hecko, im newbie here... and i wish you could give me some advice.. hehe

Team Oddbot - walker
well, this is not combat robot... and i think its pretty cool to build a walking bot.. or a robot without tires...

welcome to GTM

your walker is pretty cool, I played with such a design myself

to get you on your journey to building killer robots here is a site full of helpful tips to learn

http://beetlebros.gametechmods.com/ra2techs.htm

can we please see the inside view of the second robot ?

The second popup does look pretty decent for a newbie.

Don't forget to check other showcases for ideas and advice.

Can we also see the insides of the walker?

Welcome to the forums! :D

Not a newbie at all, given that you have already learned how to use most of the advanced building techniques.

Anyway, your walker's quite cool! Interesting setup and awesome movement. But since it's slightly underweight, try using DDTs instead of Snapper2s and it will probably be less tipsy. :P

As for your second bot (we call that a popup), it would fare better if it has a burst motor wedge (there's a link in JoeBlo's post, Basic Techniques section) and if it uses stronger motors and multiple light weapons.

And like Naryar said, browser other showcases for inspiration. :D

uh.. thanks !!... and actually, i played RA2 a lot at age 10 (i didnt remember, but it must be around 10 - 11)... then retired at age 12 XD... so im not a total newbie (now,my age is 15 DX)
and this is da inside view of the popup

i tried my best 4 the chassis, to make it as small as possible DX

the inside of walker is pretty simple...

Ah. Popup's not bad at all. Now rotate your drive by 90 degrees so the flat side is parallel to the ground. Then give it 2 more HPZs and use rubber wheels instead of Fatboys (don't worry, they can still touch the ground). And instead of using 6 Snapper2s, use 2 or 4 DDTs and attach 2 to 3 razors on each motor (you can do both of these by using the eFFe glitch, which is near the bottom of the Techniques page). And lastly, add a burst wedge so you can get under bots easier (and you can also self-right with that).

Oh, and I almost forgot - DSA (double strength aluminum) is the best armor available in the stock game. You can achieve this by building a chassis and skipping the armor tab. Twice the strength of aluminum for the same weight. :D
Title: Re: Ariqhad's showcase
Post by: ariqhad on December 12, 2009, 07:53:36 AM
okay! i'll try to add more hpz and burst wedge. and i' try replacing da snapper with ddt.  ps... actually the popup used 10 snapper, and its not possible to attach a wedge, its too heavy
Title: Re: Ariqhad's showcase
Post by: JoeBlo on December 12, 2009, 07:55:55 AM
you need to lighten the load to attach more things, you dont need that many snappers, try putting multiple weapons on 1 DDT to save weight
Title: Re: Ariqhad's showcase
Post by: ariqhad on December 12, 2009, 08:27:16 AM
oh. okay! at first, i think that if i add more snapper, it will increase the attack DX. but maybe that was wrong.. -_-''

Hmm.

To take a screenshot in game, press f11. Right now it looks like you are doing something else. When you take a screenshot with f11, it goes to C:/program files/infogrames/Robot Arena 2/screenshots.

Please upload them using the image uploader on this site (found on the front page), but before you do can you crop the image so we only see the bot and not the bot lab? We all know what the bot lab looks like. And save it as a JPG because it loads a lot faster.

it would be cool if you used the boxers gloves for the walker  ;)

download the AI parts from my site www.robotarena.info (http://www.robotarena.info) they are legel for use in any stock robot

This popup is definitely better. Can you tell us the weight?

Try to put the wedges on a burst motor, because they seem to do a lot better than a static wedge like the one you have. Good job stacking everything together, it looks cool. But 88 kgs is a lot to spend on just stacking motors.
Title: Re: Ariqhad's showcase
Post by: ariqhad on December 12, 2009, 09:55:21 PM
ummm.. hehehhe the weight is 796.6....

