Title: Horror's showcase
Post by: Horror on November 17, 2010, 01:00:59 PM
I made this robot about 2 and a half hours ago. it is a light weight flipper. it is called SuperLauncher3000. it is in the attachments.

Shocaseing - your doing it wrong.

Have you looked at other peoples?

We put ours as .jpg or .png images in posts, not .jpg's in attatchments.

I cant even see it, only the top half, did you trim?

You can see it if you click on the image, although yeah it's probably devouring bandwitch or whatever.

Anyway, about the bot:
Use square extenders instead of rounds, they have the same strength but the round ones are lighter.
A black is too much for a lightweight like that IIRC, just use a nifty.
Use shiny hub wheels whenever possible, they're lighter and basically the same as the other wheels.
Tighten up the chasis, and try to upgrade the drive.
You might also want to add some weaponry to that bot, even if it's just a few spikes it'll help a lot.

Ah, now i see it.

I can also see it flop forward when trying to flip a bot.
Make a longer chassis, or put the motor at the rear to stop this.

Also, needs damage potential.

You mean use rounds instead of squares right?

No, use round extenders instead of squares
A black is too much for a lightweight like that IIRC, just use a nifty.
NO, a supervolt is right
Use shiny hub wheels whenever possible, they're lighter and basically the same as the other wheels.
Yes, all wheels in stock have the same grip
Tighten up the chasis, and try to upgrade the drive.
No, redbirds are fine for a non-rammer lightweight
You might also want to add some weaponry to that bot, even if it's just a few spikes it'll help a lot.
Yeah, but flippers are useless in stock anyway, it still wouldn't win much

Don't give bad advice scorps, ok?

1) Erm, yeah grammar failure, i'm hardly going to tell him to swap his squares for squares an I?
2) I swear i've seen bots like this with only a nifty, I said IIRC because I was uncertain though so you are more likely to be right though.
3) Flippers may be rubbish in stock, but we should give advice for that bot, it's pointless if we basically just start telling him to redesign it as a HS now isn't it?

Yes, but we should also give the following advice: Do not make flippers in stock, they are rubbish.
For a half decent LW flipper though, take a look at this:

If he is against stock AI, flippers beat everything because none can self-right.

Yes, but he really should atleast get a copy of starcore,to see how to improve

@Horror: Get Starcore AI, probably v3, download it via the link on the front page

Which version did you download?
You really should be able to beat SOME of the bots on sc3, even in starcore, some are bad

We don't want him to stay on stock for too long do we though ;P
Anyway, yeah lesson learned for him, stock flippers are bad, starcore is good and I suck at giving out advice

I got the latest, but back then. I was all like  :gawe: and the bot with 3 things inside each other came at me like  :realmad( and i got all  :ouch: and lost

Stock flippers are bad.
Stock flippers generally do suck. Popups are the closest thing to flippers in Stock. Pyramid Scheme was built purely for lols value.

You can't take a random kid and tell him to get SCv3! When you do get starcore AI, get v1 first. But practice on the stock AI for a little while too.

Horror, if you wanna keep progressing as a builder just ignore the bickering and random off-topic chit-chat for now. ;)

Here are some sources of information you can count on when it comes to Stock building.

Beetlebros - This is basically effective bot building 101.
http://beetlebros.gametechmods.com/ra2techs.htm (http://beetlebros.gametechmods.com/ra2techs.htm)

Sage's Tutorials - This is a set of five video tutorials that will help you monumentally.
https://gametechmods.com/forums/index.php/topic,4512.0.html (https://gametechmods.com/forums/index.php/topic,4512.0.html)

Starcore AI - This is an AI pack that replaces the original AI opponents with far more difficult ones.  It may be a bit overwhelming to fight them at first, but you can draw some great information from the designs.

Also, anything either Sage (https://gametechmods.com/forums/index.php?action=profile;u=3076) or Clickbeetle (https://gametechmods.com/forums/index.php?action=profile;u=9) says is advice you can count on.

Agreed. all the people on here do not get along they will not all post helpful things but all the whole this a great community that will both test you and teach you. most people have the DSL total convertion pack for the game now but stock is a GREAT place to start. if you do get SC v3 dont hate yourself for not beating it right way. i have it and STILL cant beat most bot in it ( though i suck at stock) and iv been around more or less for a long time. for now take a look at the sites listed above and check other peoples showcases. and dont give up it gets better!!!!lol

If you trimmed the chassis down and reduced the number of batteries (Also using DSA), that could easily be a lightweight. The invertability was a nice idea though, but that can be done through using Shinies.

It's an improvement. Again, a few pointers to take note of, probably.

Pink batteries are almost never used on anything bigger than an AW (125kg and under). LW's tend to use Nifty batteries, and Middle and Heavyweight bots almost always use Supervolts. Also, one Supervolt is enough to power 4 HP Z-Tek Motors for 3 minutes, so you really only need one here.

The almost universal armour of choice is DSA, which you can get by ignoring the Armor tab completely. It's the same weight as aluminium, but is stronger than steel. The only alternative is Plastic if you want to keep weight down on a LW.

It's good that you've "burst enhanced" the weapon motor, which is a glitch that causes motors to spin faster than normal when placed on a burst motor. However, the extender work could be improved by attaching the extender to the side of the motor, rather than the back.

Just a few quick things to get going, maybe upgrady the drive to HP Z-Teks as well. Not terribly bad for a second bot, though.

Invertibility? Wha- oh. I did not notice that!!!!

??? Again, I did not know you could 'Burst Enhance' a motor. A put it there as i could move it and put batteries there.

If he gets starcore, he will see the way to get better, he can't with stock AI

The first thing he wants to do is try and beat EMERGENCY. Then move onto Starcore v1.0. Don't throw yourself in at the deep end, unless you're RedAce.
