ianh05's Antweight Specialist Showcase!
« on: March 23, 2009, 07:32:52 AM »
I'm a big fan of lightweight, beetleweight and antweight robots, the weight limit makes them a challenge to build and come up with unique and effective designs.

NOTE: My AW's start showing up around page 6 and continue to improve the deeper into the showcase you go.

=======================
EDIT: Noob bots removed
=======================

Hall Of Fame:

Dinners Ready - Runner-up in Tag Team Challenge (with Amoeba Returns by R0B0SH4RK).
Fate - 3rd place in Around the World.
Ugly Duckling - Runner-up in CombatAnts 3.

========================================================
ANTWEIGHT PREVIEW

Here are some of my best/coolest AW's:

AW - Stone Tablet: A very strong, fast rammer with 26lbs/kgs(whatever system the game uses) of weaponry.

AW - Tumbleweed: A neat flailing hammer/slapper type bot with a protective razor that's also used for ramming.

AW - Tripwire: A really annoying AW wammer for opponents to face with it's nice wedge and great speed provided by it's 2 pinks. The 2 razor tips are there to deal damage to any bot it gets under.

AW - Toy Drumset 2: The sequal to the very first stock AW drum bot. A nice AW drum with only 1 pink, however that is enough power to get under and lift AW's.

AW - One-eyed Jack: A tough rammer/axle HS hybrid designed to ram bots with the razors and have the iron spike spin around and hit either side of the opposing bot.

AW - Downward Spiral: The first in the series of AW axle drills designed to rip away at the top of other AW's.

I would use a Snapper rather than a redbird as upward clamp on your second bot.

LW are very challenging to build : good weapons or good protection ? speed, exposed wheels, etc ?

btw, your bots seem to have a gravity center quiet high, haven't they go stability trouble ?

i make them all as stable as possible or make them able to self right or make them invertible.

the bottom one has no stability issues that i have run into, the top one can be improved.

Cool with the bottom one.. but that spike on the Redbird looks like one (weight) costly scrimech. Suppose there's another spike on the other end or something?

ummm... no? a snapper can't clamp. it hits. hes saying that the motor spins down and clamps.

its really the only way to clamp in stock ra2, but in my opinion still not very effective.
You got my vote for RA2 Wizard. Always and forever.

I mean just like a hammer with inverted start and end positions. Snapper starts in low position, you fire it upwards, and it clamps on the return swing.

No?

tried out the snapper idea and it really didn't help due to reach problems you have to be very precise when you fire the snapper and if you miss you gotta wait to fire again. with the redbird its attack is more frequent and precision isn't an issue.

i know it's no lightweight but here's a heavyweight that I'm trying to make better:

I'm no wedge expert as of yet, i get the feeling it should be longer though.. any ideas?

EMERGENCY wedges generally aren't that effective, and those snowplows that you're using to trap bots are probably a bit too close together.

i used emergency wedges cause they are bigger and provide more protection to the front of the chassis.. if i change to small wedges and extend the wedges out the front more i need to cover the extenders which on this bot is a problem as i have the snapper motors set on the sides.

I don't think the wedges will be effective it they are on the snappers that way.

P.S.- if you need to protect a extender on a wedge put a blade or a spike strip on it.

Also, I think that:
You shouldn't use the angle connectors, they waste weight.
The chained HPZs might be a bad idea, because I can easily see this bot as a grinder with the plows, and the HPZs slow down after one hit.
I built that big robot on that TV show that time

these weapons don't slow down after hitting the opponent that's for sure, once it touches your chassis it rips it up faster then the flash can walk down the street :P

more lightweight designs are underway.

so here's what i got:

open to any ideas on how to improve it. i was thinking downgrading the motors and trying to get a plow + a razor tip on the front..

remove that useless wedge and add more weapons.
Put this onto your signature if you were part of this crappy fad in '03.
