Title: We should use rep over likes
Post by: superbot13 on June 18, 2018, 03:58:33 PM: I think we should use the reputation system instead of the like system. We should let more people rep and put a system in place to punish people who abuse it.

Ok so here are some flaws with that.

Say you have zero rep. When you get -1 or just 1 it means something as reputation you need to get from doing something that needs to be punished or rewarded. When you look at sounds rep you think oh well if they have -1that shows that they have had issues and I should be wary of them.

With this system your suggestion you would get rep points with likes. So likes are pretty easy to get in comparison to rep as anyone can give them out people like things based on specific posts rather than that persons behaviour overall. This makes it so there is a high lickley hood that anyone would get a high rep. Now say if you did something bad. I assume your trying to say that they should be punished by taking points way a like the system now. The issue with that is that if you have that many rep points/likes you won't look like you have done anything wrong it just looks like you have less likes. My issue with that is that rep points can sort of tell you about the users behaviour but if it's covered up with lots of likes then it won't matter people can't judge who you are.

Tbh I dot think either are than important but combining the 2 is a horrible idea

Post by: Dreamcast on June 18, 2018, 04:33:00 PM: Rep is useless as a reputation gauge. Just lurk and look at people's real reputations. Example, over the past few years Sage is at around 10, while most of his peers like a Virus Bomb or Kill (who's no longer a peer, but was) have been at 20.

If someone wants to know if somebody is important or not, they should lurk a bit.

Edit: The same thing will happen with likes btw.
