Welcome Mousey

Could do with a crop, but I'm not going to be orrible about the bot because, as you said, it's your first ever bot.

There's a lot of empty space and it needs more weapons, also, its a bit underweight.]

Enjoy your stay on GTM!

Less empty space, use a nifty, and if you're going to make it a poker, make a row of 3-4 razor tips. Also: use Shiny Hub Caps.
also: hi

Hmm. Well, for a first time bot, it's ok. What armour do you have on there, and try to get a nifty in there. After that, make your chassis smaller and then we'll take it from there.

Anyway, welcome.

Well, it's better than my first Stock bot was.

Welcome to GTM, by the way.

Also: make it invertible if  it already isn't. (i.e., make it to where it can still drive whilst flipped upside down.
And with the wep choice: They really suck in stock. (which is what you are using) They do less damage than one iron.
Use double strength aluminum as well. (which is avoiding the armor tab in its entirety)

Wait, you know about DSA already?  :claping

Well, kind of unexpected, kind of not, but keep that armour. Strongest in the game, if you didn't know already. Other than the advice I've given you, I'll tell you do not use a Sledgehammer. Only use Razors, Irons and Maces on a poker such as that one, with ice picks, spike strips and clubs sometimes coming in use.

As a first bot, it's not terribly bad. Probably the simplest thing you could improve is the wheels. On a LW, Shinies are almost exclusively the wheels of choice due to their low weight compared to other wheels. You save at least 10 kg over any other wheel, which could be used on weaponry or external armour. Good to see you've picked up on the DSA glitch by avoiding the armour tab, that's something a lot of newbies miss. Sledgehammers are pretty much used exclusively on VS's to aid in punting their opponents, so you'd want something like razors, irons or maces on the piston. You can use extenders to get more than one weapon on the piston as well.

-Use RADs instead.
-Use irons, with round extender work.
-Shrink chassis.
-Don't use pinks, use Niftys.
-Use DSA.
-Learn the stacking glitch (where 2 components same space).
-Build up to the weight limit.

-Use RADs instead. Not necessary.
-Use irons, with round extender work. It's a poker. Plus you can use moar razors
-Shrink chassis.
-Don't use pinks, use Niftys.
-Use DSA.
-Learn the stacking glitch (where 2 components same space). Again, not necessary.

He does use DSA already. And shrinking the chassis is one of the trickier aspects of robot building for a newcomer, I think if we give him the correct tools to work with first, then chassis space management is something he can work on a bit later. For now, he can try and figure out what components are effective and what ones aren't, in terms of weight, HP and damage.

Welcome to forums anyways.
And read this too: https://gametechmods.com/forums/index.php/topic,5019.0.html (https://gametechmods.com/forums/index.php/topic,5019.0.html)
Oh, and you have mod powers over your own showcase, so you can remove stupid posts.

Useless posts removed. BP and FOTEP, you didn't said anything constructive. Jonzu, BP is not talking to you.

Anyways, I like the fact that everyone seems to be considering this a better than average bot for an average newbie... though it is really not.

It is not particularly bad, but it needs quite a lot of improvement in order to be good.

-Use shiny hubs, as said before. Lighter than all the other wheels for the same stats.
-Z-teks are better than redbirds.
-Sledgehammers are bad weapons in stock. Try iron spikes on racks made of extenders, or razor tips.
-One Nifty battery is better than 2 small battery packs for the same weight.
-Make your bot symmetrical, it will drive better.

Everybody just calm down, alright? Stop snapping at each other's throats. Let's try and keep the showcase clean, and help Mousey along with his building, okay? We've given him some useful advice, now let's wait and see what he comes up with next.

I think you can tell those who give good advice as they explain why you should change things, rather than just rattling off a list.

I am getting SICK of deleting pointless posts and flaming in this thread. Next time someone posts an idiotic comment on here, he will come to regret it quickly.

As you can see mousey, there are some people that think they can give advice when they clearly shouldn't, and some people that just can't shut up. I know this post is off-topic, but it is necessary for saving your thread from a flame war.

One word of advice - don't be an ass like I was when I joined.
Repercussions will follow, and it will be hard to get rid of them. (took me about 6 months to get a positive rep)

What ? You have the feeling he will act like a cocky, arrogant little child ? As I have seen for now, he seems peaceful and ready to compromise.

@Nar, stop posting a commentary of your admin rights and post something constructive, he's new and he doesn't want you posting crap.

You are obviously not understanding the situation. I am brandishing my mod rights to intimidate the n00bs/idiots here so they stop making crap posts.

And I certainly have posted something constructive. Look at my first post in the thread.

But let's stop arguing now.

Would you have said the same thing if he posted a crawler as his first bot?
Title: Re: Mousey's showcase
Post by: NFX on May 07, 2011, 06:45:27 PM
Crawlers are thinking outside the box in a sense, in that they don't use anything from the Wheels tab. I'd be surprised if a newbie posted a crawler as his first showcased bot, I think I'd treat it as any other first bot, give advice on what can be improved, explain what they've got right at the moment, and where to go next.

No need... there's a wikipage for this :

https://gametechmods.com/RA2wiki/index.php?title=Jargon (https://gametechmods.com/RA2wiki/index.php?title=Jargon)

Read that, Mousey. Might help you with some of the terms we use.

Would you have said the same thing if he posted a crawler as his first bot?

He is new and doesn't seems like a lurker, therefore posting a crawler as first bot (as unlikely as it seems) would probably not be for annoying people. Well not on purpose.

I just happen to dislike crawlers, I wouldn't start to dislike a newbie because he started his showcase with a crawler (unless he builds only crawlers and enter them into tournaments...).

Now you are driving me off-topic :P
