Title: ianh05's Antweight Specialist Showcase!
Post by: ianh05 on March 23, 2009, 07:32:52 AM
I'm a big fan of lightweight, beetleweight and antweight robots, the weight limit makes them a challenge to build and come up with unique and effective designs.

NOTE: My AW's start showing up around page 6 and continue to improve the deeper into the showcase you go.

EDIT: Noob bots removed

Fate - 3rd place in Around the World.
Ugly Duckling - Runner-up in CombatAnts 3.

ANTWEIGHT PREVIEW

Here are some of my best/coolest AW's:

AW - Stone Tablet: A very strong, fast rammer with 26lbs/kgs(whatever system the game uses) of weaponry.
(https://gametechmods.com/uploads/images/88449AW - Stone Tablet.jpg)

AW - Tumbleweed: A neat flailing hammer/slapper type bot with a protective razor that's also used for ramming.
(https://gametechmods.com/uploads/images/94215AW - Tumbleweed.jpg)
(https://gametechmods.com/uploads/images/4699AW - Tumbleweed battleshots.jpg)

AW - Tripwire: A really annoying AW wammer for opponents to face with it's nice wedge and great speed provided by it's 2 pinks. The 2 razor tips are there to deal damage to any bot it gets under.

AW - Toy Drumset 2: The sequal to the very first stock AW drum bot. A nice AW drum with only 1 pink, however that is enough power to get under and lift AW's.
(https://gametechmods.com/uploads/images/76662Toy Drumset 2 splash.jpg)

AW - One-eyed Jack: A tough rammer/axle HS hybrid designed to ram bots with the razors and have the iron spike spin around and hit either side of the opposing bot.
(https://gametechmods.com/uploads/images/46146One-eyed Jack.jpg)

AW - Downward Spiral: The first in the series of AW axle drills designed to rip away at the top of other AW's.

I would use a Snapper rather than a redbird as upward clamp on your second bot.

LW are very challenging to build : good weapons or good protection ? speed, exposed wheels, etc ?

btw, your bots seem to have a gravity center quiet high, haven't they go stability trouble ?

i make them all as stable as possible or make them able to self right or make them invertible.

the bottom one has no stability issues that i have run into, the top one can be improved.

Cool with the bottom one.. but that spike on the Redbird looks like one (weight) costly scrimech. Suppose there's another spike on the other end or something?

ummm... no? a snapper can't clamp. it hits. hes saying that the motor spins down and clamps.

its really the only way to clamp in stock ra2, but in my opinion still not very effective.

I mean just like a hammer with inverted start and end positions. Snapper starts in low position, you fire it upwards, and it clamps on the return swing.

No?

tried out the snapper idea and it really didn't help due to reach problems you have to be very precise when you fire the snapper and if you miss you gotta wait to fire again. with the redbird its attack is more frequent and precision isn't an issue.

i know it's no lightweight but here's a heavyweight that I'm trying to make better:

(https://gametechmods.com/uploads/images/68511death touch 2.JPG)

I'm no wedge expert as of yet, i get the feeling it should be longer though.. any ideas?

EMERGENCY wedges generally aren't that effective, and those snowplows that you're using to trap bots are probably a bit too close together.
Title: ianh05's lightweight fanatic showcase!
Post by: ianh05 on March 24, 2009, 01:46:34 PM
i used emergency wedges cause they are bigger and provide more protection to the front of the chassis.. if i change to small wedges and extend the wedges out the front more i need to cover the extenders which on this bot is a problem as i have the snapper motors set on the sides.
Title: ianh05's lightweight fanatic showcase!
Post by: Scrap Daddy on March 24, 2009, 06:16:35 PM
I don't think the wedges will be effective it they are on the snappers that way.

P.S.- if you need to protect a extender on a wedge put a blade or a spike strip on it.

Post by: Somebody on March 24, 2009, 07:13:16 PM
Also, I think that:
You shouldn't use the angle connectors, they waste weight.
The chained HPZs might be a bad idea, because I can easily see this bot as a grinder with the plows, and the HPZs slow down after one hit.
Title: ianh05's lightweight fanatic showcase!
Post by: ianh05 on March 25, 2009, 06:50:56 PM
these weapons don't slow down after hitting the opponent that's for sure, once it touches your chassis it rips it up faster then the flash can walk down the street :P

more lightweight designs are underway.

does anyone remember my attempt at a lightweight dual VS? well it had stability issues and kept tipping over. i thought i could resolve the issue by putting the drive further back on the bot to balance it out, well it worked but now i have turning issues >.<

(https://gametechmods.com/uploads/images/32515New Bitmap Image (4).JPG)

advice? :)

and here's my best lightweight that i have built imo for those who never got to see it, this pic is of the very first version and it was improved with longer wedges but i lost that version.

Someone named Hannah, presumably?

I like your bots.  It's hard to make original bots these days, especially original LW's.

The dual VS can't turn because the wheels are too close together and too far back.  You need to move them forward or move them out.  That would be a lot easier to do with Redbirds... with angle motors you would need some long extenders, which would be about as heavy as Redbirds anyway.  See if you can squeeze out enough weight for Redbirds.  Possibly ditch the baseplate anchors and make the chassis big enough in the back to fit them in (there's a good chance the necessary extension would actually be less than 8 kgs.)

