Title: Kungfooey242's Stock Showcase
Post by: Kungfooey242 on December 18, 2014, 07:06:55 PM
Hello, this is my first showcase on this forum. I'm quite new to this forum, but not to the game, so I have quite a few bots made. If you want to specifically see one of the robots on here, please say so and I will put a larger image and component image in the discussion.

I'vs decided to add videos of the bots facing off against Grog, The Warrior just to show their combat skills.
Piercer:

Hammertime:

Here's Johnny!!:

Socker:

Mike Botson:

Tom Sawer:

Thanks SKBT and Wacky Bob for teaching me how to put videos and Click buttons on here!

Hard to tell how you can improve your bots just from the preview pictures; next time take screenshots of the bots in the botlab, and show the insides of them as well.

For general advice on how to improve the bots, you can start by shrinking the chassis on most of them.  By doing this, you'll gain the weight for more weapons.  Speaking of which, iron fists, sledgehammers, and sawblades aren't ideal weapons for competitive building because they don't cause much damage and don't have much HP either.  As for wheels, shiny hub wheels are the most preferred because, apart from size and weight, all of the stock wheels have the same stats, but shinies are the lightest wheels as well as one of the smallest.

Also, I'm a bit late on this but welcome to GTM!  Hope you enjoy it here, and enjoy RA2 as well.

Give us a close up on all of them, with insides.

More weapons, less huge chassis.

Also if you want better advice you'll need to post insides of the bots.

Piercer was one of my first bots. Actually, it was the second one i made. The first one isn't shown because i deleted it.

hybrids oui oui

Build to weight limit.

Never use multiple small batteries - use a single black, or a nifty in that case.

Increase drive.

Use shiny wheels - they're the lightest.

Make sure the component setup fits the chassis.

I just added combat videos of my bots, so go ahead and see them fight if you want.

Lower the chassis possibly, move batteries for space to add HP-ZTEKS, use side attachment points on 20cm extenders to get more weapons on the axes and pistons.

You may want to download the latest Starcore pack (which I think is 4 Beta or something) so you know what type of standard you should be building to because beating Grog or whatever other bot in the original stock AI is not an accomplishment. You can also put them in your Robot Designs folder to see how people make them to give you a little helping hand.

Also, sledgehammers are terrible.

Blue snappers SUCK as burst motors, axe head are kinda crappy, and buzzards are pretty much worthless. Also, do you know about DSA at all?

If you want to build like a pro, check out the Beetle Bros Building Techniques. (http://beetlebros.gametechmods.com/ra2techs.htm) They provide basic information what's good, what's not, glitches that the professionals use nowadays, and it's very helpful and descriptive.

Thanks for the advice guys. I'll make sure to check out that website and also use only certain wheels, mechanics, and weapons when I build a bot today.

Tip! Dont pick a armor. THe game defaults you to aluminum. However, the armour i believe is from a beta of the game, where all the armor is twice the strength, and therefore stronger than steel. Simply dont bother selecting armor.

So, I took your guys' advice and made a new robot. It seems pretty kewl and its quite effective against other rammer type robots. Sorry, Avalanche, I just finished making it and the video when you put that post, but I'll make sure I do that next time I make a bot.
Here's a pic and a video:

Getting better!  You can get rid of one of those Supervolt batteries; believe it or not, one is enough to power all of the motors in there right now.  The chassis could also use a bit more shrinking, and you still have another ~350 kgs to use on weapons or external armor.

Is indeed improved. Your ramming rack could be much improved though, if you have the baseplate anchor on the edge of the chassis, you shouldn't need the extra black extender between that and the T connector. Also, try hovering razors in the other spots on your rack (where it seemingly won't let you connect) and rotating them slowly - for at least most of the spots you should find there's a place where they will actually connect despite going through their neighbours.

THANK YOU CRAAIG. That is awesome. You shoulda heard me when I tried it and it actually worked. I also took away that extra extender like you told me to.
Here's the new picture:

Also, nice TF2 Festive Flamethrower in your signature. I used to play TF2 a lot, but I never found any festive or unusual weapons.

You need to load up, more is better for rammers. Tougher weapons such as iron spikes, maces, ax heads, and poll spikes tend to be better than razors latter in matches. Six wheel drive for HW rammers also tend to work better due to extra speed

You can make a smaller chassis. Also 1 black battery should be enough for 4 spin motors.

The fact that you're taking advice and improving earns you an A+ in my book. Keep improving dude!

Now that you seem to have most of the basics down try getting your robot to fill the weight limit.
