I've been thinking about this for a while and might have bugged ACAMS about it before but why isn't there a user group for IRL robot builders?

I've been thinking about this for a while and might have bugged ACAMS about it before but why isn't there a user group for IRL robot builders?
'cause...
I honestly don't know why.
-
It's not really a major group on the boards, though, is it? The only ones I can think of off the top of my head are you, Vertigo and Mike. The forum is an RA2 forum, primarily, IRL Robotics does take a back seat here.

Vertigo
MikeNCR
formerly Clickbeetle

Stagfish (if we count non-competition bots)
Thats all I got.

I used a fairly loose criteria, but everyone listed could be counted
-
why isn't there a user group for IRL robot builders?
RA2 is much more fun than real bots......and you can fight in your underwear!
If the real builders want to be in a builders group, we can consider it as it will not be that much work on my part.
Post here if you do, but you will have to think of a short group name, color, and I INSIST that the group members post a request in a builders thread I will start after details are worked out.
-
I feel so left out...
I also build some combat robots. However, I am pretty neutral on the user group idea.

...
-
I do too.
-
They deserve a group. Especially since IRL robotics is likely what brought most, if not all of us to play RA2 in the first place.
Do it or I'll post in Crimson : D

^ POST OF THE YEAR ^
Well the user group for IRL robot builders would be bigger then Spiderweight or the Heavy Poster gruop SB used to have
Also the IRL Builders list is larger then the limited user list.. and that would count for something :P
but not all IRL builders (including me) would get the title due to already having one..
-
Why is not multi titles supported?

I see, fair enough.

Joe, the Advanced Moderating Superheavyweight Tourney Host of Doom!

On second thought I like that.. lets have ACAMS make that user group for me

I used a fairly loose criteria, but everyone listed could be counted
We should have a criteria though, like they must have made a Feather/Raptor, or atleast a Kilobot (Beetleweight), or an Ant that has had some form of success
To stop people who have made a so-called robot out of their lego box :P

OK, suggestions:
Name: Roboteer, or IRL Roboteer
Colour: Umm, green maybe?
-
I think the criteria should be a active buildersdb profile or whatever you UK guys use for event registration to prove that you are a builder. Or it could be as simple as submitting a picture of a bot with you forum username in the picture to prove it's your bot.
As for names a guess IRL roboteer or IRL builder works and green would be fine as the title color.
-

Look at the roaming robots database and you'll see why that won't work :P
-
IRL in the title sounds silly..
Just Roboteer or Builder would be my vote..

I will decide the criteria.......you guys just worry about the things I requested.

Now that I look at both Joe's right. (again :P) The IRL part does sound silly.
-
Yeah, Roboteer, or at most True Roboteer is enough for the title.
I also don't think we have used Steel Blue for a title yet, its as good a choice as Spring Green.
-
Green is for berfdays.
-
How about Steel Blue?
-
RA2 is much more fun than real bots......and you can fight in your underwear!
... how exactly is this any different from real life?
-
IRL they make you put on pants for tournaments.
IRL I can't just throw parts together and hope it works.
IRL, mistakes cost money to fix, here we have a delete button.
-

Blue is used by Mods, Green for birthdays
since Barbie isnt around Pink is free for you builders :P
-
I want pink. ^_^
-
I have about decided on everything, except whether the REAL builders really want it.