The side hammer LW is cool.  I didn't think it could be done effectively.  Like inf said, though, you'd be a lot better off with a plow than a wedge.
Title: ianh05's lightweight fanatic showcase!
Post by: ianh05 on March 27, 2009, 12:44:52 AM
that's correct :P

when the drive was closer to the front it would tip over forward so moving it forward again would cause the same problem (tried it) and i tried moving the motors apart more using the different attachment points on the extenders and that didn't help it turn either.. weird.

anyways i updated the lw side hammer bot.

(https://gametechmods.com/uploads/images/70042New Bitmap Image (5).JPG)

invertible, nifty battery, redbird drive, DSA. only problem now is that the weapons break off too easily.

i'm wondering if i can somehow get 2 plows on it to stop spinners.

Razor wind: Those innermost razors are useless, move them out to protect the extender. That wedge is useless, if it's for balance, use an estender or somthing else.

Post by: ianh05 on April 01, 2009, 05:01:05 PM
S32: u try and build anything like that and make it n.ot cartwheel... it's the downside of pretty much every vertical spinner. also its n.ot just a basic vertical spinner.

the whole point of showcasing is to get positive feedback or constructive criticism your last comment was neither, i said "working on something new".

with razor wind, the wedge has to stay, you are wrong if you think otherwise! yes I'm already trying to extend the weapons out more.

EDIT:

(https://gametechmods.com/uploads/images/13768New Bitmap Image (11).JPG)

been trying out a number of versions for this flail vertical spinner, the offense is good i just need some protection for the front extenders.

You can always count on S32 to be a pain.

Both of your vertical spinners are original and pretty cool but... well, these weapon setups look unbalanced to me.

Are you having stability issues with these? (I mean, higher than the average V$)
Title: ianh05's lightweight fanatic showcase!
Post by: ianh05 on April 01, 2009, 06:15:57 PM
i managed to get one of the attempts stable enough to get around without many stability problems, others bounce around a little... kinda like off road driving :)

but yeah this is just me trying something new, I'm n.ot even sure if it will work.

I didn't even see that that thing had flails until you posted those battle shots.  Nice work; one of the most original weapons I've seen on a LW.  It's got to be a pain to make a LW flailing VS though, with the axles glitching out every time you enter the bot lab.

I would use a plow instead of those wedges, though.  Perhaps two if you have weight.  You aren't going to get under much with un-bursted wedges, and a plow would provide considerably more protection.

Also, I think iron spikes would be a good weapon choice.  They're longer, so in theory you could use shorter extenders which would then get hit less often.

Ant-enna: Those weapons are deadly, but could be better with an iron and a razor...
Maniac 2: Those side razors are good against HS, how did you get them there?
Shocker: Rotate those weapons 90 degrees.
Hypnospin 2: I know that's not a giant FS, because that weapon is better at trapping, am I right?
The Button: Another unbalanced VS, but it's nice. Could you use a T connector instead???

And as a late reply to your arguement about unbalanced VS: (http://i230.photobucket.com/albums/ee185/ninteen45/screenshot_25-1.jpg)

Post by: ianh05 on April 03, 2009, 11:06:00 AM
the button isn't that unstable, if you check the vids on my site it's about as stable as VS's come and the wedge on the button is the best wedge i have oh and it has beaten Dozer in a test run of the tilt challenge lol.

ion-cutter is also a very stable VS, i tested it by driving full speed into the test garage wall.

ant-tenna, i could use 2 irons or 3 razors. this little AW has got 600+ hits :/

maniac 2 is actually a lw HS/FS hybrid.

shocker, i should be able to do that but i dunno if it will be any better.

hypnospin 2 is actually a giant FS with double stacked razors, just something different really.

That would make it overweight and have a shorter weapon reach.

Try making the weapon on Maniac 2 farther forward, or move the plow back.

it definitely won't make a difference, no stability issues with the button at all. when i put it against starcore bws (AI vs AI) it beat all the bots i put it against, from spinners to pop-ups to rammers.

i had an idea to make an AW, BW and LW only AI pack :)

Nice bots, I like the AW VS.  Stability is never an issue when you use a Redbird or an angle motor.  They spin too slow for that.

I wonder if Death Touch would be more effective as a VS, or just how it is.  I've not seen very many HS's with stacked Z-teks.  Do you have any battle shots of it?

Hmm, I suppose it's better at trapping bots as an HS.

If you fight any bot with protected sides though (like a tribar HS) those iron spikes are going to break.

Still, a nice original design.  Too bad it can't be in BBEANS.

Yep... and I'd add some razors on the discs, kinda like NWB since this is a cross between a juggler, a FS and a HS.

Bumped from page 7 :O

i built a new AW that i haven't seen before :) ..

calling it guided missile or something, 1 Pink, plastic armor.

using a mower blade as a ram weapons new to me but I think your set up could be done easily with plastic extenders
Title: Re: ianh05's lightweight fanatic showcase!
Post by: ianh05 on July 15, 2010, 05:11:00 AM
sadly it wouldn't let me attach the extender so the connection point faces out in a straight direction over the blade. the mower is there for protection mostly and i can't remember if it helps break off other robots weapons while still.