... and then, this is the third version... and the best bot of mine..... ^^

Post by: JoeBlo on December 13, 2009, 01:16:30 AM
nice work on how shallow the wedge is

make sure those wedges are even

my only suggestion is maybe use razors instead of irons and try and stack in another 2 black batts (since im assuming there is only 2)

might be tricky but you would have a good robot on your hands if you managed it

with the extra weight maybe even a second set of HPZ drive on it ?

make sure you keep a copy of the original though  ;)

Actually, popups can work well enough with just 2 Supervolts, but seeing how it has more than 2 DDTs, I would go for 3.

And has anyone told you to get Starcore 4 alpha?  It would also help you to improve.

hahahaha, i love this version.... but its not as springy as its predecessor...

then, this..
DontCare MK III.V
i cant stack another batt, because its too heavy...
now it spend only 66 kgs for stacking the ddt and hpzmotor....

maybe this will be the final version...

Rotate the drive motors 90 degrees and it'l move around better. :D

Also, if you do get that black stacked, remove the pinks and add more razors (but the the extender-to-extender fashion, not the Y-connector attachment). :D

the plows would be a load more useful as side protection

shrinking some space might be useful too
Title: Re: Ariqhad's showcase
Post by: Pwnator on December 15, 2009, 02:41:28 AM
Good job on the eFFeing. One supervolt is enough to power 4 HPZs, so just remove one and shrink the chassis. Also, rammers and its hybrids should be invertible, so remove the plows and add wedges (since most of the HW types use wedges). And again, rotate the drive motors 90 degrees so the flat side is parallel to the ground. Then swap the grannies to rubbers and you can use the extra weight to increase the weapon count or upgrade the weapons (irons or 12-kg axes). :D

You're having a drifting problem because the collision meshes of the drive don't line up with the ground. Rotate the drive motors 90 degrees so that the flat side is facing the ground.

As for Scrap #12, you'll find that adding a front and a rear stabilizer changes everything. :D

Z-Teks are hexagons so you need the flat side to face the ground, as the pointed side will make contact with the ground and drift the robot

Chassis is a bit big, but looks good. I think it would be better to have a smaller chassis with stacked blacks so you might have some extra weight to maybe protect the front HP Z-Teks.

Btw, if you fix that humanoid bot, you can enter in BotM with it.

If by "fixing" you mean make it better looking or more aesthetically pleasing, that's ok but there's no need to give it better walking capabilities. I think BOTM is more about a bot/splash that pleases the eye, not if it works. At least that's how I think. In the 2 BOTMs I participated in my bots didn't actually work .

Holy crap! A bipedal bot! I've tried so many times to make one! I was only successful with four legged walkers.
Nicely done!
and i've always tried to make 4 legged bot, and it always ended with failure lol

Really?! That's odd... 4+ legged bots are more stable thus easier to make, imo.

Here m8, take a peek at my first walker

ooooh i've never tried that kind of design
maybe that's because i always make springy and jumpy walker with long limbs.... sure it could jump, but it flipped to the side afterward, ugh
and with 4 legs it is harder to make it jump to the front, the least i could do is jumping on the spot without falling over

Decided to lurk your showcase.
After 4-ish years, you came back, and are still as amazing as ever.
That walker is likely my favorite design of yours.

the wheel act as a stabilizer and useful for turning the bot to the left and to the right.
it couldn't be used for driving at all, and that's not the reason i put the wheel there anyway.

This would happen if i tried to drive forward

.... I couldn't meet the deadline for next month's BOTM... maybe better luck next time

Very nice, I think I'll have a go at making a walker now.

While it looks pretty cool, it is also unstable and heavy. i plan to remake the whole bot ('-'

763.5.... underweight aaagghh
i should have used Hp z-tek instead of those normal z-tek for the drive motor... i screwed up....

p.s. Stacking is.... so hard ('-'

That, and it should be 4WD HPZ (you could afford it by turning most if not all of the maces to razors). Also, turn your Snapper2s around so the wedge stance is wider.

Using a razors in this case is "a must".
Yeah, make the wedges wider, but also rotate the plows from /^\ to \^/
Make it a 4WD with HPs.
If you have any weight left, put some more front protection, add static ramplates on anchors in the front in the addition to the current one, or spam the front with b. casters.
Consider adding a plow in the back to keep your enemy on your bot, like in NWB and RPB.
