Made a rough model for the scoop from two plywood supports and an old sheet of aluminium.
Pretty much just a 5 minute job to see if it would work and how easy/hard it would be. Gonna go do some CAD.

Is that a paperclip holding the weapon on?

Yes.

The combination lock isn't the weapon, I don't have the weapon yet but it would look stupid without something there so I put it on. Only there for a visual aid.

Are you gonna make it interchangeable or the spike on the back and scoop on the front?

They are interchangeable. The chain attaches to a wedge hole on each side and the spike goes in the middle.

Looks good for a modified kit. I'd be worried about the wood but after Johnny 2x4 anything's possible.

Good luck wherever you're competing next.

It's a non-spinner event, and judging by the last two years I'm going to be the only one there. The wedge was surprisingly secure and sturdy, but I decided to ram a thick dowel through just to make sure.

Might take some videos on Thursday. Maybe tomorrow if I can be bothered to go in and get it.

It's not just the spinners you gotta worry about, if people do turn up. Some of the FW axes are vicious.

this, also you'll get stuck on that chain

What's the ground clearance on that? You don't wanna get stuck every 5 seconds.

Fair enough, I did get mauled by Little Hitter.

Ground clearance with the wedge on is practically zero.

Without the wedge it depends. The two paddles at the front are raised higher than the base of the chassis.

I can't find any threads about it in the Rules and Safety section of the FRA, and nobody has said anything about it. The guy that does Robots Live didn't say anything when I told him.

So yeah, I would imagine they are legal, I don't see why they wouldn't be apart from maybe entanglement.

So I got the cradle made in about 20 minutes today, it's only an MDF base and pine (probably) for the handles. I'm taking it back to school on Tuesday so reinforce it before the MDF gives way.

Also after a few spin ups and broken links I have got the flail weapon done.

As long as you have a decent gc at the back, iirc you'll be fine. though you'll get stuck on the chain.

Driving it around the workshop today I always drive it backwards so the chain trails behind me so I can whip it out and round (hohoho) to attack. It will drive over the chain if it goes forward but it is just as easy to get off (tee hee) if I drive it backwards again.

First picture taken 17th June 2012, second picure taken 27th May 2014.

So after the untimely demise of Stratos (rimp in pieces) almost two years ago I decided that it was finally time to get something done. Taken the chassis completely to bits so I can draw up some CAD models which hopefully can be produced elsewhere. Also I need to try and find a place to buy a new Sabretooth V1.03 circuit board to replace my old broken one.