Looks quite impressive to me. I quite like the idea of using the mower blade for protection.

More AW's :D

(https://gametechmods.com/uploads/images/16934new AWs.jpg)

Top left: An angled HS designed to hit the top of other AW's.
Top right: Baby Bear, a basic HS using bear claws.
Bottom left: An AW FS that does surprisingly well in combat.
Bottom Right: An AW VS that actually beat my AW HS (Baby Bear).

I used the same chassis for all of them and just changed the weapon setup, all plastic armor with 1 pink.

battle Shot of my modified AW angled HS beating Baby bear in 15 seconds (AI vs AI):

I decided to move the weapon motor to the other side of the extender to make the bot less likely to get flipped over.

I actually really like the idea of an over-cutting hs in the AW division. Half the time the other bot has plastic so this could be a good idea.

1 pink is a bit ifffy though.
Title: Re: ianh05's lightweight fanatic showcase!
Post by: ianh05 on July 17, 2010, 12:10:54 AM
thanks for the comments i could go with 1 Razor and 2 pinks on the over cutter.. hmmm.

I'm also working on an AW angled Top spinner (closest you can get to a juggler in AW division):

Same chassis still :)
Title: Re: ianh05's lightweight fanatic showcase!
Post by: Pwnator on July 17, 2010, 12:20:14 AM
Would have been cool, but it won't 'juggle' opponents at this stage.

I was thinking of having a setup just like your claw HS, but the the motor closer to the ground and with the razors on top. Then simply lower your drive (instead of raising it a notch like the rest of your AWs) to get that angled stance. :D

You could probably change the pole spike on the second for something slightly more useful/better? No idea to be honest, dunno the weights of things in Stock.

And although the burst is exposed in the first, i oddly really like it XD
Title: Re: ianh05's lightweight fanatic showcase!
Post by: ianh05 on July 18, 2010, 06:18:42 AM
pole spike is there for a little extra damage and some protection, i would like something a bit wider there though. I will try and get the 2 razors on an extender using the one baseplate and that will give me 2 extra kgs to spend on something bigger.

You should make a whole bunch more then AI them and do a tourney like MikeNCR did with his LW's.
Title: Re: ianh05's lightweight fanatic showcase!
Post by: ianh05 on July 18, 2010, 10:49:18 AM
just about to test it :) if it doesn't work i'll go back to 2 pinks and try and get a 10cm blade to run down the front.

we need some AW specialist among us :O i was thinking about about making a small AW/BW/LW AI pack.  I might upload a new video sometime between now and tonight (aus time).

i do take video requests if you want to see specific ones fight. i have more then i have posted but they are more generic like rammers and sit and spinners.

Is one pink enough? And for SnSing, I think that if you turned those drive motors 90 degrees to get a better turning radius

How come one arm on AW SnS 1 has two extenders and the other has one?

Find a way to turn the motors 90 degrees to the left to create a wider turning radius.

Speaking of which, you can lower Can Opener's weapon (90-degree baseplate -> 20cm with APs facing down -> RAD - > FS). Not sure if that makes it better, though.

yep that's a servo :P just part of an experiment I'm conducting, due to lack of battery available for AW's i figure that a servo might be better for longer fights then a RAD would.

i was in CombatAnts 1 i think, pretty sure i lost 1st round though :)

That's actually some good thinking. The RADs are so underpowered anyway, the servo probably spins just as fast.

Unfortunately, although servos don't REQUIRE batteries, they still drain battery if you have them.

But I haven't tested to see how servo battery drain does work... it might not be a flat 100 like it is for spin motors.  How does the servo VS perform?  Better than an angle motor?
Title: Re: ianh05's lightweight and below specialist showcase!
Post by: ianh05 on July 28, 2010, 01:24:52 AM
yeah the thought i had was once the battery was drained it would still be able to lift other bots and get under them like VSers should. Still yet to see how it all works out though, I could send someone both my AW VSers if they want to test them out.

the Chassis wedge is actually what contains the control board and baseplate anchor :) the back part has the pink and RAD's.

Can the RAD be attached straight to the Anchor? If so, combine that with your Airtight chassis and you've got yourself an iron on there, if ya want.

plastic armor, i could mount it directly if it was on the top like it used to be but then the chassis would be more exposed for rammers and chickens to eat it up  :frown:

Make weapon smaller using Axle loading. Have the razors overlap like this:

====
C  R
C  R
====

R = razor

C = where the extender is connected.

/search axle loading.

Razor tips won't get under anything, but will keep bots from hitting the disc.
Title: Re: ianh05's lightweight and below specialist showcase!
Post by: ianh05 on August 01, 2010, 06:22:50 PM
it's something I'm testing at the moment, the basic idea is to keep bots away from the disc and get under any weapons that are sticking out.

