I really want to learn how to make good bots, so I'm starting a showcase of some bots that I've built.
Here's the first one.
(https://gametechmods.com/uploads/images/29932Foiled AGAIN.png)
DSA armor (and a nice aluminum foil paint job :P)
4 angle motors
3 HPZs
2 tribars
1 big volt battery
6 maces
4 ramplates
1 T connector
4 square extenders
4 shinys
4 plows
9 base plate anchors
The HPZ in the center is connected to the other two HPZs by a T connector and square extenders.
-
Build to the weight limit! :-)
-
2 tips: No Right angle drive on HWs, and never use square connectors. Ever.
-
Try to focus on having just one side for attacking.

What? SnS? FBS? Some HS as well.
Anyways, I really don't like giving generic critiques. Try not to have empty space, built to the weight limit, blah blah blah. I'll let others handle this.
-
With such bigg chassis's I can't see more than one side of attack being effective for him. I dont mean forever. Just until he becomes a better builder.

Don't tell him things like that. We are trying to make him a better builder, not give him bad advice until he becomes one.

Some tips that I will give you:
Try not to protect your components with the chassis. Aim to do the other way around. Protect the chassis with your components. Remember, in battle, if you lose a motor, extender, or wheel... your bot can still fight till the end. Take a few hits to a big chassis and your bot can be eliminated with everything attached. Try to make bots with as small a chassis as your skill can allow.
Protecting the top of the bot is a useless waste of parts. You will rarely encounter a hammer bot... Try to keep your chassis low and compact. Instead of throwing plows in places to protect the bot, try to focus more on weapons that protect the bot and damage as well. A well built horizontal spinning weapon can keep your enemies at bay better than a single plow. Plows are not sin however... at some point you can strike a nice balance between the two.

tip #1 Don't listen to main menu
tip #2 Build to the weight limit
tip #3 Consider some under castor armor (castors are invincible)
tip #4 Don't waste weight on top armor unless you often fight hammers, but I guess you should be ready for anything maybe...
btw: cool skin idea
-
well i took all ideas into consideration and tried to incorporate them into the bots that i make. here's two more...

wasn't able to skin this one the way that i wanted. :/
DSA
2 Z-teks
2 shinys
1 supervolt
2 HPZ's
2 ramplates
23 pole spikes
8 razors
11 maces
It has beaten many of the starcore 3 heavies, but it is weak in the back of the bot. and kinda slow.

eFFe glitch FTW
DSA
2 Z-teks
2 shinys
1 snapper-loaded HPZ
1 nifty battery
8 razors
2 maces
4 irons
2 pole spikes
It's a decent middleweight, but i think that it could be much better.
I wanted castor armor on both of these bots, but the weight restrictions kinda destroyed that idea.
-
Don't use pole spikes on spinners. They only hurt at the tip.
-
ok. never knew that.
-
You're better off with maces on both of them.
-
Great improvement from your first bot posted. More weapons = win.
-
More bots...

DSA
18 maces
6 snapper loaded HPZs
2 HPZs for drive
1 plow
1 supervolt
not too bad, I don't think.
(https://gametechmods.com/uploads/images/75050Insane Hurricane.png)
18 irons
3 snapper loaded HPZs
2 redbirds for drive :/
castor armor
1 supervolt
more eFFe glitch.
-
You still have weight left over on both bots. I think that the first one could benefit from a cleaner setup, and you can get 3 motors with two snappers on the second one. Try not to use redbirds on heavyweights. Other than that, I think they look decent.
-
2nd one = too sslllooooowww
-
For both it looks like you just built a random chassis and tried to make something out of it. Don't do that.
Unless that bot is called N00bot. Then it's ok.

I hope it's included in II AI. :D
Anyway, now that you've learned how to utilize the eFFe glitch, you should now learn how to use snapper loading. Sage's signature contains a video on how to do it. This technique makes your extender work much cleaner, which means more weapons. >=D

Looks like steady improvement. Awesome.
Next Step: Try to focus on making a really small chassis and build a bot with that. Try to shrink Insane Hurricane's chassis down to about 1/3 of the size it currently is, and build the same setup (without the redbirds because everyone seems to hate on them) Good work so far, I am really impressed with your progress.
