I haven't watched the second episode yet, but my problem with those filler bits in EP1 was that they were awfully introduced and edited. The interview they didn't shove in couldn't have been that bad, could it? Was I making funny faces in the background by accident?

There was an interview that took place which I was in the background for that didn't make it into the first special. I presume that's why we got all the godawful Overdozer/Terrorhurtz filler bits in its place.

I thought the idea of the Christmas specials was to attract people who hadn't watched the main series, if that's true then the clips make sense.

Just watched ep. 1

Well, that was... a thing that happened.

Not particularly impressive, but it can be kind of excused, seeing as it was a field of newbies. All but one of those fights was over surprisingly quickly and anticlimactically. A few points I want to make though:

-Just HOW FRAGILE was JAR? It seemed to dislodge something vital every three seconds.
-Figured Arena Cleaner would win
-The Cat proved to be surprisingly strong, though what happened when it hit Sir Killalot that crunked it?
-Shame that the one bot designed by someone who actually knows their engineering (Interstellar) didn't do so good. Then again, it was rather steep for a front-hinge flipper
-Fillerrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr. The Overdozer recap was especially painful. I can probably understand the logic behind it was (shorter and fewer fights, not part of the main series). Plus, Dara v. Angela was pretty funny, largely due to how utterly awkward it all was (JP probs would hand their rears to them)
-We got the House Robots attacking downed competitors again, along with the return of Sir Killalot tossing a loser across the arena, which was all cool.

I called this one well beforehand, but I was honestly shocked at just how good Kadeena Machina turned out to be. I honestly believe Dara when he said that the Machina was main-series worthy.

Soldier Ant was cool as well, though I did find its crusher was a bit lacking in power. Three tons of crushing may sound impressive... until you remember the likes of Razer, who had nine in its glory days. Still it did well, probably could have won against Robosavage had luck been on its side.

The other two, however, didn't really seem so good. Robosavage's flipper seemed anemic, since it had to shove Soldier Ant after flipping to get it turned over. Dee also appeared to be highly ineffective, just thrashing around without any real power behind its hitting (unlike the likes of Gabriel or UK Stinger). Seeing it go out in what is likely the absolute shortest fight in the entire series (definitely since the reboot) was worth a laugh though.

I also have to seriously question Dee winning over Robosavage. I felt Robosavage had done more damage (puncturing the wheel... somehow) and was the more aggressive of the two. Hell, I think Prof. Sharkey is questioning it.

I also noticed a lot less filler this time around, mainly just the clip of Chompalot's demise and the feud between Savage and Stephens (Battle of the Asses there). Overall, I think this episode was better than the previous one.

The page confirms the air date and the who's completing in the first episode and new features of Series 9 (2 whatever) of Robot Wars. Kill-E-Crank-E was not only ridiculously long for a Robot of this generation, but somewhat ineffective in terms of weaponry (The disk couldn't run fast enough to cause damage. 450 RPM max speed if you want an idea) . But still, all hope given to Robin Herrick for that he can pull something off better this time around and possibly make it to the head-to-heads if lucky enough.

Still, I have seen some images of JellyFish on Instagram, or rather on a competitor spreadsheet on the Robot Wars Reddit. You won't be too surprised on the looks and the weaponry.

Another Necro-Post. I finally found out the air date and time of the New series of Robot Wars, on the BBC Two Twitter Page. It appears that they will show the first episode of Series 9 of Robot Wars before Series 24 of Top Gear which is on an hour later.

Damn it Squirrel_Monkey! I was about to post that!

Anyway, sorry for the outburst. But I had have a look at most of competitors and like everyone, I have high expectations of this series. Especially on some of the competitors like Heavy metal which I wasn't expecting the looks of the machine; Cobra, Carbide, and Expulsion. I was also a bit curious around Week two competitor HoboGoblin, the BBC media centre mentioned about HoboGoblin in the episode 2's line-up, but like everyone, I didn't have any clue of what HoboGoblin was and looked like, due to the lack of any photos from the team till now.

Again the page has been cobbled together and not professionally lay out on the site like last year with the fancy buttons, finalist side bar and such, but the site was recently updated today and over time, the administers and page designers will improve the site whenever they have the time. Still it give us an idea on whose competing and what we might expect from the series.

Now, time to make bets.