- Lifts weapons on Rammers, Face Spinners and Horizontal Spinners.
- Ramming razors are weighed down so they should help against popups.

they are fun :) i just think some other members what like to see me build some new LW's. If you want Badnik i can send you the Bot file and paint template I use (the paint template tells you what's the front, top, sides and such.)

some of the mini's I built are planned to be Robo Zone 2 prizes :P

Thanks, I have an Eye Poker, SFTW and NWB minis right now, I'll get pics up.

And I would like the paint template, thanks.

paint template has been sent.

For the juggler-ish bot, instead of a 0-degree anchor, use a 22.5-degree one so your spinners can be lower. :D

simple solutions don't always work out  ::2mad

(https://gametechmods.com/uploads/images/4936LW Juggler.jpg)

1 razor tip on each motor is pointed up slightly, both have DSA and 1 Nifty.

Also:

(https://gametechmods.com/uploads/images/78464New H.A.N.N.A.H and Bad Attitude versions.jpg)

thinking about dropping H.A.N.N.A.H Returns down to a normal z-tek so I can get some protection for the motor, other then that it's pretty good and got a 1k hit on V.4 Tempus Fugit.

Bad Attitude is still under heavy fixing, it has 7 different versions at the moment, hopefully I can build a combat worthy version soon :)

new AW  i still have plenty of new AW's I plan to build.

(https://gametechmods.com/uploads/images/46116Point of impact.jpg)

the razor can spin to any side creating a 360 degree side hammer like action.
Title: Re: ianh05's lightweight and below specialist showcase!
Post by: Pwnator on August 06, 2010, 02:16:48 AM
Kewl!

But a 360-degree hammer (instead of a side hammer) with an iron as the holder is much better. :P

oh and i fixed Uno's caster armor so it covers more area:

is PoI the first 360 degree side hammer? (i know bisector has a 360 degree front/back style hammer.)

Yep.

And actually, I was kinda thinking about making it just like Bisector (40cm front/back instead of 20cm sideways) for a better range. :D

Title: Re: ianh05's lightweight and below specialist showcase!
Post by: Pwnator on August 06, 2010, 03:26:31 AM
Actually, the design will be a bit useless on LW-HWs since they're worthless against everything except flippers. :P
Title: Re: ianh05's lightweight and below specialist showcase!
Post by: ianh05 on August 06, 2010, 03:33:43 AM
you would need a ramplate protecting the extender and 2 plows or something in a V shape acting as stabilizers. what's great about a side 360 degree hammer as opposed to the one bisector uses is you can hit all the sides depending on which side your facing and just beat up on the exposed side instead of smashing the top.

i still want an AW to use a plow effectively and deal damage, unicorn failed :(

Point of Impact is cool, but the chassis looks mighty exposed.  Can it beat stuff?

On HANNAH Returns, I would put the razors to the side, acting as side/forward stabilizers, rather than in the middle where they block the disc.
Title: Re: ianh05's lightweight and below specialist showcase!
Post by: ianh05 on August 06, 2010, 11:48:04 PM
I still need to AI Point of Impact to test it, not sure if I'll be able to as I have never AI'd anything like it before. Still trying to improve it anyway though to get rid of the exposed chassis.

I actually have about 10 versions of H.A.N.N.A.H now here are 2 newer ones:

New AW and it's nothing as cool or unique as most of my others but hopefully more effective:

Basically a Wammer that can (hopefully) trap other AW's between the 2 top razor tips and push them around.

1 Pink, plastic. Will test it out in AI vs AI combat sometime later when i feel like making another AW team.

Why not just have defense and offense at the same time?

This way the iron spike can take less damage and will last longer plus it's cooler  .
Title: Re: ianh05's lightweight and below specialist showcase!
Post by: Clickbeetle on August 13, 2010, 12:51:22 AM
I think he means why not use an iron spike and a mace, or two iron spikes, instead of an iron spike and a small wedge since they're the same weight.

It is cooler with the wedge, but not the most efficient design.
Title: Re: ianh05's lightweight and below specialist showcase!
Post by: ianh05 on August 13, 2010, 02:40:59 AM
I'm yet to test it out properly but hopefully the wedge can "deflect" attacks and then turn the servo around to use the iron as kind of a slow HS weapon and hit the sides of the bots, this way the wedge takes the forceful hits from rammers and HS's and when the rammer slows down or the weapon on the HS slows down it can use the iron spike to attack and deal damage.

would be a pain to AI, if at all possible.

so it needs 2 active weapons to be considered a juggler? :/ isn't the whole point of a juggler to "juggle" bots on the top?

How is anything other than a spike ball mode spinner (if spikeball mode even happens on AW class) is going to get on top of that bot ?

i didn't get around to testing it, not sure if i even will. just felt like posting a new AW :) some of my AW's have been able to get under others though.

