That bot is actually pretty good. What does it have for armor?
Too many air tanks

Post by: Hydro on August 27, 2008, 08:48:00 AM
steel armor. works like a charm. extra air tanks make me more confident because im less likely to run out of co2.

Ok, first of all. Do not use cheat parts: cannon, flamethrower, hover engiene and all downloaded parts.

Second, use DSA, Double Strnght Alunium, its as light as alunium but stronger than steel. To get it you must NOT go to the armor tab when you are making the chassis.

Third, make the chassis as small as possible.

Fourth, use as few pistons as possible and use extenders to add as many weapons as possible (example: See Spearhead my showcase (https://gametechmods.com/forums/showthread.php?t=728))

That should do it for now.

Dont forget to see other peoples showcases too, you can get ideas from them, but try not to clone anything.

Hydro,

If you are going to continue to post on this forum you need to control your posts. Do not unecessarily post (or double post in that manner!) and make sure your posts are organized posts, because your spamming soesnt help anybody.

amm, ok. what do u think of my bots?
Title: Hydro's Showcase
Post by: Sage on August 28, 2008, 12:32:29 AM
you didnt make the chassis as small as you could. try to use niftys or blacks instead of pink batts. you can raise the drive motors so you can use shiny hub wheels, which are lighter for some reason.

i have a new bot, and i really tried so go easy on the "harshocity" please.

hang on a second and i'll get an exterior picture uploaded

The most generic bot name ever.:|
Title: Hydro's Showcase
Post by: Hydro on August 28, 2008, 08:21:14 PM
ok, listen: im not good at making lightweights. my best bot ever was Spiker 3, which got me 4 golden sawblades. if you want me to make a heavyweight, i will. ok? and yes, that is a generic name but my brain hurts. and to whoever said to use less pistons and more weapons on extenders, what if a "wide load looses all of its spikes at once" scenario happens? i know  you are trying to help, but you may have overlooked that.
Title: Hydro's Showcase
Post by: kill343gs on August 28, 2008, 09:51:37 PM
This... "harshocity" as you have put it, is actually standard critique that we as builders give to everyone. If you don't want us to critique your bots then don't expect anybody to pay any attention to your showcase. The idea of a showcase is to be assisted in becoming a better builder, we all went through it. Don't think just because we tell you to do something means that we are mocking you in some way.

The reason wideload looses all its spikes at one time is because there aren't enough spikes to cover the area around them. Pistons are heavy, weapons and extenders are not and they take much less CO2.

Hydro...
When take a screenshot paste it in paint and go to 'save as' menu and when choosing where to save choose to save it as .JPG not as .bmp!
This pics are .bmp-s and this is not very recommended.
They loads a lot time this way.

Exactly, but that works for you too.

And, yeah, Venko's right, use JPG's because BMP's take a damn huge time to load. Well, save a previous BMP as a JPEG and have a look at the files size.

The piston bot is a very good design for the stock RA2, but just try to work on other bot designs. Maybe try a VS or something. Just remember the fundamentals:
1.Try as hard as you can to shrink the chassis
2.Always use HP Z-Teks when you can.
3.Put Shinies on the Z-Teks
4.You will soon be better, but it will not happen overnight. Just consistently try new designs and new, unexplored (for you) Ideas.

Last of all: Look on my showcase, as I have an almost clone of Spiker, for my first bot, that also won me many battles.

Well, yeah, try a VS. Or a popup.

thanks to all of you. the reason i use huge chassises is because, like my father, i like vehicles that are big and boxey, like old catalacs, buicks, and, for some reason, old dodge trucks. thats just the way i am. and when i said i got bored, i was talking about yesterday. and, uh, what is a vs? i dont understand.

this post will be edited later, with a new "just for fun" bot design.

ok. this is my "just for fun" bot. i named it plainly "Caltrans Snowplow"

note: the boxes on the front are supposed to be the windshield. i had to skip the engine compartment because i could not make it with this game. sorry.

note #2: tell me if you think fatboys would look more reallistic.

let me get the extierior pic

What do you mean by "just for fun"? Even SnowJob is better than this.

Ah and if you like huge chassis, and huge wheels, it's your choice. But good bots generally feature just the opposite.

by "just for fun" i mean im gonna build a bot for no reason based on nothing and not for combat. in other words, its for fun.

No way. The greatest hit is Nightmare getting one-hit-killed by Son of Whyachi. Although the SlamJob hit is a nice one.

For examples of VS, you have several of my bots, but most importantly all the mini-Makos in BBEANS 4.

I think that Hydro's saying that he's building bots just for the sake of seeing what he can build, and for non-tourney purposes. He's free to do so, of course.
I hope though, Hydro, that you'll also receive the constructive input of these guys and eventually move into refining your bots into super-efficient competitors too.  The Tourneys are allot of fun.

Mad's right, but as always smooth-tongued. (hiar, hiar, hiar)

I would say: These serious bots need SERIOUS improving. But every newbie does improve with the community's advice (look at Somebody and me). You definitely need to improve your bot building if you want to compete, but tourneys are really fun once into it.

Exactly! I am in 3 tourney's right now (BBEANS, Robot Rampage, RAW), and I have about no hope for BBEANS or Robot Rampage. (Thor will destroy all RAW competitors.)

yes, i do.

do you guys have a "ra2 term dictionary"? i could use it.

and just in case anybody wants to know, the "Caltrans Snowplow" HAULS ASS. its like lightning. only orange...

Pretty simple.... SKIP the armour tab when your making your chassis go from phase 1 to 2 then click components instead of "finished"

your on the long road of creativity... I think everyone who has ever played RA2 has probably made the bot with 16 pistons.. (you get the point) dont feel bad atleast you didn't get your balls busted as bad as I got mine about my SHWs... lols.

ok... I got bored and started checking ALOT of showcases... yours is the only one that continuously uses sh**ty motors.. and you constantly leave so much space between your parts you could fit another bot inside of it... I'm not trying to bash you but it almost seems like you are building bots just to see what kind of crap people are going to say about them (I mean negative OMG that sux comments) I've been on this forum for a whole... 3 weeks and have learned 2x more than what I already knew and my bots before I joined it were 10x better than what you are showcasing ( I mean effectiveness I didn't mean the "kool" suv robot you made...)

I will give what advice I think you MIGHT absorb.. use more weapons... if there is an atatchment that will accept something put something pokey or smashy there... learn to use the extenders properly... look at the extender before you place it on your bot rotate it in its preview window.. (you will see the green attatchment spots on them.. click them to use the extenders differently) you can make OVERLY effective bots w/o using glitches and cheats or even having to mod or script them into your will.

Just PLEASE build something that doesn't suck.
