Title: KOS' Incarnations
Post by: KOS on November 14, 2013, 05:15:15 PM
Deathmill 17:

(https://gametechmods.com/uploads/images/37077Robot Arena 2 Deathmill 17.jpg)
(https://gametechmods.com/uploads/images/89879Robot Arena 2 Deathmill 17 Inside.jpg)

One of my favorite 36 maced spinners - DSA, 3 maces on each extender, 4 hpz's, protected wheels. Leave any feedback on the robot :D

Deathmill 16:

(https://gametechmods.com/uploads/images/94363Robot Arena 2 Deathmill 16.jpg)
(https://gametechmods.com/uploads/images/11295Robot Arena 2 Deathmill 16 Inside.jpg)

Another 36 maced spinner, this one is based off the legendary 36 maced spinner, absolute chaos, but has been completely remade : (Smaller chassis, better arranged mace placement, slightly more protected wheels) - DSA, 3 maces on each extender, 4 hpz's. Leave any feedback on the robot :D

(https://gametechmods.com/uploads/images/17682Robot Arena 2 Deathmill 15.jpg)
(https://gametechmods.com/uploads/images/53518Robot Arena 2 Deathmill 15 Inside.jpg)

Possibly my favorite vertical spinner - dsa, 16 irons, 4 hpz (2x2 chained), inside wheels, decent wedge, stable. Leave any feedback on the robot :D

looks solidly build. not even just for a first bot either, just solid in general. the only problem i can really think of is the turning speed caused by the wheels being close together, but its fine.
they look similar to other designs (you probably looked at them while you were lurking), but its fine. not many people start out with a completely game-changing design when they start out. i'm sure it'll straighten itself out as this showcase goes on.

Thanks for the feedback, i hope to learn a lot more and make some more uniquer designs. But hey gotta start out somewhere :D

good starting designs, although stop getting wheels so close to each other - it diminishes turnspeed

Not bad, but the BBEANS nifty is illegal for tournaments. :P

yea i'm going to try fitting a stock one. its just that it will take ages with the size of the chassis. :)

finally got a stock nifty to fit :)

My newest spinner and possibly my best, it has 39 maces on 4 hpz's and a 2 hpz's drive, it also has 2 (stacked) blacks. The only problem i have is the crappy plastic armour :L

I would probably move the black up in between the two snappers. *MAYBE* you *MIGHT* be able to get DSA by doing that.

You are correct Mr. AwesumSauce, here it is, a 39 maced spinner with dsa

Just out of curiosity, why do 19's wheels stick out like that?
Title: Re: KOS_Flow's Best Bots Showcase
Post by: KOS on December 12, 2013, 02:25:00 AM
They stick out because if i were to directly attach the motor to the snapper the wheels wouldn't touch the ground and it would cause immense havoking.

Whilst Absolute Chaos is a very good bot, I'm fairly sure it is outdated. I would try your bot against something more recent. Also, did you AI it? Doesn't look like you did, but correct me if I'm wrong. Testing with it AI'd is always better than you driving it.
This is more of a personal thing, but maybe now that you've proven you have the basics (or not basics) of good building down, maybe try something less generic. An interesting hybrid, perhaps? (again, this is a personal thing. I just find mega-HS's boring)

1) Yea i know but where would i find a good robot to test it out on? 2) Yes its ai'd, it uses Omniram.py 3) Yea i'm going to try, but in my opinion personally i like to make the best robots, but it will be fun to make a hybrid

Starcore V4 or INF AI, your choice

My first hybrid ever, dont blame me if it is bad, because i've never made one before :D , - It is a rammer/vs Hybrid: 22 irons for the rammer part, 8 for the spinner, 2 razors and ice picks, 4wd and DSA.

I'd recommend getting rid of the spinners in favor of wedges. They're not getting anything to do.

I'd recommend getting rid of the spinners in favor of wedges. They're not getting anything to do.
Or he could get a wedge and find a way to move the spinners forward.

KOS, how stable is it? I remember having a few VS set up like that and they were not stable at all.

It is actually very stable, which surprised. me
Title: Re: KOS_Flow's Best Bots Showcase
Post by: Badnik96 on December 14, 2013, 04:27:28 PM
I'd replace the inner motors with wedges of some sort and move the spinners up a little. TBH you don't need 4WD. Or am I an idiot? I dont play stock much...

