Title: Rythoka's Stock Showcase
Post by: Rythoka on June 26, 2011, 05:29:10 PM
I don't really have much to show right now(having only but toyed around with the game for the last couple of weeks), but he's my current favorite bot. It's a really simple popup with a bunch of empty space from before I understood how batteries worked.

EDIT: Bot weighs 495.8, with DSA. Also, I rotated the Razors so they all would impact. Result == much better bot. Unfortunately, it still doesn't stand up to the Starcore v1 pack at all.

Hey man, not bad!
One thing that's important is to always put in the weight and armour. I'm liking the skin though. It's needs to be less tall and it shouldn't be so extender heavy. It also needs moar razors.

Not bad for a first bot dude
Follow what Enigma said about the weight and armour. Also a good number of MW (Providing it is) popups are built sort of like this nowadays

I like it.  You might want to rotate the razors so that it hits with both sides.

The problem with shortening the chassis would be that the DDTs in the front wouldn't fit anymore. I could compensate by making the top surface  larger, but that would shorten the length of the wedge, which I don't think would be a particularly great idea.

You see, the way I have the bot set up I need the extra space for all 4 motors. I use it not only to prop bots on top and gut-rip them, but also to ram at high speeds and flip bots if need be (I actually HAVE to do this to defeat one of my friends VS bots. Come around, hit from the side. It's tough, though, because he can invert it with his weapons.)

It would be a good idea, since RA2 basically farts at physics, but don't overdo it. If you take a look at some Middleweight Popups, their wedges are actually very steep, but it's the Small Wedge component that actually gets under the opponent.

What do you mean by that?

Try to put the HP Z-teks in a sideways line. Put the axles as close to the next motor as possible; you don't need room for wheels as long as you use rubber wheels. (which also give you a better wedge) This'll make the bot wider, which makes it easier to get other bots up the wedge.

The chassis is quite tall as well - the minimum height needed for that bot is 5 pixels up from the lowest possible one.

Oh, I think I see what you mean. I am only hitting with 2 razors at a time, aren't I?

I've heard a lot about people custom fitting their chassis to their parts. Is there an actually method to this, or is it just lots of trial and error?

It's trial and error, really. After a while of doing it, you get to be able to make an accurate guess as to how many pixels you need to drop/gain

Trial and error. Or BFE (Bot File Editing) which is very illegal indeed, at least when it comes to tournaments. If you want to do that, though, then you'll need to turn off the "Snap to grid" bix in the Chassis tab.

All modesty aside I agree because it helped me build my first decent popup :D