I could be put in that list, though i havent actually started mine yet

We have to cut a line somewhere
I don't mean to put anyone down here, I encourage anyone trying to build robots, as we need as many roboteers as we can get. However, I'm not sure you can call yourself a "proper"roboteer by building something like this:
(https://gametechmods.com/uploads/images/46535Scutlet V3.png)
We need some sort of criteria, as in building atleast a FW, or an AW that has had some form of success in combat (as in 1st, 2nd or 3rd in a compotition)
Like I say, please don't take this the wrong way, but we will have to draw the line somewhere, or else we'd have 20 or so "Roboteer" members, when there definently aren't that many
-
I would just say that it should have been in a competition or reach an undefined level of win (like Joe's bots)
-
If I were to put down a list of people I would judge to deserve the roboteer title, then they should be as follows:
Me (C'mon, Explosion just became second best FW in the UK yesterday :P)
MikeNCR (Could have a choice wether to keep Veteran or cahnge to roboteer?)
SKBT
WhammettNuht
zipdragon64
JoeBlo (Although he would keep moderator title I assume :P)
I personally would leave it at that
Mostly because I think the "Roboteers", should be people who do attend events regularly, not just a one off. They should be regular members of the forum IMO (not much point giving it to greenbot), and should also be respected as a forum member
Please don't take this the wrong way, as I said before, but we need to draw the line somewhere
-
And haz, IMHO.
-
Ah yes, of course
-
or reach an undefined level of win (like Joe's bots)
:gawe: Thanks..
Real Life Artbots are awesomez
Actually now that I finished pouring some hefty $$ into my R/C cars I have some new plans for my robots..
JoeBlo (Although he would keep moderator title I assume :P)
Its not a case of wanting to keep my title.. its that I have to remain a moderator to keep you lot in line :P
-
Indeed you do! Without you and kill we'd commit Arson no doubt.
I vote that Joe gets custom class somehow combining the words moderation and robotics. (like Modded Robotics, except something cooler)
-
Joe, the Advanced Moderating Superheavyweight Tourney Host of Doom!
^ Or This ^ :P
-
No, it has to be at least 20% cooler then that... I'm certain ACAMS would think of something worthy of you ;)
Best of luck on getting this title.
-
How about, Moderating Roboteer?
-
House Robot. :gawe:
-
THANKS!!!
You just named ALL moderators.
Now come up with something cool for Admin (You guys already get a weight class)
How about real bot builders can have a Custom Title....and put what ever they want in it.
-
THANKS!!!

Something like 'Judge' or something? like the panel judges?

Whats wrong with admin?
I'm confused now, are we getting a "Roboteer" title or not?
-
I can create a group and give real builders a badge, or allow Custom Titles and you put whatever you want.
Either way, I have to create a new usergroup.

I'd rather the first TBH, but thats just my oppinion

Admins.. err... Floor Flipper ? :P

Admins = Arena Master or Event Organiser

OR we could be really lame like a forum made by a 12 year old and assign different classes the names of bots.

nooo... im pretty sure you missing the point of what ACAMS was asking for..

Refbot!

WINNAR :P

TESTING!
-
I'd lean toward the uniform Roboteer title.
-
So you guys want "Roboteer" as your group name?
-
That's what I'd vote.
Not sure which of the remaining colors would work best, but brown and maroon both would probably work well.
-
I was thinking of brown
-
I think Teal would work well.
-
Brown and Roboteer will be good.
-

Whoa! and there it is. Congrats on the promotion SKBT.

Oh and ACAMS my name doesn't show up brown in the who's online section. Is this intentional because the Advanced Users and Admins names show up in different colors.
-
well It is probably brown, just can't tell.
-
Congrats on the new user group; Wear it proudly!
-
Vertigo isn't a roboteer yet. D:
An IMO Admins should be Sir Killalots.
-

Thanks ACAMS :D
Just one thing:
Not that it really matters, but shouldn't my name be brown?

Shouldn't all Roboteers'? None of them are *nods*
-
Sorry to pester, but wouldn't it be better to change the colour back to what it was?
Its pretty much exactly the same as technical advisor now :/
EDIT: Well it isn't actually the same, but it looks the same on the Who's Online box, etc.
-
There are 5 basic colors......white, black, blue, yellow, and red
White is a main forum color, black is regular text and normal members.... Blue is Moderator and Red is admin. (unless you use the dark theme, then just opposite)
Any other color is just a variation, or mixture of the basic colors.....there is not much I can do.

Ah, OK then
-
I thought the colours were quite similar as well. Maybe a sea green or teal colour would be more distinct, but if it can't be changed, then I guess that's okay.

Teal might've worked well actually