This rammer is an absolute beast :D - 10 HPZ drive, DSA, 2 Blacks, 20 irons and 4 ice picks.

yea i might drop it down and try to get some protection on the wheels.

Right Before you guys post that popups are cheap pieces of overpowered sh** i just want to say that i agree and this is in fact a message.

Ultimate Popup - 2 blacks, 10 razors, 2 ramplates, 4wd and the best wedges evar! literally perfect.

Racing Stripes 3 - 2 Blacks, 18 razors, sliding wedges and 4wd - wedges are pretty good

Tempest - My first and only upside down robot with invincible caster armour, 14 razors, 2 blacks, and 4wd. Wedges are meh.

I like the caster armor one.
Title: Re: KOS_Flow's Best Bots Showcase
Post by: Pwnator on December 20, 2013, 09:55:49 PM
mmm yes very generic and very well built

for the castered one though, rotate the drive so the 'hexagon' is flush against the ground

that might improve the wedges

Sooo i tried to make some middleweights and make some setups for them: This is how it went:
(https://gametechmods.com/uploads/images/97984Deathmill MW3 Out.jpg)
(https://gametechmods.com/uploads/images/85235Deathmill MW3 In.jpg)
Deathmill MW3 - 15 Razors, 2 hpz weapon motors and 2 normal ztek's for drive, can beat mostly all middleweights that i have tested it against in INF AI and B.B.E.A.N.S.
(https://gametechmods.com/uploads/images/64662Deathmill MW3.5 Out.jpg)
(https://gametechmods.com/uploads/images/19353Deathmill MW3.5 In.jpg)
Deathmill MW3.5 - This bot is painful to look at if you have OCD (uneven weaponry) - 10 irons and 2 razors with 2 hpz weapon motors, and 2 ztek's for drive. This one was a big improvement as it can get underneath and between hs type spinners and hit the chassis.
(https://gametechmods.com/uploads/images/83169Deathmill MW3.5 B Out.jpg)
(https://gametechmods.com/uploads/images/51804Deathmill MW3.5 B In.jpg)
Deathmill MW3.5 B - This is what i ended up with, 12 BEAR claws (which are surprisingly good) and a snowplow for protection against rammers and popups. Any feedback would be appreciated :D

RA2, ACAMS STYLE

They're all very generic though. It's fine if you start by cloning designs for learning, but then start to build your own.
Title: Re: KOS_Flow's Best Bots Showcase
Post by: Pwnator on December 30, 2013, 12:43:15 PM
for MW3.5A, try evening the weapons out (so each motor gets 1 razor) and flip one of those motors so it can take on bots such as MW3

but yeah, generic but very clean setups, so keep up the good work :3

I'm gonna repeat some advice Mr AS and Virus Bomb gave me: Don't use the T extender, it's heavier and weaker than just using round extenders. Maybe then you can get that last razor on the FS? Other than that, I think it looks pretty good.

I don't play stock very often, but like, those VSs seem to far back to cause damage.

Title: Re: KOS_Flow's Best Bots Showcase
Post by: Pwnator on January 17, 2014, 08:34:43 PM
while the 2nd bot looks radical, you're still spending too much weight on an external setup

minimize the use of extenders so place the wedge ddts inside and the turn your drive snapper setup around to accommodate the weapon ddts

so in effect you could only have 8 razors for the setup, but at least it won't immediately git wrekt by a wedgier gutripper
Title: Re: KOS_Flow's Best Bots Showcase

lots of empty space in the first one. you can make a better chassis than that.

Warlord looks pretty sweet. Dunno about Arctic Blizzard, the chassis seems kinda exposed. Is the 4WD worth it?

Rebound is one of the most compact HS ive seen in stock.

42 bear claws yes

Also Warlord is cool. I thought it was a HW at first :p

You could put a plow on the HS using on the of the snapper 2 back APs and a few extenders.

Clean setup but pretty simple, been done plenty of times with different chassis shapes.

Title: Re: KOS_Flow's Best Bots Showcase
Post by: Sage on February 19, 2014, 02:11:46 PM
That extender work in the back is so gross.

I would also flip the DDTs around so that that hammers are higher up. The VS will presumably be juggling other robots, so those low hammers aren't gonna do much of anything.

May I ask 1 question how many spikes, discs, maces, flippers and such and such do you need?

