Robot Wars - Series Ten Discussion Thread

Poll added, time to vote for the robots who you think are going to win their Heat and become the Robot Wars Series Ten Grand Champions.

My votes:

Heat A: Apollo
Heat B: Eruption
Heat C: Rapid

Heat E: Magnetar

In no particular order, I voted for:

1. Aftershock -- Landed tons of solid blows last series and it took Carbide to literally shear its armor off and throw it through the wall to stop it. I'm thinking back to how utterly demolished Aftershock left Sabretooth last series and it looks like there's a lot of opportunities to do it again this time around.
2. Terrorhurtz -- I feel like John Reid has been long overdue to come up out from behind and surprise everyone. Supposedly its armor has been upgraded to something 1.2 cm thick? In any case it's beaten Carbide before and with the right driving skill can do it again. Beta was all over Tombstone at BattleBots.
3. Eruption -- Voted in because it was last series' runner-up. IMO, Eruption is a better flipper than Apollo and has a better driver, better armor, and overall a better design. Carbide vs. Eruption was very close and with the modified tournament setup for this series I think it could go all the way.
4. Carbide -- Obligatory re-vote for the current champion for no real reason. We're also currently living in the age of the horizontal spinner where bots like Carbide and Tombstone are dominating the scene.
5. Donald Thump -- WILL MEME MAGIC STRIKE AGAIN?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?

Feels more of an upset more than anything else over Behemoth's win over Apollo. But overall, some of the changes done to the series are like a mix bag. While I did enjoy some of the editing work between battles and the overall pacing of the episode work out well. I still think that the presenters did get a little too much screen-time especially during the battles themselves .There's nothing wrong in seeing someone giving an reaction during a battle, but for me I just wanted to watch the fights without cutting to the presenters most of the time for their reaction or thoughts. But that's just me. So as it can be said, it's about time!

Pretty good episode overall, but I've gotta say that the start of it all seemed pretty fudged. I didn't feel like I'd had a proper introduction with the odd half opening titles, and diving straight into meeting the teams, then explaining the tournament format after that. Also the bonus segment about the dude with the flying suit took forever to get through.

Other than that I really enjoyed it. Once it got past the Group Battles I thought the pacing was much better. The new graphics are absolutely epic but I wish they didn't wobble around, that's the only negative towards the graphics I can think of. And here's a comment for you all to get your pitchforks out for, I actually liked the Fog Of War. The new tournament format worked great too.

Bonus info from being at filming: Sabretooth vs Behemoth vs Donald Thump was the first battle filmed, and the Floor Flipper broke. The central back plate got stuck outside of the hole it's supposed to slot into so the crew just kept firing it and firing it like half a dozen times until it eventually broke off and the Floor Flipper went back into place. Also at the end of the fight, Shunt pushed the robots to the wall in order to let them be taken out, and in doing so pulled up one of the arena floor squares with the plow. Angela also held an interview with Ian Watts while they fished out Rubber Duck from the Trench, but wasn't shown. In the fight against The Swarm, Donald Thump was having major control issues, the fight was delayed by quite some time because it kept stopping and starting and suddenly driving off forwards once it had gotten into the start position.