New LW:

now if building lots and lots of AW's has taught me anything it's that axles can be just as good as RAD's if used right... they grind and spin up on impact, so this would be great against spinners as you have more weapons and they spin the axle mounted weapons for you!

this is a design still being tested but worked well while i was driving head on into a VS, so there might be a future for axle mounted weapons outside of SNSers :) Thinking about replacing the 4 razors mount on the top of the disc for 2 maces.

if the weapons were right then it would be a juggler i guess, that robot is more of a grinder. also this:

AW and LWs are fairly straight forward to make, just, they can be a pain to build due to their smaller size.

if you watched ReActive in action in the last BBEANS the weapon works like that, once you ram into the other robot the weapons will move (in this case the weapon spins) the HP Z-teks make the robot faster (obviously) which will make the axle drum spin faster on impact.

Use the axle, and then move about the arena. The weapon will gradually start spinning on its own.

I guess the thing I'm wondering is whether the random rotation of the axle makes it any better than just making a rammer.  Does it increase damage that much?

Someone would have to test it, I use them to hit the undersides of other bots.

nope when the robot drives into another and goes under the iron spikes will go up and forward to hit the undersides of other robots. Wammers have static weapons and wedges.

Thanks, I get the feeling the axle could be the future of AW building. This AW popup could be changed to a single razor tip and given a small wedge too although I'd have to remove a pink also which would kill off plenty of it's speed.

no comments? :O if anyone is wondering how it works as a popup it's simple really... bot drives onto the wedge and puts pressure on it pushing it down and pushing the spike up as the robot goes up the chassis part of the wedge. this is also one of the most unique AW's I've seen, after one "popup attack" it turns into a rammer and the wedge turns into rear defense.

It can go from popup to rammer multiple times during a match, oh yeah the wedge can also provide defense to the bottom of the robot during the match too.

Also, have you used an axle on that mini billy goat gruff, or just an axle?

1. there are 4 burst motors there's 2 inside the bot.
2. yep used an axle so the disc/weapons spin.
3. most AW flippers I've seen use only 1 pink or the blue burst motor.

also.. videos of mini's!

The bot will be good up unil it meets an actual HS or drill or whatever.

I tried an axle HS before, the result is that they all apart in seconds because there is no "pushing".

HS vs HS fights are decided by the HS weapon speed, not for damage, but for the hits. The slower HS will always take a knock to the extender and do less damage because all the speed it from the powered HS and thus less. As such, the weapons fall off easily.

Rammers though, it's an alright idea.

The bot will be good up unil it meets an actual HS or drill or whatever.

I tried an axle HS before, the result is that they all apart in seconds because there is no "pushing".

I believe you can only have a maximum of 2 razors on a motor for antweights IIRC (atom ant has 2 i believe) so I will have to test this against them to see if it's an improvement, either way this will help me make better mini's for bots like absolute chaos etc. Also AW weapon motors don't usually spin fast anyway due to lack of batteries.

do the irons roll into the back often ?

Don't understand what you mean exactly but the point of putting the weapons on the axle is to make them rotate while in combat, IMO it's a combat worthy concept for antweights.

I have put Triforce on the botexchange for people to test.

ian, your bots are too anorexic.

Regardless, random decimals seem to haunt you with a lot of chassis you make.
Title: Re: ianh05's lightweight and antweight specialist showcase!
Post by: ianh05 on June 19, 2012, 11:30:45 PM
Hax mode seems to overpowered for me, the glitches we've been using for the past number of years are enough for me and AW's don't use many glitches at all. At the moment the only glitch I use for my antweights is the axle loading glitch.

It's not really a case of the decimals as the fact that I'm just always looking to improve my AW's :P with that .9 shaved off i could use an actual tribar instead of round extenders which would increase the amount of damage the weapon extender can take before falling off.

It's a shame they don't work as well as extenders (perhaps due to the size and/or weight of the tribar), I've also noticed one extra pink would greatly up to rotation speed of the axle. 3 razors on an "extender tribar" with 2 pinks might be something worth building.

All plastic.

Top left = A random axle HS with front protection/wedge.
Top right = A random Wammer.
Bottom left = A new AW top spinner made with 2 extenders on an axle, has 2 pinks so that it can get under other bots.
Bottom right = A new Flamming Whizzer style D(ual)HS with one weapon axle being lower then the other and spinning individually.

2 New antweights:

(https://gametechmods.com/uploads/images/9404Gauntlet Challenge.jpg)

The 3 planned antweight house robots in the gauntlet challenge:

Lead-off = Unicorn, a wedged rammer (wammer). Has 2 pinks, plastic armour, 1 iron and an emergency wedge.
Sent in second = Ugly Duckling, a rammer/horizontal spinner hybrid. Has 1 pink, plastic armour, 1 axe head and 2 rotating razor tips on an axle.
Anchor = Mini - Backyard Ripper, a gut-ripping angled face spinner. Has 1 pink, DSA armour and 2 razor tips on a RAD weapon motor.

The order and even the robots can change any time up until the tournament becomes official but this is what is currently planned as it provides a challenge for all types on antweights.

EDIT:

(https://gametechmods.com/uploads/images/4839Midnight Damage.jpg)

Midnight can get some good hits in, and can take quite a bit of damage. Still mostly fails, if it falls on it's side or has the mower blade removed it's game over.

plus your dsl aws would be good to replace the sh** thats currently in nar ai

and for the gauntlet were facing all 3 aw's all in a row as one match or each in its separate match so all of our weapons reset if they get knocked off each time ?

