Robotics General Discussion Thread
« on: August 26, 2012, 06:49:19 PM »
We've had a lot of good general robotics and robot combat discussion in the General Chatter thread but that always seems to die out and get sidetracked or lost in all the other random stuff that goes on in that thread. So I have created a General Chatter thread for robotics/robot stuff.

Also have a link about Complete Control...

The inside shot of pressure drop was nice, and I don't recall seeing the version of Complete Control seen in the design product news magazine.

I haven't posted this anywhere to my knowledge, but I think it deserves recognition:

http://web.archive.org/web/20020614094808/http://bobrobot.tripod.com/prelims-day2-evening.html

Sadly the rest of the site wasn't archived, just this and the front page. So I lost literally tons of great fights. Still, the 30-odd ones that are here are a great resource.

Current state of the old Vlad
http://www.e46fanatics.com/forum/showthread.php?t=723078

When I watched Vlad the Impaler vs Mechavore, I kinda shed a tear. Seeing Vlad getting torn to shreds like that was heartbreaking in a way. I know that Mechavore is a destructive machine, but that's just a little overkill, especially since Vlad was in no state to fight after that match and was mothballed in favor of Vladiator and Vlad 2.

I'm glad someone is putting time into restoring such an iconic robot. Maybe we'll see an upgraded version of the original Vlad back in the arena and ready to fight again and continue its legacy.

To be fair Vlad was still alive at the end, and Gage probably could have rebuilt it if he wanted too.  Besides, the final score was 24-21, if Mechavore had been merciful, it probably would have lost.

Here's a guy uploading more RW fights without commentary, apparently the RW DVD's have that feature.  So jelly of everyone that owns a PAL version DVD player.

That makes sense, I bet it gave him the push he needed to make major improvements to his bot.

I agree it was sad to see it go that way. But what a way to go though, it fought greatly against Mechavore. If I remember the score at the end was 24-21, Though I could be wrong.

24-21 is correct.  And I agree, if that's not a hero's burial I don't know what is - not just surviving that kind of punishment but very nearly winning.

Yeah. I'll be honest with you, I felt the same way with Chaos 2 in its last fight with Razer and 13 Black.

But yeah. I'm happy to hear that Vlad's being restored- it's one of the most iconic machines in the history of the sport, and it'll be great to see it running again.

Ehh that was three years ago, I'm pretty sure I read somewhere that they decided to retire it because of how historical it is...maybe we will see it in a museum one day.
