Looks really nice, the weapon motor doesn't sound particularly happy during spin up though.

That poor thing, next time take some wood or metal box as testing object. Does look nice and the spinner reminds me a lot of Witch Doctor from Battlebots 2015.

Haha it was broken, no worries!

Looks real nice man. Hoping it does well for your project and in combat!
What motor are you running the disc on/what reduction, out of curiosity?

NTM Prop Drive 50/60 380kv from hobbyking, theoretically at 8000RPM but I don't trust that due  to the noise. 2.5/3.0 reduction which was all I could fit for Pulleys basically. Motor is annoying also because the shaft is totally smooth. The noise sketches me out as well but it's hard to tell if it's bearings, motor, or wind. The bearings are super high quality, precision bearings on a precision shaft. And the belts are a little loose for my liking but they work, so they probably aren't the noise either. So I have no idea basically!

Didn't know that, thought your bot had two disc teeth as well, with Snappy 2 blocking the view.

I thought it was an egg shape

Looks vicious dude. Not sure how well it'll fare against things like Triggo but it's a solid robot.

Gotta say I was aiming for that. Wedge is 3/16" AR400 and no components exist under it, so it can be entirely ripped off and theoretically be ok (I totally wouldn't be ok at that point). The bulkhead behind it is 5/8" 6061 Aluminum as well so it should also be able to take some hits. The big flat wedge is for Triggo and similar robots, while I aim to have some other things put together before I actually fight. But the big wedge will use up the most weight of any of my ideas, and was the easiest to make.

Thats a whole lotta wedge, but probably not necessary, if you reinforce the leading edges you could get away with a lot less, its pretty unlikely a spinner is going to straight up punch through the center of your wedge, its virtually always a corner that gets peeled away.

are you going to franklin this year (theoretically?)

I should be if it's a thing that is going to happen. Definitely needs some work, the trantorque bushing I was using to hold the weapon motor pulley on keeps unthreading and feeding my pulley into the weapon. Which got old right at the moment when it bent over my weapon shaft. So I need to redesign and rebuild that, and make some more attachments for the front for sure. I kept the S7 cutoffs so I could maybe make some wedgelets out of those, plus a few other designs I'm playing around with. I just need more AR400 and a welder...

In the whopping one spinning weapon ive done, and ruin, I sleeve the weapon and pulley together, so that the load is shared by the sleeve and both of them, unless you're using a 3d printed pulley you shouldn't need a transtorque (imo) Overall I'm always trying to get the shaft supports as close to the weapon as possible to reduce mechanical advantage against them rather than dissipate the impact with wizardtry :)

On that note my 3lber design has come to a bit of a halt because I haven't found a overhanging weapon shaft solution that I like yet.

I mean I've only done one also, this is my first robot besides the Drumthing rebuild. I should have clarified, the shaft I bent was on the motor, and the trantorque was attaching the pulley to the motor, within the robot. Other options include set screws or a keyway, probably gonna look into set screws next. And I could 3d print it, might be easier, although the set screw would be annoying to thread there.

oh I didnt see that part.
set screws are notoriously finicky unless you grind a flat and match everything up very well, you might have better luck going to a roundbelt like we did on richard so that it slips, more than (what looks to be a timing belt) on yours.

brushless hobby motors are a pain in the butt, too much power for their size :)

I've got two V-belts. So no slip really, which isn't great. Only other thing I can think of is a keyway or multiple set screws. A single set screw worked alright in Drumthing Else so I'm inclined to go that route.

You could also do a shaft with flats and a S shaped opening or a hex if you want to spend a loooong time getting to know your dremel

Little stuff like that is the kind of things I want to do once my cnc service is running (see that thread)

I never really updated here so I'm back to brag. Gold Team Rules! brought three robots to Motorama, 2 30lb full combat FWs built and driven by me, and a 30lb Sportsman built by my roommate.

From left to right, HUGE, Duck Yeah, and BEESS??? Sorry for massive photo.

Huge is a weird as hell vertical spinner, which ran through the winner's bracket before double-losing to MegatRON in the finals to take 2nd overall in the FW division. 4-2 final record.

Duck Yeah is the original robot, and went 3-2 after losing its first round fight. It also had nearly every wedge I brought blown up, and the disc blown up, so it's back to the drawing board with the rest of the chassis. Not sure what I'll do with it but maintaining two 30lbers solo isn't the best time.

And finally, BEESS?? is the realization of the idea of "I wonder if I can build the whole thing inside an aluminum tube?". It ran through the bracket until hitting the big, excellent, shuffling sawbot Pitter Patter in the semifinals, then fought its way back into the finals against Pitter Patter and lost again. 4-2.

So yeah, Motorama was kind to us.

I remembered watching a few videos of Motorama with Huge in them and I think you did pretty well for this year. Some people on the Robot Wars Reddit described huge as being Gabriel with a Bar spinner, despite looking more like Gyrax. Anyway awesome bots you have there Somebody.