I know it's a weird reason but this is why I don't play ra2 competitively.

Well for heavyweights it all depends on the type of bot and the arena it will be on. For instance, horizontal spinners mainly win their matches by de-weaponing other hs's, so they win by out-weaponing. (moar weapons) On the other hand though, popups are all about the wedge, and there ability to get underneath other popups, but at the same time have enough armour to withstand hs's. Generally, a good hs has 36 maces, or 30 with a few plows, or caster armour, a good popup usually has 6-8 razors on each ddt (usually 2 ddt's)
Flippers generally aren't used competitively, as stock flippers aren't the best in power, the only good flippers are usually rupt's.

(awaits for someone to correct me)

In my opinion rad drive is really no different, as speed isn't essential for a 36hs

Post by: Pwnator on March 08, 2014, 09:49:04 AM
If you're using RADs, you might as well use shinies. You could probably also ditch the snowplows for caster armor (needs a chassis rebuild though).

Yeah, I was surprised that Brute only placed 11th, too.

If it's going to be a SnS, I don't think the caster is going to do much. Instead, I would use a 40cm+20cm on four of the ends of the tri-bars to extend the reach.

Are the irons all rotated the same way? They look a bit off.

Nice stacking.

Quantum Annihilator: Weight: 395

This is a 4WD Middleweight Popup, It has DSA, 1 black, 2 DDT's, 4 Razors and Mediocre wedges. (They're Blue Snappers)

Exostacked Black FTW!
Title: Re: KOS_Flow's Best Bots Showcase
Post by: Sage on April 10, 2014, 09:51:47 AM
idk man dat black is pretty suspicious

as a build overall its pretty cool, but at an effective bot it doesn't look good at all. 4wd is absolutely useless if you can't get under the opponent because your wedges suck
Title: Re: KOS_Flow's Best Bots Showcase
Post by: KOS on April 10, 2014, 09:59:34 AM
Yea it was just to see if a 4WD MW popup was possible. As for the black, i sent it to a friend and we were trying to stack it for a good hour, then unintentionally I exostacked it XD
Title: Re: KOS_Flow's Best Bots Showcase
Post by: Mr. AS on April 10, 2014, 03:20:25 PM
I've built 4WD popups before, and it'll only be good if you have 1 DDT.

The wedges are horrible because you have your drive + weapons attached to them. They'll be better if you just have them dedicated solely to wedging.

I really like this bot for some reason, it's small and deadly. It doesn't have an airtank,
because the weapon is heavy enough to fire out of the pistons, so it would be a waste of weight imo.

When the AI fires, then reverses, it has the same effect as firing with CO2 (I think it's to do with the weight of the weapon)

I'm pretty sure that irons (or any weapon for that matter) that are scraping along the ground cause no damage. So you may want to factor that into your design with what looks like the entire bottom rack resting on the ground.

ugh... 3 hours of pure stacking, think this was the hardest stack ever (triple baseplate (one also exostacked :o) + nifty) I got to a point where everything was in, but the anchors were to far forward, so the z's wouldn't fit due to the plow.  ::2mad

Its actually a slightly stretched hexagon, like the motor itself.

But anyway, the bot looks brilliant, I see no faults. I don't like static HPZs because they don't really spin fast enough, but I suppose you could say the same about RADs. Nice all the same.

Built this three years ago, very similar. I assume you were able to get DSA on yours by only using 1 extender instead of two and having a smaller chassis.

It's always impressive when someone uses an axle. Nice work.

Surprisingly it doesn't, but you have to keep in mind that the pause button is needed before the match to stop AGOD.

Thanks Sage :D

yeah, looks real good, but if it doesnt work without pause it kinda doesnt count. The whole mess with working with axles is that they pretty much agod all the time. Im pretty sure Tornado doesnt need the pause.

but still, well built.

This. You can't allow the axles the move at all. It's a lot harder to break them on the axis of rotation than perpendicular to it. The only way you can have them move is how that one bot was built where the axle was mounted facing up, and the bot rotated with it. (Speaking of which, that bot was one of my favorites. I wish I could remember the name).

Volatile Partisan?

I think bots requiring pause to load are okay to build, you just can't enter them in tournaments as pause will mess with the opponent.  You can do a lot of fun things with pause-loading that you can't otherwise, like vertical flails.

