Title: RammingSpeed's Showcase-age (stock)

Fortune.
Armour: DSA

Not too happy with this. The wedges work and the weaponry is effective, but it's quite the glass cannon. Good spinners can make short work of it.

angle connectors are fairly useless- try having weapon setups with only 20 cms. get rid of the pink batteries and change your drive to hpzteks. This will help against spinners. A little frontal armor never hurts, either. All in all though, pretty decent for a first bot!

front armor will help against "good spinners"

Popups are usually glass cannons in sub-HW classes, but HPZ drive helps immensely. Oh, and angle connectors are terrible so never use them.

Any better?
I kept the pinks, I'm not sure if it could run properly without them.

Try not to use 40cm extenders, they have the same HP as the 20cm ones.

also are you on the Robot Wars Wiki? I remember someone from there. IIRC you also did a couple of edits on my Wild Robots Wiki.

is that one or two blacks

Badnik, he didnt use 40cms on the weapons and the wedges dont matter because they're inside the chassis.

Much better. If you don't already know how, you should learn how to use the eFFe glitch, it will make your extender work onyour weapons much cleaner. Sage has a few tutorials on useful glitches in this thread:

Mr. Awsumsauce: There's only 1 black.
Badnik: Yep.

Pretty good for a first bot, I'll agree. What I might do is try to get the chassis height lower, you need it five "clicks" tall, on the slider where you set the height, for an HPZ to fit. You need a steady hand and a good eye to get it right. That should save you quite a bit of weight, which you could use on frontal defense such as ramplates or casters. You can raise casters to have them sticking out of the front corners, and because they're attached to the baseplate, they're invincible. Take a look at PitA 8 on the RA2Wiki for a good example of Caster Armour, though I don't think you need as much as PitA 8 has.

Tough Meat

Armour: Steel (a mistake)

This one... doesn't perform too well. For some reason it seems to do better against popups. Maybe cause I'm using Starcore v3.
Other spinners often take off its weapons before it has a chance to finish them off.

cuz you only have 3 razors. 3 Razors ain't a lot even on a LW.

Rearrange it so you can get a black in there.

a nifty is ok for this

I can't put DSA on it now, I already clicked the armour tab by mistake.

reduce empty space and use dsa

Then you're going to have to rebuild it xD
Title: Re: RammingSpeed's Showcase-age (stock)

yep. Pretty damn sure a good stock builder spends at least 30% of the time spent building on rebuilding the chassis a Nth time.

I rebuilt the bot, giving me DSA and I doubled the amount of razors.

Sadly, now whenever it hits something or turns left, it flips itself and goes insane.

And don't even get me started on what happens when the razors break off!  :vista:

Chassis can be a lot thinner.
Also, you might want to put the Z-Tek behind the plow, just for added protection.

I replaced the Z-tek for a Redbird to take off a bit of weight and stuck out the plow a bit further.
It's a bit stabler now, but still flips itself on occasion, and the spinner is now too slow.

Might move away from this one soon.

DOUBLE POST

I'm sorry, a little off-topic, could anyone tell me how to AI in a way that doesn't involve having to replace the normal enemy bots?
Title: Re: RammingSpeed's Showcase-age (stock)
Post by: martymidget on February 24, 2012, 05:47:11 PM
You need to go into the AI folder, and find Teams.txt. Then you copy the bit of code for one team (e.g Red Zone), and paste it at the bottom. You can then edit the team number, amount of bots in a team etc. Then, just create a corresponding folder, put bots in it, start a new bindings paragraph and you should be good to go. Any problems, give me a shout :D

isn`t there a way to add DSA to the armor otpions?
Title: Re: RammingSpeed's Showcase-age (stock)
Post by: RammingSpeed on February 25, 2012, 02:45:07 PM
I added an extra team in both Bindings.py and teams.txt. I also used Velociraptor's coding on it (it's for my Wedgehog replica).
There aren't any typos, I checked.

To add a team follow this tutorial (https://gametechmods.com/forums/index.php/topic,3942.msg148856.html#msg148856).

To add a new AI bot, just follow the AI chart in philetbabe's signiture (https://gametechmods.com/forums/index.php?action=profile;u=2015). I would have also recommended RFSHQ's AIing tutorial but I think it went down with his site.

I think it would be possible to make DSA an option in the armor selection screen (while still remaining compatible with vanilla RA2) but it wouldn't have the same reflective properties.

