This is Orange Avenger 3 I hope its alright. It uses that double strength aluminium thing.

Build to the weight limit. You should reduce the weight to 400 by using shiny wheels, having only 2 blacks for batteries, using round extenders for the wedge and possibly shrinking the chassis. Not bad for a first stock bot!
-
Lol its no where near my first bot its my latest! if you want to see my first bot (first ever bot on RA2 ever) which I made like 2 years ago just ask its horrid though.
-
Better?
(https://gametechmods.com/uploads/images/7312OA3 updated.png)
-
Yeah, that looks a lot better. Can you show the extender setup on the burst motors, it looks pretty wasteful, you could remove some more weight to get smoke more extenders. THe chassis could be a little smaller too I think.
Is that 1 or 2 black batteries? This design really needs 2.
-
I cant fit anymore.
-
You need to stack the batteries. Sage made a tutorial video on all of the glitches that are used in stock.
-
Its fine with what its got infact its dam effective and long lasting!
-
just one black is fine for mw popups unless you're running like 4 ddts for weapons
-

What he means by stacking is literally stack the batteries. There's a glitch essentially allowing you to put the batteries (and other components, if you so desire) inside of each other to create more room in your bot for other components. Ideally, you'd want to have a smaller chassis if you were stacking. Although what you have seems fine to me.

Omega in Orange! OA3's big bro. yeah its nothing good but I was bored and tried to make something HEAVY. its complete with shrimech stick

You need more focus on what's useful:
-6WD is pretty much overkill, but it can work if you optimise everything else.
-That's too many batteries, 3 supervolts should be fine. Maybe learn how to stack.
-That srimech is useless. It probably hardly works, and you can just use your wedge motors to self-right.
-You need more weapons to get the damage in quickly.
-With a chassis that steep you'll need some front armour. It's probably too steep anyway.
-Your chassis could be made smaller.
My advice is too look at other showcases and see what other people did with popups. Then see what you think you can do differently.
-
Hey, that's not too bad!
Suggestions:
I don't think you need 6 Z-tecs, 4 should be fine.
You only need 2/3 black batteries, try to stack them
Remove the blue snapper, you don't need a srimech. Make sure the height of your bot is 6 notches above minimum, this will keep your bot invertible while giving just enough room for the green snappers
Try and get the wedges as far apart as possible
Improve your extender work regarding the weapon setup
What you did right:
Not a huge amount of empty space. If you follow my suggestions you'll have to shrink the chassis more though
Wedges look alright
Basic setup is there
Overall it's pretty's decent.

Scratchy the Snake!!!
-
It's very underweight. You can add 2 or 3 irons per tribar arm instead of 1. You can probably save some space as well by putting the weapon motors on snappers and then shrinking the chassis. Also, stack 2 blacks for this and get rid of the pinks. Then it'll be a decent bot!
-
I set up a poll!
-
Orange avenger isnt a terrible bot, but it needs more razors to cause damage faster and needs some sort of frontal protection or it will get ripped apart by other people's weapons when it tries to go under them.
-
To be competitive it would need to fit a weight limit, either 390-400 for a MW or 780-800 for a HW
-
Its an MW it weighs 393.5
-
My bad, was looking at the first pic
Yeah, looks pretty decent for a MW.
-
shame I cant challenge anyone with it no onewants to fight it.
-
Where did you get the idea that no-one wants to fight it?
-
ehh I think people don't want to go through the hassle of AI'ing it just look at the challenge board thread.
-
If you want to challenge someone I'm happy to host. Takes like 3 minutes to AI a bot.
-
Look the thing is no one wants to (I don't think) if I could pick it would be battledutchaman.

Post in the challenge thread and someone will come along.

I did and no one has replied since.

Quite a few of my bots are made for a good laugh. Like my BW Barry Scot's Killer Bot!

