I'd like to see what you have to offer in terms of bot building.
Title: Re: SuperchuFrostbites' showcase
Post by: NFX on March 19, 2012, 03:16:01 PM
Okay, it's a good starting point. It would help if we had a shot of the insides, and knew what the armour was. It also helps if you crop the pictures so it's just the bot (everyone knows what the Bot Lab looks like), and saved it as preferably a .PNG file, as the bitmap format the gave saves screenshots as takes a lot of memory.

Also, some criticism can be harsher than others, you need to be able to distinguish between harsh criticism and trolling/flaming. And trolling/flaming back is a VERY bad idea. Especially if you're new. People's first impressions of you stick with you for as long as you're here, and if you've given a bad first impression, people are less likely to take you seriously in the future.

I don't understand why you use Stock parts in DSL...
Title: Re: SuperchuFrostbites' showcase

Can we have a shot of the insides?
Title: Re: SuperchuFrostbites' showcase

that is a png. and ill get the guts right now.

Is there a view inside?

By the way, what Jonzy there means is that utilising Stock parts in DSL (IE. The bits that came with the original game) is generally frowned upon, unless it's certain wheels or weapons. I do see some potential, though.

Quick tips from me. People will fill holes.

It needs to be around 800kg to use weight to it's advantage
To put images up, you can upload them to the uploader on the front page then just post the link in img tags.
Try to crop images - we've all seen the botlab.
We could do with seeing insides to know where the weight is going, and what components you're using.
Use DSA (Double Strength Aluminium) if you aren't already - it's very strong. You get it by not clicking the armor tab at all after making a chassis.
It looks quite tall, and those aren't great wheels - try lowering it to around 5 pixels from minimum and putting some shiny hub wheels (the best) on High Power Z-teks.
Finally, DO NOT report posts unless it's a REALLY SERIOUS matter (not flaming).. ACAMS gets tetchy :3

Okay I got beat to a lot of these, sorry XD

Post insides, and avoid thumbnails.

I've seen much worse for a newbie, but it is nothing like amazing.

Also, build to weight limit, don't use stock parts in a DSL game, and don't start a showcase with drama bait such as this :

[...] don't troll me, don't flame me [...]
(btw: i troll/flame back, and/or report)

the reason for the slims was to make the bot invertable, and eliminate the need for a SRIMEC
and this was made before i obtained dsl and was thereby grandfathered into the game.

where to begin... you will likely need a way to pin your opponent to a wall, snowplows are recommended, see rabid pit bull (search for it on the wiki or take a look at it in starcore ai v3 or later) you will also need wedges if you dont want to get your ass handed to you by pop-ups
edit: also too much batteries... you only need 1 black battery for this
Title: Re: SuperchuFrostbites' showcase
Post by: Naryar on March 19, 2012, 03:30:44 PM
You can also make the chassis slimmer and use lighter wheels, you know ? You only need a chassis the height of a Z-tek (well slightly more) for this.

Yes but... there is no need for higher level advice at this point, he needs to learn the bases of good building first.

EDIT : you're using good batteries and good motors, now make the chassis less tall and well fitting around the components. Of course you need to eyeball it before you add the components to minimize empty space, but that's a necessary part of building.

It's a Stock Showcase, guys. It's just the DSL Bot Lab for whatever reason.

And it would still be invertible with Shiny Hubs, which are considerably lighter than the Slim Wheels. That'll give you the weight to add either some more weapons/spinners, or some extra defenses, or wedges and so forth.

No no no. Not on a FS like that. Shinies are smaller than discs, and the discs will therefore touch the ground, reducing the weapon's power.

Use slipperbottoms.

Ah, I see. Chassis needs to be lowered, then. If you look at the slider you select the height with, and set it to five "clicks" high, that'll allow you to fit an HP Z-Tek into the chassis. Any lower, and it won't fit.

super collider is a full body hammer combined with a face spinner, it is designed for hit and run attacks, focusing on wheels and extenders.

yes, you have the disks spinning, and you ram into the other bot at full throttle, like take down or double edge.
also, it's there on page one

As i have noticed you like your bots to be able to move either way up. Which is fine and i nothing against that. Just, for me, it would be awesome if the bot was smaller in size BUT had the SAME weaponry. Just my take on things. hope this helps :)

You've easily got the weight for two more irons on the spinner. More weaponry = More damage caused.

Wheels on axle mounts are pretty much a waste of weight. Get rid of them, and use the weight to get some more powerful drive motors. That should be a good place to start.

I'm gonna treat you like you've been here a few months and just give you the facts.

No need for the axle wheels with the mini's on
Needs a HP-Ztek
Horrible chassis setup

It's your choice what you do here; Either A: Have 1 spinner, and add a wedge, or have two spinners. Whatever you choose to do, do it well.

Ok... do you want the full story of my name?... OK here we go...
Chapter 1... Superchu
Who here has played super smash bros. melee with a friend with both of you doing the voices of your characters? my friend used pikachu... and acted like it was a super hero. super and pikachu or Superchu.
Chapter 2... Frostbite
so the name in Ch1 had become a running joke between me and a friend, and had become my username for anything that required one. until one day I made an account for a game called secondlife which allows you to type in a first name for your character and then pick from a dropdown list of random words for your last name the word frostbite just happened to be on there and I just happened to think Superchu Frostbite sounded cool. no conspiracy, no hidden relations I'm just a normal person who has an abnormal internet name. Now if you don't like it, well that's too bad, you'll just have to deal with it.
Chapter 3...
I find it very funny that no one is noticing the obvious signs that this is LRA2/Avalanche/FROST101ification/one of Avalanche's dipsh** friends.

Don't edit bots into the first post. Just post them in the thread as replies. So when the thread gets to 30 pages we won't have to jump between page 1 and 30 and it'll look a lot neater. And you won't accidentally delete bots out of the first post rendering pages of the thread useless.

Before you start, and to stop the fire from taking off... I will have NO flaming in there !

This is a showcase, a place for learning, sharing ideas and showing bots, NOT a battlefield for egos.

Having a different opinion about RA2 and debating it here is fine as long as it's relevant, and even if it's a heated debate it is welcomed because it can give new insight. However, if you really want an ego clash, go and do it in Playground (or challenge board), NOT HERE. Flame wars do NOT belong in there.

Also HA, I wouldn't go and bully some newbie in the showcases just because you can, or because your ego has been bruised. You have attacked him unfairly, and you accept that it was unfair, how do you expect him to react ? Cower in a corner, cry and call his momma ? And then why do you blame him for retaliating to that unwarranted attack of yours ?

You have clearly straightened up and adopted a better stance since your muting and my warning, and that I am glad of. However, I am still watching you, and you threatening pointlessly some newbie will not be tolerated.

This also goes for you, Superchu. Flaming back someone who has flamed you will not be tolerated, because it adds to spam in the showcase and generally prompts some people to act thoughtlessly.

If you have a trouble maker in your showcase, just remove his posts and/or call me via PM. This goes for all of you by the way.
