They didn't even want to have a lifting arm...

Exactly.. The clone debate for Storm 2 is just stupid..

The robot used the arm in what 1 battle? The team were forced to put it in and told off for not using it.

I wasn't calling him a clone.......

slightly of topic, yeah storm 2 was high tech and advaced, i just dont like it. not becuse it beat a favourite of mine or "copied" a design, i just feel it was a bit of a waste of money, the ti alone on that robot must have cost a bloody fortune. it wasnt really with the spirit of robot wars, just like typhoon. they were designed to win, not to compete.

Once you go TI you never go back. I've been replacing my bots armor with it and it is awesome armor. :P

I don't understand what you mean by StormII was not in the "spirit of Robot Wars". The goal of any robot combat competition is to win. (right) And the ways that happens are superior machine or dumb luck. The StormII team went with the first option.

pwn:
My FIRST teams robot had I gyro to "assist with driving" I unplugged it after my first match because it made the robot somewhat sluggish when it turned.

yeah, the goal of any competition is to win, this was a telly program- slightly different it was for entertainment. but saying that you have to have the good robots to balance out ordinary peoples atempts. im half glad that robot wars ended when it did, after the same basic robots winning, the audience would have got bored, and given up on the idea of robot combat(in the uk at least)

yeah ti is good stuff, i have some on my antweight and fleas

Not sure if I agree with that - compared to Battlebots, Robot Wars was pretty good about avoiding the same basic robots winning.  Sure,  Razer and Tornado won everything in the 2 Extremes, but Razer stepped down eventually and, there were new great designs popping up every series.

Even in Series 7 - only 3 robots made it to the semi's in both S6 and S7, and 3 other S6 semifinalists had retired.

And Storm 2 looked invincible in its TV run, but it got pwned by Supernova in some unseen footage, and completely outclassed by Sewer Snake when it travelled to America - in hindsight it may not have breezed through the Series 8 that never was.

I suppose you're right, consdering that they offered a cash prize.  Perhaps they shouldn't have done that - then it becomes all about winning

I feel that the most entertaining designs come out of the woodworks when the primary motivation is the chance to be on TV.

I agree with that- the designs all became so serious in Series 7, particularly with the "No Fur" rule- that pretty much scuppered any chance of Diotoir returning   :/

Indeed- but that's the thing with Series 7. Not enough veterans or fun entries as it were- most of the newcomers consisted of "serious" designs which tried to come off as powerful (BOD being a good example), but ultimately falling flat for several reasons. Plus it all became overly-competitive rather than fun- like there was a Mortis in every heat.

That's Tiger Wood from Robotica, isn't it? I remember it getting shredded by Ultra-Violence in the FTTF.
