RR2 AI Tournament
« on: May 28, 2019, 08:26:06 AM »
I have noticed that RR2 doesn't have a tournament forum, so I have decided to post this here. There is no entry limit, so you could enter 10 into the tournament if you want to. All entries will have to follow these guidelines:
-Maximum Weight: 110 kg
-1 battery and 1 electronic required per robot
-Cluster bots are allowed, but the combined weight will have to stay under 110 kg.
-Reps are allowed, but if more than one of the same rep are sent in, only one will be accepted
-AI has to work correctly
-I might make adjustments to a robot if I deem necessary
-Subscribe to my channel (optional, but will help your robots make the final cut)
Submit your entries to codesilvergaming@gmail.com before all the spots are taken!

The very first RR2 AI tournament... this ought to be interesting. Will we have to do the AI ourselves?

Yes, you can use either the default AI or make a custom AI.

Submit your robots! Don't be shy. I've literally gotten just one person, so I obviously need more submissions. I've been hoping to get around 40, but right now I only have 15, and only 2 of them aren't mine, so please send in some bots soon. I'm hoping to start the tournament in 2 weeks.

Dumb question but...
How do I export bots/where are they located?

Second Question:
At the moment the game is suffering from a bug that causes robots to die instantaneously.  What will you do if a robot is prone to causing this bug?
Horizontal Grabbers in particular are a serious offender of this.
I have several opinions.

bots are saved here by default for me:

C:\Users\James\AppData\LocalLow\Nerd Island Studios LLC\Robot Rumble 2.0

As for the swiftly dying bots, I have been experimenting, and it seems like the chassis has hitpoints, and the amount of damage weapons do could be unbalanced af atm. That's just my theory, though.
Battles are won in the bot lab, tournaments are won in the bindings.py

If there is a robot that is meant to use bugs for an advantage, I will not allow it into the tournament.

I didn't even realize this was a tournament thread XD
I just meant I was trying to figure out how to make bots that don't die on contact with an opponent.

The final spot has now been taken. You can still submit bots to be included in whiteboard matches along with the next tournament.

I didn't realize there was an entry cap.  Maybe I shouldn't have entered so many bots...

It's fine. Other people can still submit, my goal was just to get to 32/34, and if it goes over, I'll be making some cuts. So far I've got 6 people including myself, so we do have a few competitors, but again, people can still submit... if they ever decide to do so... *cough, whoever is reading this comment, cough*

Well... probably shoulda waited for the new update to have posted this tournament. The tourney will be canceled, and I will be starting a new one. I will be allowing 3 bots per person, so make them count, and make them awesome!

So sorry about that!  Send me a PM, and we can coordinate the build schedule vs the tournaments.  I want to make sure you guys get a chance to play!

Also, AI is in need of some love, but won't get any until we have the new damage system in place.  Right now robots drive at each other, which works well for spinners and wedges, but not so much for flippers and axes.

Edit: I'm sucking it up and using the last of my cell data to upload an "unbreakable flippers" build for kix's tournament.  I'm not sure if it affects you, but hopefully the new build will be up shortly.

It's alright, Chris. As long as the updates make the game better, I'm happy. Anyways, I'm trash at editing videos, so if anyone would like to help, that'd be great. But for now, I think I'm gonna try and make some videos of my own bots to see what works and what doesnt, filming wise. Expect some of those videos within a month or so.
