trim your weapon shaft, that much excess is going to get bent super easily
That's another thing we were planning to do with the drum next time we take it apart

I'm very late on this but I wanted to give some updates on SMIDSY as well as talk about how the event in Manchester went.

So as previously mentioned SMIDSY went to Manchester back in April. We finally got SMIDSY running even if it did still have some drive issues. We fought a total of 2 fights with 1 we had to pull out of. This wad still exciting for us and even getting SMIDSY to work is an accomplishment.

Our first fight was against Fenrir a wedge bot built by the Chimeta team. We knew we were going to lose this fight as the wedge of Fenrir was going to have an easy job getting under us. I tried to go for the sides of Fenrir where they had parts sticking out to help it not get stuck on it's end. Unfortunately we were too slow in trying to get round to the side and Fenrir just turned around to get us wedged up again. We lost the weapon quite early on as the weld on the pulley broke. We eventually died due to the removable link bring knocked out. The house robot picked us up at the end bending the poly carb but luckily that didn't hinder us for the rest of the day.

SMIDSY during the fight

So we were out of the competition rounds but luckly we had 2 more whiteboard matches. Before these we made some quick repairs as well as charging the battery. Due to the weapon puppy breaking during the first fight we switched it to a new motor entirely. Our next planned fight was against crackers n smash and Eric. Unfortunately while being loaded up we noticed SM IDSY's drive was not working. It was twitching but no movement. We backed out and took it apart and we found.A GLOVE some idiot (probably me) left a glove inside the robot and it got tangled in the drive. We were eventually able to pick it our and the VIPs got a kick out of out struggles.

SMIDSY before we pulled out

Our final fight was against 2point0 and Lunatic.
Spoiler alert didn't go well for us. Our battery charger was bust form some unknown reason. This meant out batteries were not fully charged for the fight causing us too die quite early on in the fight. We were picked up by the house robot again bending the poly carb even more but it was yet another attack that did not effect us. And with that we were finished for the weekend.

It despite being an unsuccessful event was still lots of fun. We sustained little secret damage from the event and I got too meet the builder of Orc Wars's Slapshot with his HW Dead Bod.

Glove entanglement When?
As for the second piece of news which is a little sad at least for the team.

Dave Smith founder of Ace robotics, has decided too retire from building robots. We appreciate all he has done for us. He has made my dream of being involved in robot combat by letting me have SMIDSY and we wish the best for him.

As previously mentioned SMIDSY in it's current state has got many issues specifically to do with the drive although we were able to get it working after we took it apart for repairs after the event. We plan to get new weaponry soon although it will be basic. Going for a series 7 style wedge.

We have another event coming up this year and we hope too share some more about that event when it comes around :)

I'm glad to hear that your team manged to sort out some of the drive issues with SMIDSY. It's a shame that SMIDSY did have a few mechanical faults such its safety link being removed, battery problems and out of all issues, a glove getting stuck in your bot. But it sounds like you still had a good time regardless of what was the outcome.

I'm glad your team fixed Smidsy's drive. That's one of those "it finally works" moments. Good luck with the new weapon!

Are you sure this isn't your bot? Because this was the Smidsy that competed in Robot Wars.

Not Pokebro, but basically from what I can recall, after RW, SMIDSY got sold to few teams, with Pokebro's RL team being the most recent and current owner of SMIDSY. SMIDSY also got modified to have a drum now instead of it's original weapon

Its not his bot. Basically S.M.I.D.S.Y was sold after its appearance in Techno Games

...so it sounds like- Yes, the bot you have competed in RW, but you bought it, and compete in a different tournament with it...

OK write up time

So a while back on the 10th of November we took SMIDSY to to Cheltenham to compete at extreme robots.
We took part in some competition fights and one whiteboard matche.

Match1
vs Donald Thump
In our first competition match we fought against Donald Thump and as to be expected it wasn't great. We agreed that we will both spin up our weapons before attacking just because we thought it would look cool I dunno  :dumb) we clashed weapons a couple of times eventually resulting in our weapon belt falling off although this hardly mattered as Thumps weapon stopped shortly after. It was a small pushing match after a while but after we got pushed into a wall Thumps link came out meaning it was immobile but because we were low on battery we did not have enough battery to push Thump meaning we were both immobile and sent to the judges which gave it to Thump.
The drum took a bit of damage it wasn't enough to mean anything.

Match2
Losers Melee
I dont remember who exactly was in the fight and cant be bothered to find out since im too lazy  :dumb)
In the fight we werent running perfectly as one of our batteries had not charged. All we really did in the fight was hit St.Ripper with our drum a bit and get wedged by TR3 which was a little
pathetic but oh well. That was the end of our competition matches but we came out with minimal damage.
Whiteboard Match
vs Tauron and Apex
The plan for this fight was to make it a team match. We were supposed to go in with Deadlock and Cyclone but neither were available meaning we were kinda left on our own and errrrrrr,
Ill let the video speak for itself

yeah. So what did we lose?
.The drums supports have been destroyed.
.A wheel rim is bent out of shape.
.The frame was bent.
.One side pannel came off and didnt take damage but the frame that it held it was too bent to put it back on.
.One of the Motors is dmaged badly like really badly.
The fight as seen went alright as we get a few hits on tauron and was able to keep him in the corner but we werent able to hold onto him for that long and so we just kept getting hit by Tauron until we ran out of battery life. The battery life seems to be a common issue in these fights huh  :really_makes_you_think:
So whats left to do with SMIDSY? I dunno we have already sorted a pile of thing we can salvage but we dont know what were actually gonna do with it.
Oh well.
Here are the pictures of the mess.

Yow. that reminds me of when Tombstone obliterated Counter Revolution.

You might as well try a rebuild with that much damage...