I used to have some decent DSL AW's, pretty sure I lost them all along with all my old stock robots.

Its 1v1 to start then after a certain amount of time the next robot joins then the last one joins a certain amount of time after that. Same match and it'll be in a new arena that trov is making for these tournaments, currently it's the closest way to have a 1v3 style challenge, unless there's a way to add in a 1v3 match.

That looks really cool.

Besides, that doesn't look generic to me. Never seen static irons on a chained LW HS.

how do you attach that HPZ up in the air with nothing supports it?

There's a vertical extender behind.

(btw you can just try the tankcat style chaining to try make the bot invertible)

Worth trying. See, you CAN give good advice.

(i'll obviously get repped down again).

Have you any idea of how annoying you sound when you post that ? Most especially when it is wrong ?

It seems my repdowns have made you think "all my advice is wrong". No, that's not true, unlike what a majority of the community thinks, and that is certainly not what I wanted you to conclude of my repdowns. Most of your advice is technically right, but roughly half of your advice is either badly delivered, delivered at the wrong bot, or completely out of the context.

You need to THINK and READ THE THREAD before you post advice, or soon enough you will be unable to post in other showcases because of repeatedly giving bad advice.

i like the left one better, mainly because the wedge on the right one is useless.
btw, with only 2 Irons, that bot is going to get deweaponed by the next HS/VS/FS it meets, and you can shorten the extender used to hold the 1st motor by about 20cm, to make it more undercutty and give it more chance against spinners.

THE POINT OF THESE IS TO MAKE A MORE ORIGINAL DESIGN, NOT A MORE EFFICIENT ONE ! DO YOU NOT REALIZE WHAT "CONTEXT" MEANS OR DO YOU JUST BLITHELY IGNORE ALL THE POINTS I AM TRYING TO TEACH YOU ?

the vs looks nice and original if a bit underweaponed (of course 2 hpz would do that to you)
im not vs expert but i would try to get those stabilizers wider possibly in a angled V shape, atm they seem a bit narrow and it could possibly flop over onto its side first hs it meets

I know, I just don't see how :/ the extenders on the VS are needed for stability and the HS hardly uses any :/ (the iron spikes are out the front for stability and extra damage + protection.

I haven't built LW's in ages so I'm a bit rusty.

Why you need to ask for that? It's clearly angled HS.

It's a really really odd kind of blender robot. Great concept, not too sure about how it'll fare in an actual fight, though. Looks a bit too fragile for my liking, with all those extenders and so forth. A quick rammer or gutripper should take it out pretty quick, and a decent HS'll probably take those plows off pretty quickly too, leaving you dead in the water. Bonus points for originality, though.

Yep it's just a prototype I thought looked cool, I've been trying to make an Flail spinner for a little while... getting closer to combat worthy ones though.

Damn you have so many cool ideas, but you need to get out of the lighter weight classes and build MWs or HWs so your designs will actually perform well.
Title: Re: ianh05's lightweight and antweight specialist showcase!
Post by: ianh05 on August 28, 2012, 07:21:26 AM
Perhaps, I don't really have the patience for the heavier classes though :) I've only really built 3-4 decent HW's and probably only 1 decent MW. The LW isn't that bad though, it can beat SC v.4 alpha rammers such as drone.

The main flaw is that can't self-right because of the axles.

Thoughts? are the extenders to fragile to use like this? is the worth using fragile extenders for the extra 7kgs? will this setup be less, equal or more damaging?
Title: Re: ianh05's lightweight and antweight specialist showcase!

Gave the extender disc a better and lighter setup and got this Rammer/VS hybrid:

(https://gametechmods.com/uploads/images/24440Rammer VS LW hybrid.jpg)
6 razors, 4 irons, 1 single-sided ice pick, 1 nifty, plastic armour.

Only just lost first try against S4a TF, most important thing is the disc extender came out with all weapons still on. Got KO'd from chassis hits which should be easy to fix by angling the extenders with 2 razors up.

3x 20cm extenders= 6kgs
lightest disc = 15kgs
----------------------
Save 9kgs per disc!

I wonder why people don't use extenders instead of tribars/discs... I'll probably never use them again lol (except on chained spinners because of rule of 7).

Also balance.  At chained motor speeds, the slight asymmetry of the extender disc would cause the bot to shake like a baby that is being shaken.

Even at normal speeds, the imbalance may be enough to mess up wedges.

But since your VS has no wedge it should be fine.  Looks like a great design.  If you use 2 20cm extenders instead of 40's coming off the T connector though, you could put the 4 inner razors on the first 20cm extender (right next to the T connector) and save 4kg.

I really like the idea of putting interchangeable weapons on a bot, it should be done more often IMO.

Not interchangeable, just showing the weight saved by using extenders instead of a disc. You can save about 9kgs per disc :)

I'm still messing around with the design but it's pretty effective, I suggest people start experiment with using extenders on spinners as you'll have more weight to play with.

I beat a Robo Zone 2 entry (1 of the rammers) with it, obviously I can't show the bot yet. It's not AI'd as I'd just have to replace it for the AI pack (but it should still do well AI'd).

