righty ho! its heavyweight time! :ermm:
thought i had better get my arse into gear and finaly start work on my first heavy becuse getting badly beaten in feathers and ants is SOOOO last year
the plan is to build some thing cheap, reliable, heavy and moveing. the first one has already failed, but ah well tis only money :laughing
since everthing seems to be a flipper nowadays invertable seemed was the only way forward (without buggering around with self righters or nooomatics)  and having a wedge just seemed the sensible thing to do.
going old tech with the parts atm i have
24v wheelchair motors (4 of them, so i have spares!)
go kart tyres with hubs and some adapters made to fit them to the motor shafts
200 amp 4QD's for speed control
10a 12v sla's ( gonna be running 36v)
20mm HDPE sheets
20mm mdf ;)
mild steel box section

the wedge is going to be 8mm thick mild steel, just to add a bit of weight and protection, the rest will be hdpe then a layer of wood. hopefully i can scratch shwruption's paintwork, that is the sole aim of this :approve:

it takes great skill to design a wedge you know ;)

i'll update with some pictures when i get the frame welded up

Ah, ok.

So the CAD bot is just a pusher? No active weapons at all?

i wont paint it then :yaya)

yes just a pusher, its costing quite alot as it is (for me anyway) it might  have some hooks on top to stop people going straight over the top.
got a strip of 2mm ti for the botom of the wedge, give me a bit lower ground clearance

what im worreid about is being too light, i mean that shwruption robot (don't know if you've heard of it) is solidly hardox with its fancy noooomatiks system and that is 96kgs (?) i have no hardox, no pnematics and pretty light motors.
hopefully the 8mm mild steel scoop will help add a bit of weight.
you should be happy, at least i have found a weightclass i can't build cheaply in

Eruption's 95kg atm, 97 with gas

If your robot isn't atleast 75kg I'd say it would be dangerously light

Yeah, they're not cheap :P

It cost us £3000 to build Eruption
Although, not always- Chaos 2 for instance, cost only £250 to build, and we all know what it went on to do   :approve:

Although Chaos 2 had the experience of building previous bots, and they used a bunch of the parts from Robot the Bruce and the original Chaos. Plus they scaveneged a lot of their parts from scrapyards, such as the polycarbonate and aluminium armour. And even they they had to add a huge chunk of lead weight at the front to stop it from kicking itself over. Mind you, some of their solutions were surprisingly cheap. They held the front "arms" down with elastic bands. :gawe:

But yeah, if you haven't had much experience, then it can get expensive.

I wouldn't say so, meself. It's not really a fair way of looking at it, considering that it's over 11 years old now, but even still, I bet it'd give some of today's competitors a run for their money. I know it won't fight again for the purpose of doing so, but still.

I hope you realize that most of the "stats" on rw were made up or fudged.

Haz if you are worried about being underweight you could always add ballast around the drive train because you want as much weight over the drive as possible, to maximize pushing power.

I very much doubt that, I'd be surprised if it lasted 30 seconds with Thor

chaos 2 may not last very long with the heavyweights of today but it probably would have been rebuilt at least once by now to keep up with todays bots if it was still fighting

In which case the total cost would have gone up to atleast £3000 :P

heck, ill be suprised if i last 10 seconds with any thing

i think this is the first robot i actually thought about weight distribution, the front is weighed down by the steel scooop while the batteries are just in front of each motor. i even have a rough idea where the 4QDs are going to go.
by my calculations its about 83-84kgs so i need to add weight somewhere
