Saw the thread yesterday, really nice beetleweight you have there and congratulations on the victory in the Annihilator, looked nice in action(however modern RW is just so fast now). How much did it cost in total to build?
If I lived near a place where they would do such events and had the money/tools, I'd have loved to build a robot and enter.

Thank you! :)
It's always hard to judge the cost of this bot as a lot of it was scavenged material, but an estimate for all the internal parts, wheels, wedge and plastic would probably come to somewhere near or just above £100. Not a cheap hobby but it's so worthwhile :D

That's nice, I imagine it being harder to get used parts here(then again my parents have a lot of metal parts in the basements), definitely can see why the lighter weight classes, especially featherweights, get made, 100$ isn't that much compared to 1000$(Series 3 Hypnodisc cost 800$, and bots could easily range from 200$(reusing parts) to 3-4000.)

To get a competitive heavyweight nowadays you'll be looking above your top estimate.
BattleBots give competitors $8000 towards their bots.
Series 3 was a loooong time ago :D

Yeah I know, it was just an example that even back then those were very expensive. Think the only series when they were somewhat "cheap" were 1 and 2(and some of the weaker Series 3 bots)

One day I will actually finish an ant.

Have a cardboard mockup with random internals thrown inside and mockup cardboard flipper replaced with real polycarb flipper.

They are supprisingly cheaper now than back then, as back then you needed to drop thousands into speed controllers
Its just that the bar is now set so high you should probably spend a lot in fancy materials and motors and such, but it isn't /required/ persay, I think charles's sadbot cost around $1k

Definitely this. I skip over extremely large images 9/10 times and never look at them again.

I think that's because they were uploaded from a mobile phone. I usually think it's better to not downsize them because it's likely that the quality could be buggered up massively. That's just me, though, I can see why people would prefer downsized pictures. Still, though...

Couldn't you just wait for them to load up? Doesn't seem like the best of reasons to "never look at them again" IMHO.

It has to do with my initial interest. If it's something I know for a fact that I'll be interested in and will be worth the wait for the image to load, I'll wait. However, if it's something I'm not that interested in or I have no idea what the image is going to be, I can't be be bothered to wait, especially when viewing on my phone, which I do a lot. It's excruciating on my phone because, whenever I scroll down, I'm shot back up because another image has started to load. This will lead to me to ignoring entire threads if it's an image heavy thread or there just so happens to be a fair few images on that one page I was about to read. In this case, it was the 1/10, because I'm interested in Robot Wars Live and he mentioned Snappy, so I wanted to see what the pictures were.

I like how replies to a post about robots on a robot forum are all about image size...

Apex's new blade looks pretty terrifying, do you know if they've been able to use it in a fight yet?

Also, your new antweight looks suspiciously like Adder, expect to hear from our lawyer soon.

Tell me about it yo.

Apex hasn't used the blade as they couldn't get it to the US for Robogames, not sure if this version will see full combat now...

As for the ant, hah, I just made a generic flipper with wedge corners on it like everything else I've done. Not my fault if Adder is supa generic ;)

Apex could make it into a future Robot Wars for sure though.
I built that big robot on that TV show that time

DNQ this time round but with a redesign in it's future I can't see why it wouldn't :)

Was the flipper working at Portsmouth? I wasn't sure if it was when I saw someone driving it in the Antweight Arena.
