Title: Boby's I Hate Stock Showcase
Post by: Bobyasianboy on November 22, 2015, 10:56:54 AM
First things first- **** stock. Anyone who plays stock is just a straight up masochist. That being said, help me improve my first stock bot.

DSA obviously, sitting a tad anaemic at 243.0

Nice, you can place the snapper II pointing away from the battery and attach the Ztek directly. You can do this by removing the battery, snapper load the motor and put the battery again, that´ll save weight.

Not quite. He'd have to remake the chassis for this.

@Boby- Bro stock is the best don't hate. Your bot isnt bad. Single motor LW HS has been run into the ground though. Generic tips would be to use a nifty (dont need a black), make the chassis micro, and attach everything to the snapper. That way you can get more weapons on.

I was mostly messing, though I think stock is my least favourite game type to build in because of how finicky it is. I'm not really sure what you mean by attach everything to the snapper. I appreciate the tips tho.

You know how you currently attached the drive motors to the chassis? If you learn snapper loading, you can easily put them on an extender coming off of the snapper, and then get rid of all that heavy chassis space. I have a bunch of video tutorials here https://gametechmods.com/forums/index.php?topic=4512.0 (https://gametechmods.com/forums/index.php?topic=4512.0)

Forgive the ignorance, I've got snapper loading down but I'm not sure on the set up I should be using to get all of the motors onto the snapper.

Forgive me if I'm wrong, since I haven't played stock in years, but couldn't you fit all the motors onto 1 blue snapper like so?

With black being the snapper, blue being RADs, red being extenders and green being z-tecs(I thought you were using 2 when I drew this, sorry)

Pretty much.

Anyway, sage is right. You only need a nifty, stack the cb in it for extra props.

you can't do it that way because the rads don't have an attachment point there.

You can't attach them from that back? Well that sucks. Still, you could just use 2 more extenders on the end to fix that.

waste of weight, there is better way to do it

There are a few ways to do it. I was gonna show you a few but I ended up just building a whole bot instead. Anyway, this is just to show you that it's possible, and how many more weapons you can fit on there if you build everything off the snapper.

With Sage's assistance, I essentially cloned his bot and made it is worse

I'll see about stacking the nifty into the control board some other time, spent enough time on this already today.

That looks quite nice. The necessary stack aside, you've pretty much figured it out.

It's still very unstable, though. :P

Steel, 320kg ish
It was nice to build a crap bot on purpose for once. I had to dig deep into my repressed memories to remember one of the first bots I built several years ago. Worried it might be too nooby for noob warz but then again...

it doesn't need an awful paint job when there's a weapon system like that

Trying to keep it close to the original design man. I'm pretty sure the original had DSA and no paint job at all.

12 razors
2 blacks

How do I spend more hours on it to improve it.

1. Front armour
2. WTF is that chassis layout. The back bit is just the CB and 2 anchors?
3. Probably don't need 6WD. Especially with only 2 blacks.

Don't waste too much time on the chassis for HWs! Those 10-20 kg saved won't be doing much unless you have something specifically needed which is usually for the final version

Looks pretty good; this is just my personal taste but I don't like the blue snapper wedges or the upward-firing DDTs. Don't know if the 6WD is part of the bot's identity, but as S_M said 4WD would be the more standard choice. The plows don't seem to be doing much since they don't even cover the wheels, but at this point a chassis rebuild would help a lot. If you want to snapper load, the back setup could be done with one blue snapper and a T-connector; otherwise you could at least mount the plows using the rear attachment point of the blue snapper rather than using chassis space for baseplate anchors. Again, frontal armour in exchange for weapons or drive would be good

nah weather it's 4WD or 6WD is mostly inconsequential on a HW popup. The main difference here is that he'll have less weaponry. Ditch the side plows though unless you plan on moving them further forward like so (https://wiki.gametechmods.com/index.php?title=Emerton).

The main thing you need to focus on with popups is size. No, not making it smaller. You need to make the chassis as large as you can and as shallow as you can. Basically you want to have a chassis something like this:
Don't worry about having your chassis exposed when you do this, since chassis HP scales with size. Larger chassis means you'll be able to use upward snapping burst motors easier, and they'll act as a srimech.

Right now you have 1600 output from the 2 black batteries, and the 3 DDTs are using 1500 of that 1600. Since spin motors are 100 each, 2 DDTs and 6 HPZ are 1600 exactly. I'd use either that or 3 snapper2's. Battery stats are located here (http://beetlebros.gametechmods.com/ra2stats.htm).

On the site you linked it says that DDTs use 312.5 input, instead of the 500 it says on the notepad, which makes the bot use 1550 or so of the 1600. Would it still be best to use 2 DDTs and use the weight for weapons or stick with 3 since it's under the max output?

Thanks for all the advice though guys, I appreciate it

I would do 2 DDTs, but it's a design choice. 3 of them do draw only 937.5 in total so the battery power is sufficient, though I can't speak on whether it will provide full power for more than 60 seconds or so.

I hesitate to tell you to switch to 2 DDTs and 4WD because it will end up looking like every other HW popup. It's about uniqueness vs. (proven) effectiveness

would probably be lighter if you'd just use anchors and, if you need them, extenders. also not sure you need those plows.

with 6WD it must overturn like crazy, so probably.

The extender setup for the drive is really inefficient as you only need 2 extenders/snapper arm to attach the drive.

Throw a pink somewhere and extend the wedges.
