Title: Can't post
Post by: Sage on February 16, 2013, 05:54:20 PM
Session timed out error. Inf getting it too

I deleted my cookies and then relogged, but set my session from "Forever" to "1 hour."

Perhaps there's something wrong with the forever setting.

Seems to work.

I got the error as well, but clearing cookies and relogging worked for me, even on the forever setting.

Over the past 1-2 weeks I've had to clear my cache and cookies about 20-30 times and still get the session time out error while the clearing of cache and cookies has only allowed me to post a few times. Sometimes I can post, other times I can't and I can only usually post once before it decides to session time out on me again...which means I have to repeat the same annoying process.

Surely I'm not the only person still effected by this? I'm using google chrome, I login for 60 minutes or less, I have used the actual login page the last few times and still get the problem. This is becoming very frustrating and I see no updates on the situation anywhere.

It's weird that I never have this problem, and I'm using chrome.

Me too; I do Chrome and Forever and have no problems.

The reason why you haven't seen any other people complaining about it is because I keep getting emails and PMs from them. It is also happening less frequently to me so it is getting harder to tell if my changes are making things better.

I've turned off the member info block for the home page (a likely culprit) and I am continuing to search for other solutions to this problem. If this is the issue, you may receive one more session timeout before it works without any problems again.

The temp fix is to close out of all tabs related to GTM and clear all your cookies. Your browser may not clear the cookies if they are being used. I have tried this on more than 10 different devices using a multitude of browsers with a 100% success rate.

Also, it should be noted that it is a problem with the forum's cookie being read improperly. That means that the chatbox will not work for people experiencing this issue but the wiki will. I'll be updating the forum software after I have a complete handle of what has been modified. An ill timed update may lead to even bigger issues.

I ask that you be patient as this issue gets resolved ASAP.

It's been working fine for me since the fix, but I have noticed some people not posting like INF.

It's been working fine for me ever since I accidently tried to post when my session really did end and that sort of reset the whole thing, I guess.

The only way that I have managed to replicate this error is by logging in with the SMF theme. I've disabled it for now just to see if it helps to alleviate the issue. Let me know if anyone continues to experience this issue after wiping the cache once more.

Edit: NVM, it is still there but it is harder to get the error with it off. You have to log out then in again to see it.

Make that a third time lot of times. Probably the reason for the lack of posts lately.

In that case, I'll update the software on Wednesday. I've been anticipating a forum update for quite some time and I think I have a handle on all/most of your mods.

I suspect that it will be better after the update because I think updating the PHP version for the wiki caused the issue in the first place.
