AI Components download if you don't have it), and Sage has a video on it in the Tutorials board (RA2: Tips and Tricks). ty4er suggested an Axle Mount, but that causes something called the Axle Glith of Death, or AGOD, where the position and collision mesh of the components is messed up, plus the robot tends to be quite unstable. There's no way around it, unfortunately, so I'd try to avoid that as much as possible.
tl;dr - You've got some good potential. Take on people's advice, lurk around to see what works, learn some more of the glitches, and you'll be building great bots in no time. =)

You just read my mind =P
Welcome, and enjoy your stay. I just wish I lurked a bit before I started.....
Also, be sure to listen to the guys with their name in coloured text, like NFX above, and not me :gawe:. They know what they're doing and will most likely be right even if you don't agree with them at times =D

Then by all means if he shouldn't listen to you, he shouldn't listen to the colored-name users, since you told him not to listen to you.
Anyways, you can save 2 kg by removing a black extender and attaching your HPZ directly to your baseplate anchor.

He means black extender.

Errr... yes i do :P

Curse my bad logic.

Oh, well spotted, Mr. Pedantic. =P
Listening to the members with coloured usernames is a pretty good rule of thumb if you're inexperienced on the boards. There are exceptions to this, however, but you learn these exceptions through time more than anything else. I would say S_M is one of the regular members who offers good advice on most things, and is worth listening to. There are others, as I've said, but experience is the best teacher in those circumstances.

3 pink batteries isn't a lot for 2RADs and a HPZ...
And possibly think about using maces instead of irons.
-
Mr. AS, ty4er already said that. Read the thread first.
-
Maces aren't always better than irons, they're usually used because of their funky mesh which protects the extenders more iirc
But you can always try to see which is better for yourself.
-
I could give my generic LW HS advise of : 1WD ftw!
But that's not appropriate.
Can you EFFE/snapperload?
If so you could mount the weapon on a snapper and EFFE on maces instead of Irons (Mainly a matter of preference between these weapons)
Definitely switch to shiny wheels and a nifty.
-
Here's the second one
(https://gametechmods.com/uploads/images/88153Turbine2splash.png)
-DSA armor
-Now it can't drive upside down
-The razor is there because I had some weight leftover.
-The weapon is kind of unstable
Tell me what you think about it!
-
Attach the HPZ to the other attach point of the snapper (black square) with it raised and rotated 180 degrees. I'd then make the front of the chassis bigger to put a couple of large raised casters on (Invincible armour) instead of the extender+Razor tip.
-
Ok thanks for the tips
I rebuild it later today.
-
For a new guy, hes actually not bad.
Taco, were you lurking GTM before you joined?
-
Well, I was more busy than I thought and that's why this isn't already posted blah blah blah.....
Anyways, version 3!
That's the best I can do with the caster armor for this bot
Maces because I don't need double extenders which saves me weight :D
HPZ is a little more stable and protected (Thanks Squirrel_Monkey)
I changed the direction the chassis is facing too.
And J, just a little.
-
Great!
To improve it you could stack the control board into the Nifty battery, letting you lower the SnapperII and making the bot invertible.
-
If he lowered the SnapperII, though, the HPZ wouldn't attach directly, as it would go through the bottom of the chassis.
Still, VERY nice build there. I'd imagine it's the maces that are causing the uninvertibility, because they have a boxy collision mesh. If you do manage to get the SnapperII lower (you can use a 20cm Round Extender to attach the motor, you have the weight for it. Preferably red. :gawe:), then that should help with invertibility. You could also try widening the front edge of the chassis to give you space for the big 25cm or 20cm casters, they offer a wider range of protection, but for the same weight as the 15cm or 10cm ones.
-
Actually, its the tribar getting in the way of being invertable. And if I use the extender to mount the motor, it will be more in the front and won't be as effective. So I think I'll keep it the way it is. Also, thanks to everybody who helped me make Turbine a lot better!
-
It's been a while since I posted a bot, so I made a LW trinity bot (that needs a better name :P)
(https://gametechmods.com/uploads/images/21165dual core splash.png)
Not much to say about it... It's invertible.
Here's a pic of it exploding:
(https://gametechmods.com/uploads/images/96768dual core action.png)
Any thoughts?
-
Upgrade the wheels, maybe.
-
Nice space management. You could probably get away with just a nifty, though. Then you could use the extra weight to put 2 irons on each side instead of just 1.
-
Yeah more irons if possible.
-
Upgrade the wheels, maybe.
Why? It looks invertible to me
-

I dunno.
Remember that all wheels have the same grip value in stock, Nate.
-
Looks pretty nicely built, in my view. You can power this with a Nifty, though. Does it have DSA or Plastic?

