This show reminds me of a PS1 game I used to have called Rock 'Em Sock 'Em Robots Arena.  Was one of my favorite games and had it until one day I was playing it on my PS2 and my klutz of a kid sister knocked my PS2 off the shelf it was on and as a result ruined the disc.

They also had a toy line released alongside with the game.  I remember having X-Cavator and another robot by the name of Head Case.

Haha actually the pun wasn't intentional but it makes sense.

It's just a dopey reality show with snooze drama I don't care about at all and 2 mins of fake robot fights.
Why would syfy take a dump on my holy battlebots altar

That episode was so bad I almost punched a hole in my TV screen.  Soon as I realized that the first half was going to be completely robot-less, I skipped ahead.  My god, every time they talked about the girl from Steampunk's mixed-race bastard son (ON THIS SHOW THAT'S SUPPOSEDLY ABOUT FIGTING ROBOTS), I shouted "F**k your son!!!"  In fact why stop there? F**k Chris Jericho, f**k the color commentator with his "unofficial scoreard," f**k confessionals, f**k country boy, f**k Medieval for failing to knock out the Steampunk stlut, f**k SighFy, f**k Real Steel, f**k George Lucas' daughter, f**k the time wasting MMA trainer from the first half, and f**k.  This.  Show.   But God bless Mark Setrakian for continuing to build complex & expensive robots just to see them get destroyed.  It'd be so great if I could airlift him out of there and then drop a nuke on wherever the show's being filmed.

It would've been the highlight of the night if they'd had to medivac the guy who got hydraulic fluid in his face.

this guy uploads the fights without the other BS.
How you make Alarm Clock Pizza is:
Step 1: You buy an alarm clock from the store, and then you have to break it and put it in the sauce.
Step 2: Fold the sauce in 5 slices and put it in the dough.
Step 3: Paint the eggs with a pitcher of a clock showing what time you want to wake up and eat pizza for breakfast.
Step 4: Put the eggs in the dough.
Step 5: Make it flat into a round shape and draw the time you want on it.
Step 6: Put some old steel to prevent other peple from stealing it.
Step 7: Make it flat and cut into 60 slices 1 for each minute in 1 our.
Step 8: Put in the oven set the timer to 30048813.2884 seconds and put the temperature on 'Volcano' setting.
Step 9: If you think it is take to long, then get yor alarm clock and set it to now so that it will ring and you can take it out.
Step 10: Take it out uv the uvin wen it is redy and go to bed. In the morning eat pizza and also eat yor hands bi mistake.

Lol you guys.... I enjoyed the fight and stop saying it's scripted when the robot dude himself said it ain't, your all acting like spoiled entitled kids. If you just put robots in the ring and had them fight without anything else there is NO WAY the show would be successful, this format is the best chance a show like this has.

Now suck it up and watch some robots beat on each other.

Robot Wars
Battlebots

I'm not sure if it's scripted, but it sure as heck is fake. I can't get over the painful stupid drama and the fights themselves are just dumb.

At the same time, interviews and the likes weren't 80% of RW and Battlebots. The actual combat is secondary to this show in it's current format.

Keep in mind those robots didn't have just 20 mins to repair and there was A LOT more of them per show. There's only 12-14 of these big beasts and I'm no expert but they look a lot more technical and tougher to put together and repair, So naturally with this show they need to fill in the time with build-up.

What interviews
It's just lame drama about these annoying people I couldn't care less about.

And I agree with thyrus in there is no way these robots wail on each other for 5 minutes doing nothing and then all of a sudden one just blows up in a shower of pyrotechnics. It's so fake and the commentators just ham it up to no end.

This is why this was flawed from the start. With BattleBots you could get 3-4 fights in a 30-minute episode because they were so inexpensive to build, and as a result there were so many of them, plus with four weight classes there were plenty of exciting fights. In this you can only get one or two fights in an episode because they need to stretch a single 12-bot single elimination bracket across an entire season.

You gotta admit, they could fill the time better.  For instance those practice dummies from the first ep were acceptable filler; an MMA trainer who talks like Rocky just took a lead pipe to the head, is not.  Or they could just cut it down to half an hour.

Dang now I want Robogeddon so bad. However I doubt it's going to happen.
Funny you should say that, because I was just thinking about the South Park episode where James Cameron fixes everyone's taste for crappy reality TV by literally raising the bar.

What interviews
It's just lame drama about these annoying people I couldn't care less about.

I'm only using his words x)

Totally behind Badnik's point, I wanted to say something like that myself but couldn't find the words.

Now for my summary of sorts:

So we've got 12 robots in a elimination tournament, 2 fights an episode. Disregarding stoppages and assuming the matches go for the full 6 minutes (three 2 minute rounds), there's 12 minutes of combat in a robot combat show intended for a 1 hour timeslot. At it's very most, Robot Combat League is 20% robot combat. (~26% if you do not count ad breaks as part of the show)

So you've got a robot combat show that is not even a quarter robotic combat. But what about the robots? They look cool. The method for control is neat, though it makes the team member controlling the fists look like assclowns playing Boxing on Wii Sports for the first time.

It's not how they look, though. The thrill of robot combat is the spectacle that is the power behind these nefarious creations we have built with our own hands. Seeing a few hundred kilograms be tossed into the air, the shredding power of high velocity spinning weapons... on Robot Combat League, we have two anthropomorphic robots stumbling around like drunks in a bar fight, if the drunks were wired up with the overzealous pyrotechnics of the Power Rangers, set to go off from the slightest lovetap. It's less critical damage and more Critical Existence Failure. ( http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/CriticalExistenceFailure )

So there's not so many robots, not so many fights, and not much in the way of combat on a robot combat show. It's disappointing to say the least.

Redline gets it.

The Car boxing bag trailer? That was good. That reminded me of what they tried to show.

That was the Gravity flip, the Wheelie Whacko bursting the gastank, the Blendo being disqualified, the nightmare vs slamjob and the hypnodisk verses twn twrn.

There is none of that here. There is no relatable measuring at all. Only size.

Put this onto your signature if you were part of this crappy fad in '03.