+Very damaging, grinds on the top of other antweights.
+Weapon takes very little damage so it lasts a long time.
+Wedge provides defense, stability and can lift other antweights into the weapon.

-Not invertible.

1 - A basic vertical spinner with a static razor for protection.
2 and 3 - Downward vertical spinners designed to hit the top of other antweights.
4 and 5 - Downward drills designed to grind on the top of other antweights.
All - 1 pink and plastic.

It actually does decent damage as a rammer(IIRC), it's meant to grind away on chassis' like a saw.

Free Hugs - isn't a new bot, a DHS with irons.
Prime Time - An attempt to make a Midnight style AW axle VS with 2 weapons.
Side Swipe - A rammer/HS hybrid where the axle HS is out to the side.
Assassin - An upgraded and re-named Pocket Watch, a decent AW VS with active weapon.

Now just imagine that line-up with Robo Zone 2 entries and Starcore AW's :)

Lower the HPZ so it does touch the ground instead of the irons, because weapons don't do any direct damage if they touch the ground.

I think it helps with knockback(if chained VS gets bots more airtime I see this being the case for HS) and gets more damage out of each iron. Perhaps I will do an AI test tonight and post results.

It's now more invertible but the drill is losing it's height so it'll be harder to drill on the top of bots and the drill extender is exposed.

I moved the axe up more and angled the axe down a bit, also a random extender to protect the main weapon extender.

Tripwire's wedge can usually outwedge all the other wedges in ultimate stock AW AI and Tripwire does more damage most of the time (no idea why). I don't think there's much of a problem getting flanked in the AW weight class due to most the bots being rammers so I think Tripwire is better.

First ever AW with an internal motor (not using AAM)? I've never seen one before so decided to make one  (https://gametechmods.com/uploads/images/7429AW - BushWhacker.jpg)
The motor rolls back into the chassis, a part of it sticks out the side but is mostly protected by the wheel. It also has some extender protection out the front :)

Nope, Axle loaded AW HS.

I was thinking about trying to get another pink in there in exchange for removing the extra extenders and downgrading the iron to a razor.

It does well until the chassis pancakes under the drill to an unreachable height lol. The iron is there mainly so it doesn't tip over but it also provides some protection and can help de-weapon other bots, not too sure if it'll do damage though.

BTW it has 1 pink not 2, made a typo lol.

Post by: ianh05 on March 15, 2013, 10:59:10 AM
NFX's AW chassis might be better, but some designs aren't possible with his XOR chassis. I think the fact that I restrict myself to building mostly AW's and have plenty of free time helps, people just need to stick to them and they'll start coming up with new designs.

Version VI needs some tweaking because it has trouble moving forward, if I fix it's movement problem it should be the better version. It was a tight contest in testing.

Don't blame me for winning, blame the voters  :p  and I may not enter the next one depending on how many entries I get. I'm running contests for AW's, BW's and either CW's or SHW's so that we can add more bots to Re-stocked.

That AW chassis looks much better than the 3 in the BotExchange.

If it's not a template chassis it should be used on some of my later AW uploads on the botexchange.

You should put the motor on like this:

Then you don't need a caster and you can add another pink.

Will post this here so I don't spam up Venko's showcase with pics of my own bots  ;)  Here is my AW chassis selection:

(https://gametechmods.com/uploads/images/15056My AW chassis selection.jpg)

The SnS chassis is rarely used and looks similar to Venko's chassis, I haven't tried to build an AW SnS in years.

The Main chassis I use is very compact and can just fit an anchor in the front, this is a great chassis for building AW's with lots of weapon weight. The main problem with my main chassis is I can't stack 2 pinks in the CB...

... so for bots I want to have 2+ pinks I have a variety of chassis to choose from, This chassis design is used in Unicorn from Robo Zone 2 (one of the team robo zone bots).

The dual axle chassis are also rarely used and were built with certain bots in mind. The top chassis is used on my stock mini bot, Mini - RPB which has proven very effective.

Other bots are OK, waiting for your PM...

Not sure if an AW is capable of a one-hit KO, either way it was more for Stock Mini's IIRC and I just wanted an AW with spinning irons on separate axles but it gets no use these days. Sent you a nice bot that uses the chassis, just remove one of the spinning razors to give you the weight for 1 pink.

As for a nifty ant, maybe later but I don't really see the point when I could just use 2 pinks.

Not my best, lacks front protection but the weapons are tough and capable of some nice hits. I had a couple of failed entries:

"Ninja Cat Claws" was designed to be an angled down top rammer that would attack the tops of other bots, I just couldn't get the balance right on the bot to match the higher ramming weapons.

"Throwing Star" was going to be sort of like a mini accident waiting to happen with an axle weapon (spinning vertically) dealing damage to the top of the other bot.

in order to make a 50kg robot with 1WD shiny + RAD, a single razor tip and 1 pink battery, you would have to have a chassis that weighs -1kg.
probably wouldnt work.