Shinies have a bit less actually but it shouldn't matter at the LW level

I thought I forgot something. It has DSA.

It's resistance that's lower, all wheels have the same grip of 1 IIRC. Shines have .12 resistance compared to the standard .2 of all wheels with the exception of minis (which have the lowest). From what I've read, resistance is related to the wheels sliding or "drifting"
-
I thought rubbers drift a bit...
Also, IMO all this needs is a nifty so you can use the weight to add MOAR RAZORS
Or spikes :gawe:
-
as everyone said, use a nifty.
Also pretty sure you can end up with more weapons than this.
Maybe use plastic as well, so you can at least use a total of 4 weapons (razors, irons, maces) on it. Trinity bots will always be glass cannons anyway, so i do believe plastic is fine.
-
ZOOM BLUR EFFECT MAKES IT MORE POWERFUL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1!!!11
(https://gametechmods.com/uploads/images/80634Nebula.png)
Plastic armor for weight 'n stuff.
Grannies because shines don't touch the ground :C
I used iron spikes so the weapons wouldn't fall off in 5 seconds.
Better name(?) Probably been taken though.
Added an ok skin.
-
Don't segment the 20cms for the drive and use 40cms instead so you can properly rotate the motors for Shinies. Then you can add moar weaponz.
-
Try and stack the CB into the nifty, lower the chassis accordingly and I believe you'll be able to have shinies on there.

Where the heck have you been?

IRL problems.
I thought he'd be using grannies for invertibility anyway?

Apparently it's because shinies didn't touch the ground.

You could eFFe another pair of 20cm extenders onto the pistons to make the irons both point in the same direction. It's kinda tricky, so I'll walk you through it.
First, fire the pistons, then press the Pause/Break button (You can find it on your keyboard, mines is next to Print Screen). The game will freeze, but you can still move around in it. Switch tabs and back again, so you can attach things. Go to the Components tab, select a 20cm extender, and hover it over the first 20cm, like you would for regular eFFe glitching, but don't click to attach it. Press the Pause button again to unpause the game, and the pistons should retract to their original positions, with the 20cm extender you want to add floating in space. Click to "attach" it, and you should be able to attach both Iron Spikes on the ends of the extenders, without the need to rotate them.
-
Yes, it's invertible.
@NFX So that's how you effe a piston :gawe: Thanks. I'll try it.
Edit: How do I stack a control board in a nifty? I tried, but it just won't work.
-
I can't finish the trinity bot (see "Edit:" of last post"), but I made the weird vs.
I've never made a bot that needs this much glitching
The srimech kind of works.
I know I need to change the direction of the razors, but I'm feeling lazy.
Its pretty slow, but it doesn't flip over from turning
The z-teks are mounted on 20cm extenders attached to the snappers.
Supports are 40cm
-
Hax-Mode, right?
-
J, I don't think he used Hax-mode. Just some simple effe glitching.
-
Taco, It's a Drum. Looks nice though.
-
No Hax-Mode, just some excellent Axle Loading. I would have the drum spinning the other way, though, it's going to kick itself up in the air at the moment when it hits an opponent. Does it have any AGOD at all? (Press F12 to see the collision mesh, a green wireframe version of the bot, if it doesn't line up with the components, then you have AGOD.)
Stacking, unfortunately, is simply a case of trial and error. You've just got to zoom in and try every conceivable point in space until you get one that works. For me, it's usually one click below maximum height, and just hovering around there until it works. You sometimes have to rotate the camera to get it to work, though, but just keep at it, and it will eventually work. Sorry about that. =)
-
@NFX No AGOD! yay!
I fixed the razors.
@Jonzu Thanks.
And no hax-mode.
-
Extreme double post action of returning to forms!
mediocre rammer
(https://gametechmods.com/uploads/images/43574bently.png)
I don't care what you think about the name. (but suggestions would be nice)
-
It looks pretty good to me. You could shrink up the chassis a little more and get the Blackvolt closer to the front. I'd also put the razors by the wheels up to the front to help with damaging. It's not very likely that the opponents are going to get to your wheels. With the weight saved by chassis tightening and removing whatever's holding the rear irons on, you could swap the razors for irons as well.
-
It's not very likely that the opponents are going to get to your wheels.
Have you fought an HS (or worse, an SnS) with a rammer in stock? Your wheels are sometimes the first components to come off if they're not protected.
The bot looks cool; neat arrangement of spikes there. If possible, I would use maces for wheel guards though, because they cover a greater area. I would also downgrade to a Nifty or even two small battery packs and then add more weapons. 16 iron spikes used to be enough to beat most HS, but now the standard for HS is 18 spikes, so you want to at least tie that.
-
So yeah long time since a showcase
(https://gametechmods.com/uploads/images/21513snapping turtle.png)
lw popup. 6 razors on there, and the wedge is used for self-righting because it works better. This is the first time I've actually stacked anything in a battery.
It's ok. I probably spent more time on the skin than the actual components.
-
It's 10kg underweight, you could probably get another razor on there or something.
Other than that it looks pretty good.
-
Well I would but when it has a smart zone it ads 2kg and then I don't have enough weight for anything
-
Make it wider so HS don't knock it away with the extra weight
-
It's 10kg underweight, you could probably get another razor on there or something.
It already has 6 razors, 7 might be overkill and might make the DDT fire a little slow.
-
DDT is already going to be slow since he only has a nifty. You would be better off with a snapper and like 3 razors and stronger drive.
-
Well I would but when it has a smart zone it ads 2kg and then I don't have enough weight for anything
Smart zone weight usually doesn't count toward the actual weight of the robot in most AI tournaments.
-