Post by: RammingSpeed on February 26, 2012, 08:35:45 AM
Well, the game works, but my Wedgehog replica only turns and fires its weapon when I come close. It doesn't move forwards or backwards at all. Where could I have gone wrong? I've fiddled around with bindings, to no avail. Is there something specific that I should type in?
Title: Re: RammingSpeed's Showcase-age (stock)
Post by: martymidget on February 26, 2012, 08:39:13 AM
For the wiring for forwards and backwards, you need to name the analogue control "Forward". If it isn't that, I'm confused :L

Title: Re: RammingSpeed's Showcase-age (stock)

Indeed you will. Though I think you can do that just by BFE, but I wouldn't risk it until you know what you're doing.

Cabra

Armour: Plastic
Weight: 393.3 (MW)

Only just built this one, so it's untested and I'm not sure how good those wedges are.

the wedges are probably going to be bad btw :P

Also you can get rid of 1 or 2 extenders each side to lower the motor and shrink the disk

It looks Quite good, for a Double VS MW... Though I would take the pink battery off, and make wedges longer.

Post by: Fracture on March 31, 2012, 11:49:39 AM
The wedges are not going to be very good. If you can't live with that, use baseplate anchors to attach the weapon motors, and you'll have better wedges to beat at least some popups and other wedged bots.

You do need only one black. To save weight, you can lower the chassis so the tallest thing that fits is the black without the CB on top, and trim the empty space after removing the purple.

Fauxhawk

Armour: DSA
Second attempt at a Stock MW Popup.

It's bit slow, this one. Also, can someone tell me if it's underpowered or not? I'm not so sure with Stock batts.
As always, untested and it's rather generic, I know. :(

HPZ's would be better here, and you do have the weight for it. That'll significantly improve your speed.
Title: Re: RammingSpeed's Showcase-age (stock)
Post by: RammingSpeed on April 09, 2012, 03:16:46 PM
Believe me, I tried to fit HPs in there. But with the chassis size and the way the components are set up, I couldn't.
Title: Re: RammingSpeed's Showcase-age (stock)
Post by: NFX on April 09, 2012, 03:18:37 PM
They're the same size as regular Z-Teks, only a bit longer. If you move the SnapperII's forward a little, that would give you the space. If you need to, resize the chassis to accommodate, sometimes that's the only way to get it right.

Icepicks seem to be a bit pointless to me, I understand they're there to protect the extenders. I would rather spend the weight on frontal protection, perhaps a pair of casters. They're both lighter, and invincible.

most popups need 2 blacks

1 black = 80 amps
1 nifty = 40 amps
1 pink = 10 amps

any spin motor = 10 amps
ddt = 50 amps
snapper2 (the green one (i think)) = 30 amps
snapper II (the blue one (i think)) = 40 amps [DO NOT USE THIS AS A WEAPON MOTOR]
servo = 0 amps

2 ddts = 100 amps
2 zteks = 20 amps
100 + 20 = 120 = 2 blacks

Should ideally have two. If you need to, retract the chassis at the front, and make the wedge steeper. Or three Nifties, if you can get it to work. :gawe:
Title: Re: RammingSpeed's Showcase-age (stock)
Post by: Fracture on April 09, 2012, 04:01:45 PM
Shorter chassis. Look for 5 clicks high. Longer wedges (just by 20 or 40 cm) would also be nice.

I would rather spend the weight on frontal protection, perhaps a pair of casters. They're both lighter, and invincible.
Casters could also be positioned so they stick out the sides of the chassis and go through the wedge extenders, to act as protection that covers a smaller area, but is invincible and 4 kg lighter.

ian has probably built something similar. He's the foremost Stock AW builder at the moment, I'd say. It's a good effort to get everything in there, though. I hope it's not too havoky. And usually one pink is enough for AW's, largely due to the weight constraints.

Plastic or DSA? you should be able to get DSA on it by stacking the pink on the control board between the rads or maybe even replace the razors with irons/maces.

its a worse version of mini rpb.........

no matter how much advice people throw at you its most likely going to become a clone of this

so the first step in making it any good is to reduce the chassis, and i mean some HARDCOAR chassis reducing

I don't think cloning is a bad thing to start of with, the new mini RPB is one of my best antweights so starting there would mean that he could build some better AW's sooner.

I'm yet to make a really good wammer and I know they can be done, they need to pinks though so it's a bit harder to make them. The best one I have made has an emergency wedge, 2 pinks and 1 razor tip.
