CameraFan's Showcase
« on: September 04, 2012, 02:50:31 PM »
Made a showcase to get criticism and hopefully improve ;)

Sir Spikalot, my first decent bot:
DSA armour. Turns most things I throw at it apart from flippers into mince w/o the Starcore AI.
Of course, any feedback is appreciated.

this is a surprising common bot for new ppl to make, its not bad for a first bot
some feedback:
-dont put huge components on top of each other like that, try to get the chassis as flat as you can without compromising any of the components
-good that you know that alot of little spikes are better than one sledge
-you only need a nifty for this tops
-nice job building to the weight limit, most bots made my ppl new to ra2 tend to be severely underweight
-you might want to read some tips from here: http://beetlebros.gametechmods.com/tutorials.htm mainly the building techniques and component stats pages, some of it will be review but you will probably learn some new stuff too

hope you stick around on gtm, you could be a great builder soon
How you make Alarm Clock Pizza is:
Step 1: You buy an alarm clock from the store, and then you have to break it and put it in the sauce.
Step 2: Fold the sauce in 5 slices and put it in the dough.
Step 3: Paint the eggs with a pitcher of a clock showing what time you want to wake up and eat pizza for breakfast.
Step 4: Put the eggs in the dough.
Step 5: Make it flat into a round shape and draw the time you want on it.
Step 6: Put some old steel to prevent other peple from stealing it.
Step 7: Make it flat and cut into 60 slices 1 for each minute in 1 our.
Step 8: Put in the oven set the timer to 30048813.2884 seconds and put the temperature on 'Volcano' setting.
Step 9: If you think it is take to long, then get yor alarm clock and set it to now so that it will ring and you can take it out.
Step 10: Take it out uv the uvin wen it is redy and go to bed. In the morning eat pizza and also eat yor hands bi mistake.

That is very good for a first bot! But like Mr. A said you will want to move all of the upper components lower like to the back or front of the bot, similar to how I did it here:

it's... tall?

Apart from that pretty good for a first showcased bot, just make it shorter and invertible.

generally it's a good idea to not build your bot like a skyscraper.

Pretty good for a new member, I like how you know the best way to attach weapons, along with other basic stuff. As long as you listen to advice, you'll improve greatly.

Remade Sir Spikalot, now invertible and takes out EMERGENCY easily.
DSA obviously. What should I do with the leftover space and weight?

If you make smaller chassis, you would probably be able to use black battery.

You should download Ultimate Stock AI, it has a large amount of teams (149 teams) with some easy bots, some average bots and some really well built ones. At your Level you should be trying to beat most the old BBEANS MW's.

Even though that would be Overkill. 1 Nifty is sufficient for 2 HP Zteks, let along regular ones.

use [sic] black battery.
no.

all spin motors use 100 imput and a nifty has 400 output and sufficient enough electotal, heck he could use 2 pinks for this

and this bot is coming along good so far, you might be able to get hpz drive if the chassis is trimmed just a bit to get weight for it/have it fit

Yeah, I'd say the logical step is to get HPZ drive. Not sure how much heavier HPZ's are (haven't played Stock in a while) but I think they'd fit in that chassis (from a size point of view) if you move the air tanks forward and take the extender off the pistons - I'm pretty sure you could move the pistons to the front and attach the weapon rack directly onto it rather than using that intermediate extender.

He could get HP Z-Teks right now if he wanted to (Which is highly recommended).

Wakky Bob is right. The bot 14.4 kgs light, and HPs only weigh 5 kgs more. He could just use HPs and not have to change anything else.

HPZs are ever so slightly bigger.
Changed the Z-teks to HPZs. Had to put the pistons in an awkward place and sacrifice some spikes because of that, but god it's fast. Also seems to hit just as hard as Sir Spikalot II.
Don't know what to do with the spare weight.

You could make the weapon racks longer than the bot - in fact, this would prove good protection against anything trying to go up the side.

You can just use a nifty for this, and change the wheels to shinies, and you can put the piston between the air tanks for symetry. With the weight saved from a nifty and shinies, you can use maces because they have higer concussion, which means higher damage on rammers.

HPs are a wee bit longer.