That's a relief. Thanks.
Here's version 2 variants:
B wins against A almost every time, plus B's extenders are more protected. Both have 6 razors total.
A and B beat the original, btw.
-
weapon is somewhat overkill for a LW, i think.
-
Like I said earlier, you best bet is just one snapper/one ddt with 2 to 3 razors, 1 nifty won't power 2 snapper for long at all. If you are going to make a small popup, you are going to have to make it faster too so HS don't shred it alive.
-
So I fixed the popup but it's just like every other one so it's not worth posting
(https://gametechmods.com/uploads/images/60004lefthook.png)
DSA, 4 razors and 2 irons, 140cm square extenders for stabilizers, and one caster protecting the underside.
-
ooooo I like it but I feel like it may not have that much range.
-
ooooo I like it but I feel like it may not have that much range.
yeah, it's the only visible issue with the design and it honestly looks like a crippling one
maaay be more worth it if you replace these razors by irons so the bot starts to wobble later and change it to a HPZ. It'll make the bot less original though, so your choice.
-
Looks good but reach is an issue.
-
I was going to enter KOS's tournament, but I didn't have enough time to finish two other bots because of marching band camp. Here's the one I did build though
(https://gametechmods.com/uploads/images/6769spicy_mama.png)
Poker/wammer hybrid. Designed to kill spinners, and it works too. Wedge is ok, 6 razors of the piston, and doesn't do so good if it gets flipped over.
I want to enter it into a tournament to see how it does, even though it probably won't win. I'm just waiting for a stock mw one.
-
Interesting, but looks very fragile.
-
Bear Claws look strangely angled.
-
Looks pretty sweet, but when flipped by a popup, no chance
I want to enter it into a tournament to see how it does, even though it probably won't win. I'm just waiting for a stock mw one.
You could enter it into the next stock T.L.O.S
-
I like it, but I feel like irons would work better for the wammer/trapper part since more HP.
Looks pretty sweet, but when flipped by a popup, no chance
Uh...if a popup gets under you, being flipped is one of the last things you have to worry about.
-

I know, that was just me being Dispraxic :rage :rage
-
The bear claws aren't doing anything that way, but otherwise it looks cool. Strangely DSL-ish.
-
intredasting
-
I like the concept but I feel it could be better executed.
-
wait why is everyone using square extenders? i thought they were a big no no
-
wait why is everyone using square extenders? i thought they were a big no no
The 140cm ones weigh 5kg.....I thought this was common knowledge by now :dumb)
-
i havent followed stock for years

first showcased HW whoopee.
2 stacked black batteries.
24 irons
Doesn't self right too well
Probably a clone of something but it's a start.
Skin coming soon
