Post by: SKBT on July 19, 2010, 02:17:19 PM

Nice. There really is nothing to do with this bot IMO, maybe someone a bit better at Stock could help out.

You're wasting more weight in snappers than you would by just enlarging the chassis. Plus, the Z-Teks' angle now makes it slide out of control every once in a while. You should stack the blacks too.

I started out with the bot above and I rebuilt and rebuilt. Now it looks like a R4 clone.

3 stacked blacks
too many razors to count
4 hp-zteks

Add a razor, and make sure every Razor faces the in the same direction so they all hit at the same time.

Keep the razors a bit closer to the middle, and add some frontal protection. Also, 2 Blacks is a bit much, 2 would be enough, I think.

No. 4 DDT's and 4 HP Z-Teks needs WAY more than 2. 3 Would be fine tbh.

yeah 3 is fine... 4 would perhaps be ideal but not essential
Title: Re: SKBT's Stock Showcase
Post by: Sage on July 21, 2010, 10:37:52 AM
DDTs drain 500 each, HPZteks 100 each, Black batts give out 800 each, so 3x800 = 2400 = (500x4) + (100x4)

3 blacks is perfect for max power.
Title: Re: SKBT's Stock Showcase
Post by: JoeBlo on July 21, 2010, 10:39:21 AM
but you can overpower bursts for more power in the swing
Title: Re: SKBT's Stock Showcase
Post by: Sage on July 21, 2010, 10:45:16 AM
I don't think so... max power is max power.
Title: Re: SKBT's Stock Showcase
Post by: NFX on July 21, 2010, 11:04:06 AM
But more battery power means you can keep attacking with the same strength for the whole match instead of running out towards the end and getting lethargic with the pops. It's annoying when you're ahead on points with 30 seconds to go, then you get flipped over, realise you can't right yourself because you've sapped all the battery power, and end up immobilised. That's why Valid Query 2 had so much power.

I have tested over powering many times.. while there is a limit at some point you can reach more power then using just the minimum

2 blacks
6 razors EF'd on to the DDT's
DSA

I don't know what to do with the remaining weight and I'm not sure how I got the blacks like that and intersecting the Z-teks.

Quite good. Try attaching your extenders in a sort of L shape, so you can get two razors on a 2kg extender, rather than just one with your current setup.
Title: Re: SKBT's Stock Showcase
Post by: Stagfish on July 25, 2010, 01:09:55 PM
I suggest turning the razors around so the flat side hits the opponent, it will do more damage.
Title: Re: SKBT's Stock Showcase
Post by: NFX on July 25, 2010, 01:15:54 PM
Razors work better if you hit the opponent dead straight, with the Y shape of the razors, it would work if you hit them perpendicular like this:

YYYYYY
_____

I'm not sure how it works, though, might be something to do with the cosine of the angle it makes with the opponent.

That is disputable.
Title: Re: SKBT's Stock Showcase
Post by: Trovaner on July 25, 2010, 01:31:44 PM
Using one of the pointed sides rather than a flat side is better IMO. The razor's collision mesh sticks out further which potentially means that it is harder to hit what it is attached to (usually 100 HP extender). The text file specifies that it doesn't have normals so all sides should deal the same amount of damage regardless of how much contact is made (by that one razor).

9 irons
1 ramplate
2 HPZ's
1 nifty
DSA

Tried to make a LW SNS ballanced by weapon and drive on oposite sides and off one base anchor. It works decently untill its battery dies. :P

Interesting.... How does it do in battle?
Title: Re: SKBT's Stock Showcase
Post by: SKBT on August 15, 2010, 03:51:38 PM
It's surprisingly stable and outweapons some HS's. It works the best against slow popups and HS's because anything that is fast enough to stop its spinning will win.

Looks good. Now we have two people that still build very interesting lightweight designs. :)

Ramplate is useless. Replace with razors or something.

I agree. Use a pattern kind of like T-Road, with some spikes tilted up and some down. Switch to shinies, and also remove that random extender (unless it has an unforseen purpose). If you need extra extenders for weapons, move the weapon extender to be the first one coming off of the baseplate connector to get another extender. I would also recommend maces for better HS beating.

From one dumb idea to another!

HS's love to eat the motors and popups tend to knock it over.

Big chasis is because I was trying ideas and wanted a lot of space to move things around and I haven't built a refined version of it yet.
Title: Re: SKBT's Stock Showcase
Post by: Pwnator on August 18, 2010, 10:41:38 PM
That ain't bad. Mome Rath uses a similar setup. :D

The only 'dumb' thing you did was the way you bursted your motors. You wouldn't want your weapons to wobble everytime you turn or hit something. Instead of having your snapper's arm oriented sideways, have it face the front so the hidden AP faces the side. That's where you should attach your weapon motors to minimize wobbling. :D

Post by: Clickbeetle on August 21, 2010, 07:28:48 PM
See Mome Rath... the best way to do that design is with wheels in the back, and something like plows in the front, or ramming spikes if you want it to last against HS's.  If it's too tippy you can either give it smaller-diameter weapons and lower it, or make it longer.

I like the recipe splash.  I thought of my previous BOTM entry Recipe for Disaster when I saw that.

Is the plow really doing much good, or would it be better with more razors?  Or perhaps upgrade to maces.  I found that on BWAHTAICU, the hammer extenders often broke off when I used 4 razors.  But with 2 maces and 1 razor, it very rarely breaks.

4 HPZ drive
2 stacked blacks

I'm pretty sure Pwn made a 3WD MW rammer in stock a while back, but I don't remember him mentioning if it drove straight.

Anyway, I really don't like the weapon setup.  If possible I would lower the baseplate anchor and stagger the weapon extenders so that some are pointing straight while others are angled slightly upwards.

It was pretty much just a showcase of my awesome staxx0rz, but that's about it. Never bothered to AI it though, so I don't know if it can actually turn like it was supposed to.

Popups have a big chance of killing that methinks.

Good idea for a heavier bot...just don't really like it as a LW. Don't feel like it would handle LW juggernauts very well.

Oh, well played clickbeetle.

But NFX technically saw a chassis so...

Anyways it does look like a SnS. Bet there's one nifty, an even number of baseplate anchors and one CB inside.