After a couple of minutes of testing, you should find out that it has terrible steering. Rammers love to have the drive as close to the middle as possible to for immediate response to steering input. Flip the drive around, and turn the pinks by 90 degrees and stack them (don't worry, pinks are one of the easiest components to stack). Then you can push the weapons closer to the middle.

would an emergency wedge on OA3 be better than the small one?
-
no
-
would an emergency wedge on OA3 be better than the small one?
People commonly say that Emergency Wedges are worse, but I believe that it depends how they are used. Don't just follow the mainstream opinion, it's like saying "Servos are useless now, we have Blue Snappers", yet those things are so unstable where Servos keep the entire thing more solid, try it out to see how it works and then decide.
Also, be more happy, noone dislikes you, you're a nice friendly user and your bots are good. So unless you want to talk yourself down for some reason, there's really no reason to be like that.
-
I probably wont even bother lol I don't think it would work anyways I mean look at how terribly it performed in its last tournament.

A terrible performance isn't always a bad thing.
Hopefully it helps highlight what you need to change in order to make it a better robot.
I think the weight played a big part in your design not succeeding, I mean look at Badgers pop-up in the very same tournament... What does it have that yours doesn't?
- More Wedges/Better Wedges
- More Drive
- More Armour
- More Spikes
All of which are easy enough to add to your design.
ALso regarding your question, just experiment a bit and see what happens. That's what I'm doing at the mo, just messing around, trying some new ideas out, the RA2 wiki is very old remember.

He's talking about OA3, the clusterbot, which I think is alright like that, maybe changing the extenders a bit so that more razors could be put on it. The other bot was unfinished from what I remember.

You are right, but there is a point on them being worse on average. on some of my wedge testing (https://gametechmods.com/forums/index.php?topic=18511.msg690043#msg690043) i feel like the wider the wedge is and the further you get away from the center of the hinge the worse it gets. Surface area actually hurts you the less hinges you have for your wedge. However I'm not sure why then something like a spike strip wouldn't be better than a small wedge, i'm guessing angle has a lot to do with it as well.

T o answer some questions:
1.MUSCLE CAR was never "unfinished" just ran out of space in the robot.
2. OA3 is its own robot just paired up as I wanted it to be and also if I did enter it as one as Badger says it was a joke entry
3.I actually cant be bothered to do the extenders on OA3 again.
4.MUSCLE CAR is stupid and will NEVER get re-built or upgraded.
I hope that clears it all up.
-
Interesting VS bud.
Couple of things:
- 2 Black Batts are more than enough to power this, so feel free to get rid of the pinks. A good rule of thumb is 1 black battery for every 4 HP zTek Motors you have.
- Don't use square extenders. They are the same strength as black/red ones but they weigh more. The exception is of course the 140cm one that only weighs 5kg, feel free to use that.
- The front wheel supports need more protection, if they go your bot losses all stability. More weight needs to be invested in securing them. You could also tidy up the extender work a bit. For example instead of using the T-connector at the bottom, why not try using a 2cm black extender and it's side attachment point?
How well does it perform?
-
I understand its awful and im not changing it I would rather just start off a new robot which would probably be just as bad lol. the Orange Avenger and its many sequels where a one off as its the only bot series I care about really and there terrible anyways lol. OA2 is entering Banter Wars series 2 so technically my first robot to compete in anything so I thought I would carry it on for Series 3 whilst the others are all throwaway pieces of scrap for a one off to test a design out and NONE OF MY ROBOTS SHOULD BE TAKEN SERIOUSLY! that's why I enter as a joke entry for any tournament when its allowed.

Thanks, I haven't seen that yet, only saw Click's old Mythbuster thread. No idea how it is in DSL with the hinges, wedge pieces and all that, but I can imagine that weight plays a big part as well. From what I remember Spike Strips are heavier than Emergency Wedges(which are heavier than normal ones), Spikes seem to work well(but the iron one is 10 kg as well), so maybe pole spikes?
Also you know how axles can glitch? I think something similar happens with the skirt wedges here, the further they are away, the more likely they will bend on impact.

yay another VS, it looks good but you really need front protection or those supports will be gone quick.