The first picture made it look like the RADS were poking slightly out of the front. But still, that RAD stack is insane for a first bot.

Also, the piston bot looks really cool. If you can do a double axle stack + nifty while half asleep, I think you might have one of those glitched games or graphics cards that makes stacking easier, just like venko of days past.

Silentium V
It IS a lightweight hs with a plow and 2 hpz's and plastic. It annihilates all other plow hs, but as Click said, it IS better to have better drive than weapon motors.
soo much stacking >;(((

Incase you guys are wondering I do these stacks, this is how and the requirements:
Firstly, you need a good monitor with a high resolution and refresh rate.(change in the .cfg to your native resolution and to fullscreen.)
Secondly, you need a mouse with a variable DPI. (I use a g400s) change the windows sensitivity to the lowest option, and change the sensitivity on the mouse for better accuracy.
Now the in game steps that I do:
Firstly, from a birds eye view go to the chassis tab and uber zoom in.
Secondly, change the DPI to the lowest setting and stack away :D

Wow.

Funny thing is, that RAD stack isn't even necessary, as you have a whole 1.2 kg left over for possible chassis expansion.  In fact, it would almost certainly be better with a bigger chassis and a wider wheel base, to improve turning speed.

...Huh.  Not every day you give advice and say "make the chassis bigger".  Great job with that build.

Great build, it's really cool.

If you have weight left on the last one, you could try making the wedge shallower.

Are you sure you want to use the trov glitch to protect your motors? I would build it backwards, so that the extra bit of chassis is in the back, reducing the frontal area that an opponent can hit. This will also help a ton against popups.

Anchors are the only thing I can exo-stack, I find it quite easy. However,  a simple Nifty + CB stack, that's a different story. :P
I dunno why there so hard for me.
This is the exact same situation I am in. I could stack anchors all day, but i cannotstack a cb for the life of me.

I'm not really sure if getting more battery power in there is going to help when you have RAD though.

I assume it suffers from the same thing as my 48HS... impossible to drive, and weapons are too heavy.

Maybe 42 is better!

EDIT: i totally forgot I made a 42 mace spinner as well... without your cheap hax stacks!!!!! Mine had DSA and HPZ drive. How did you run out of weight?

EDIT 2: I lied, mine only had 1 black. For reference:

Those motors seem really exposed to HS and seem like they would get ripped off quickly. If you used a 0 degree BA and a regular extender instead of angled BA and angled extender you could probably attach some sort of protection off the side AP of the extender

It's just big enough to fit a nifty. If you look close you can see the red mesh of the nifty mixed with the side of the robot, as well as the green edge of the control board very slightly exostacked at the bottom

I'm used to stacking my control boards at the top of the Nifty, but I see what you mean. From that angle, the chassis looks like it is too small to fit a control board.

I think I get where you're going. I bet you've barely have any ideas left to make that you haven't tried yet, or you are just flat out bored with RA2.

But still, the bot looks pretty good, even if it's a bit generic, I'm actually surprised you got regular z-tek drive and redbirds.

Dangit I was planning on making an iron fist rammer. Yours is probably better than I could do though.

Lightning Strike
Invincible casters are so 2003, so here in 2014 we now have invincible snapper 2's :D
Decay
Yep, a lightweight flipper  :trollface it flips things OOTA relatively quickly

Two things I'm concerned about:

1. Can the maces on the side hammer even reach anything reliably?
2. Does the flipper occasionally havok with the setup used?

They do look pretty nice otherwise, especially with the sick exostacking skills used.

That flipper doesn't look good at all, but it's a LW flipper, what did you expect? Really underpowered and exposed.

Side hammer is better, but it's still a side hammer. Do the snappers still fire after they get hit once or twice?

They actually don't, which is why I used them for protection and weapons.

...So, what's the point in having them as weapons if they aren't even going to work after 20 seconds or so?

Wait, KOS. Is the lightning strike based on the AWP in cs:go? :P

protection

I mean, sure, it won't be able to do any damage unless anything slides round the side, but any full-frontal hits won't damage the chassis.
It's a cool concept but I think the weapons not firing after a while will be a major downside.

haha oops, I didn't re read what I posted. the snappers ARE invincible, and don't take any damage as far as I've tested  ;)

Really nice.

Maybe pull the top plate back one more notch for the wedges? They look a little steep to me, though it could just be my eyes and that angle.
