Too Much Punch Robotics
« on: September 16, 2012, 12:34:12 AM »
I figure sooner or later I should start up a thread to document the creation of the 30 pound robot I am planning, might as well do it now eh?

As far as parts that I have gathered so far, I have only collected the outside stuff (wheels, sawblade, possible armor etc) which I have used to construct a "pile of parts" Mockup of what the finished machine, named "TweakMaster" will look like:

Yes, that is a paint tray that I am thinking about using as the top of the chassis. Nothing here is final however, so the parts that I use are subject to change. The reason I am considering using the parts that I have gathered is because they are cheap, I don't have a lot of money as it is, so I want to build the cheapest possible robot without making it of cardboard or an rc car. I'm sure I will do extensive modifications to the paint tray (if I even use it) and the name tag is not final  either, its just a placeholder (I plan on actually painting the name onto the thing.)

The wheels are standard lawnmower wheels with sanding disks on the side/paper wheel hub covers as a goofy design thing.

Except for the expensive stuff like speed controls/radio equipment, I hope I will be able to build this whole thing with surplus parts and spare stuff that I can find.

EDIT: image reuploaded with imgur.

Yes, I sure do  :gawe:

The wheels are leaned up against the chassis for the photo (nothing is connected there, in fact its all held up on rolls of tape!) but I do plan on finding some way to camber them on the final build.

Honestly I'd rather not use Banebots, I think they're boring and ugly. :/

Tip: although it may seem obvious, buy a good set of batteries, i had Major problems with ML until i finally got the pack it runs now, best 70 quid i ever spent on that robot. Proof that a really cack robot with decent batteries can keep going, look at ML at the champs, okay over excited and overall bad driving, but it kept going without a charge.

what would be really funny is if you made a serious steel frame for the robot and had the paint tray "armor" on top.

Also just use colsons or BB wheels. There are premade mounting solutions for them with drill motors or BB wheels if you use a BB gearbox.

It's all hot glued together. The duct tape is a last resort reinforcement.

Nah, some kind of fiberboard and metal. Sorry :>

Honestly this is only a prototype. I don't think the receiver I am using is legal for combat.

Mantis I think, haven't weight it. The body shell is a paint tray so that makes it pretty big.

Looks like it'd get owned in combat but it's got this early Robot Wars US feel to it so I like it.

Thanks, I still cant decide which way is going to be the "front." though. Or what the weapon will be.