How well does it perform?
But are 2 Black Batts enough to power it the entire match without power loss? Would be interested in knowing more about this as I've heard that adding a 3rd battery makes burst motors stronger and allows zteks to spin faster?

You should really have more faith in your designs lol... We all make bots we're not pleased with from time to time. My latest design sucks balls.

But it can be, don't give up with it.

That's pretty much it. Cleaned up the thread because I don't want the whole page to look depressing.
Relax, you're doing fine. Not everyone can whip up a battle-worthy bot in less than 5 pages in a showcase. Take your time, wait for some advice, and rebuild. You will get it eventually. Nothing feels as good as finally having a good bot after countless rebuilds.
-
so yeah I think I better explain what happened on me vs RedAce... originally I was just going to enter OA3 but then I decided to start building a MW with either a drum (preferably) or maybe a pop-up I didn't really know at the time. I lost interest on it and got bored around halfway through the building stage as I thought it wasn't going to win anyways. here is what I had so far It is very crummy and unfinished. I also decided to give TA3 a longer stick for well I don't know...
-
That's more a VS than a drum. Drums usually have weapons on extenders placed on the dies of the disc, so the weapon motor is inside the ring of weapons. It has an ungodly amount of empty space too, which is why you're nearly at the weight limit with 1 black, redbirds and 4 maces (and blue snapper wedges)
-
needa hpz drive bro
-
I didn't know people would respond so much to something that isn't even finished so thanks but I thought badger hated me lol Anyways heres The big brother to IM NOT AT ALL SERIOUS! called IM A BIT MORE SERIOUS! why? I hear you ask. well why the hell not!
(https://gametechmods.com/uploads/images/2109IM A BIT MORE SERIOUS!.png)
-
You should only need 3 BAs for that setup. Saves a TON of weight for irons. Also, you can cut some chassis space by stacking the blackvolt.
-

This. You could save even more weight by putting all the ztecs onto a snapper, and shrinking the chassis even more.
-
Also, shinies are probably a better choice of wheel.
-
Also, shinies are probably a better choice of wheel.
If he mounts the Snapper2 upright for the wedge shinnies won't let him be invertible I don't think... I'm also a fan of making weapon racks, rather than having a separate baseplate extender for each iron on my rammers.
-

It will. There's a 6WD rammer in ASAI that has its drive on a snapper, it's invertible, as are 36HS with shinies and drive on a snapper.

Wow you guys are really taking this thing to seriously to the point where I can barely understand it lol. Like I have said time and time again I really don't care much for nearly all my older robots they just kind of sit on my computer not getting any treatment I may play about with them once or twice but that's it (unless its the Orange Avenger series). I really do appreciate all the advice and stuff but this one was just made in like 15 minutes as a jokey sequel to a Joke entry not something I put like an hour into designing and redoing like the OA series.
-
If you don't want advice don't post them. Showcases are for either showcasing interesting or excellent bots, or (for 95% of users, myself included) to gather advice on how to improve their bots. I'm not sure you understand what a joke bot is as well, lol.
It's OK if you don't understand, but please don't waste everyone's time by showcasing, let's be frank, sub-par bots, then refusing to accept advice.
-
if you are going to make a """"""joke""""" bot at least make it extra sh**ty or actually funny instead of some subpar rammer and then claim its a joke bot since you dont want to rebuild it bro
or at least say its a joke bot when you post it, that works too.
-
AYY LMAO Badger I get it you hate me lol ahahaha.
Now I could have worded it better im sorry (Now everyone is gonna go "YOU CANT JUST SAY THAT YOU GOIYT" lol) I meant it as like just a bit of fun creating a sequel to a robot I entered as a joke. now next robot I do I will try and get it upgraded from advice and stuff.

Its been a lot longer than 180 days...

You've probably (definitely) seen this in GTMCS 2 already but here it is anyway straight from the Kingdom Of Italy Cei-Rigotti, it flips out like hell and I'm as of yet unsure if it can last a full 3 minutes but eh