60kg seems like it would be the bare minimum for anything to be make, but im a bit doubtful

It's attached to a servo that spins the grinders around the front. It could be AI'd so that the grinder with the most weapons is front and centre all the time (kinda like how Thwartoise works) but I'm no AI wizard.

(https://gametechmods.com/uploads/images/57092Evo-bot complete.jpg)

All DSA, LW and MW have 1 nifty and the HW has 2 stacked blacks (overkill I know, I wanted 2 VS discs but that didn't work out).

HW is underweight but I couldn't get the weapons where I wanted them on the trapping arms so this will have to do for now.

The red wedges on the "Steel Violet" are pointed at 45, make them totally vertical (like on the MW one), or you won't be able to toss HSs in the air, they will just keep the HSs in front of your bot damaging it.

I'm OK with that, the brackets won't last long either way  :dumb)  then it'll be able to throw bots around.

I'm pretty sure you could find a way for a dual disc setup if you ditch the useless stuff like the ramplates and bracket wedges. I'll see if I could whip up a clone soon.

you'll need to change their names though since they aren't named pokemon-style :P

Pokemon-like as in a series of similar names, perhaps I need to re-word the rule.

Yay! finally got 16 different FlW's (Fleaweights), all have 1 pink and plastic unless stated otherwise. The difference between 10 and 16 is 10 has razors angled down and 16 has them pointed directly out.

7, 8 and 11 are SnS. 3 and 9 have caster armour.

Pretty sure fleaweights are one of ian's things
100 kg I'd guess?

100kgs or less, some can even beat AW's  :gawe: .

My Evo-bot MW in action, Anti-HS VS  :gawe: :(https://gametechmods.com/uploads/images/61146Iron Rose Battleshots.jpg)

New version, probably better but not tested yet:

This version should have less trouble getting bots into the VS weapon as the axes don't go as far out as the razors did and I have also lowered the VS weapon closer to the ground.

Very cool hybrid, although I think you should place these HS a bit backwards so they are less vulnerable. The HS's extenders are also pretty exposed if you lose your irons, maybe find weight to change them to maces and put them just next to the irons.

those hs weapons seem too heavy for a RAD to handle. try getting rid of those 6 irons and using the weight elsewhere.

RC = Rob Collins. Based on his BW and it's glitch where no air tank is required to fire the piston.

I'm not sure, that this glitch is new, also, we all know, that the pistons can fire without tanks, and the motors can spin without batteries. Basically, a "troll physics" game  :dumb)

It is new to my knowledge, I know trinity spinners don't need them but I don't recall any pokers not having air tanks and working before Rob's ARBBC BW.

do the pistons have any force behind them?
Well Rob's BW beat VB's BW with this type of poker so I would say so.

I know Servos don't need batteries, but I've never heard of spin motors without them.
Also, instead of a Mace, could 2 razors work any better?

...but I've never heard of spin motors without them...
If you tap fast the "spin" key, and they must not have anything on the axles, so it's pretty useless, not worth an attention.

Well, I have some kind of bots with pistons, that fired without any tanks, probably didn't showcase them. An art bots.

just use two anchors instead of an anchor+t-connector so you won't have to worry about losing your entire setup from a lucky hit.

Going back to the HW VS for a random second.....if you are going to use the tribar version, the tribars need to be undercutting. With no wedge, undercutting tribars will greatly aid you in getting under bots. Otherwise, the bot needs a wedge. Wedgeless bots at the HW level are at an automatic disadvantage unless you're stacked to the teeth with weapons (rammers, 36HS, etc.).

The least you could do is explain why. Is it exposed? Is it too weak? I personally liked the earlier one better, but that's because I liked the bear claws acting as stabilizers as well.

The redbird version has wider trapping arms so I had to downgrade from a Z-tek.

if you were to find a round connector setup that doesnt use Y-extenders you might be able to get a ztek, im thinking you could use 3 extenders on each side.

I do believe venko means that they have too much weapon weight on them.
*Venko shakes Naryar's hand*  Good stock knowledge!
Also, I generally think, that the RAD's main purpose is for a WD on LWs and MWs only (tribar with 3 razors is the maximum weight for a weapon on them), and the redbirds are a WD for slow HWs (HSes, max a tribar with 3 irons for a weapon). So the weapons, and the HWs drive must be generally on reg. Z-teks and HPs. You all forget, that the speed in this game means moar dmg, also the weight difference of the motors is not that much, and they all drain the same power  ;)

I would remove pickaxes and change them to irons, remove the static pickaxes and change razors to something better.

The icepicks will sux on that tribar in doing a respectable hits and DMG. Also, ditch one of the HPs for a moar/better weapons and stuff, 'cos the opponent will stop easily the spinning of the motors chained in that way. The weapon system (no matter with 1 or 2 HPs) is too exposed and vulnerable.

Thanks, I wanted to build a LW with dual "disc" weapons and decided the best way was to make the "disc" out of extenders and save a bunch of weight (like I did for my AW's). The bear claws should be ok, they are on the extenders that come out the furtherest and all spinning weapons make it past the ramming/protection razors.

Is it for Maximum Overkill?

Indeed, I wasn't satisfied with just sending old bots so I made this one to go along with them :P
