Title: MAN MANU's showcase!!!!
Post by: man manu on January 01, 2009, 12:44:03 PM
Well, I decided to start to have a go at building my tag team tourney entry and this is my first attemt. Considering It's my first stock bot in around a year or more I don't think it's too bad but I know it could be alot better. Please give me some suggestions on how to make this better. So here it is.

Don't know where the heck I got the name from but it sounds pretty cool. Also does anybody have any sugghestions on how to get an extra set of wheels? Also any suggestions for building up to the weight limit? Normally I don't struggle but I don't really know how to use the remaining weight effectively.

EDIT: You can't really see in the picture but the black battery is stacked.

Yes. And you're wasting much weight with the angled extenders.

I know but without them the wedge doesn't work.

Please don't use BMPS. As for your bot, you have pretty good chassis management. It would be beneficial to get rid of those anglers in any way you can, and to add at least a few more weapons. You could also stack another snapper inot each of your two snappers, then add motors and wheels to those to get another set. Over all, not that bad of a bot.

Add more weapons and shorten the wedges slightly.

He's wasting weight? That robot has plenty of leftover weight. A few extra extenders to improve a wedge aren't going to matter in this case.

Nonsense. He should save weight whatever the weight of the robot is. Saved weight = more weight to use = better robot in most cases. Even if it's SLIGHTLY better.

Also, there are better and lighter wedges out there, MM. None of the good stock builders uses 3 angled extenders to improve a wedge.

Please Naryar, if you have a sugestion about how to better my wedge I would be glad to hear it.

You're right.

I would use a crooked wedge like that for lowering the angle between the wedge and the ground, because i think you have the ground clearance for this design with grannies, plus the iron spike for some more defense (copied for Sage's Raze and Daze).

Or you could use a blade on your wedge for even more wedge protection (several builders use that).

_______

Also, i bet you could use a straight wedge (wedge extender attached normally to the Snapper like you did, and not perpendicular) if you used shinies (less weight).

Scrap Daddy made a rammer with shinies and snowplows (see his showcase, Doomed LumberJack) and i think it's invertible. You could make something like his design, but with wedges.

In all cases, remove these angled connectors.

Ok, thanks Nary but I was upgrading my bot while you where posting that and have found a way to get rid of the anglers, here is the update. Built up to the weight limit this time by adding another set of wheels and a few more weapons. Changed the axes to irons to save weight aswell. so here it is:

Suggestions on how to make better would still be greatly appriciated. Thanks

We can't make it better if you don't show us how good it is. take some battleshots and then we can help.

Rotate the Z-teks 90 degrees so the flat side is facing down, then switch to shiny hub wheels.  That will get you 24 kgs you can use to make a wider ramming front.  Right now, it's pretty narrow and prone to getting knocked aside by HS's.

In fact, this design is probably more complicated than it needs to be.  If you just put the drive motors inside a bigger chassis I bet you could actually save weight and get more stuff on.
