Snake.
YEAH SCREW YOUR GIANT SNAKE I HAZ AN AXE AND THE POWER TO RIG FIGHTSWith the technology behind it, mate. Besides, you seem quite biased about it- I never stated that Mortis was the "better" of the two, I was commenting that it was one of the most technologically advanced robots of the era, due to the various aspects of its construction.
Don't forget Gear Crow build by the person who made Disector.Ah, Gear Crow- that one was pretty cool, but I never did see it in action. From what I saw, it was Bipedal.

No I'm not. Chinkilla has two saws on each side. It also has a lifter in the front.
You are really going to bring back Red Caps Lock back into this thread, especially one that is centered around other's opinions? BOT\R.o.T.a.S. or Chinkilla.

He also had 'The master' going well, so that was his serious bot.
Think of it from Mark's shoes.
The choice is between a boring-looking robot with a so-so chance of winning, and the holy grail of engineering with a next to zero chance of winning.
Mortis was really just an example of no matter how much money you throw at the sport you wont always win.It was still a marvel of engineering, 3 hits per second, The force of a 33mm Bullet, using Centrifugal force, with a weight cap? That is borderline impossible
Any FIRST bot is way more advanced than any normal combat robot. On them you have potentiometers, gyros, cameras, and ultrasonic sensors out the wazoo. :P oh and did I mention they have to run autonomously?
Quoted for truth- and then there's what was used in the armour- Titanium, Kevlar, Carbon Fibre, coated with Silicon Carbide- that's pretty much tougher than diamond when combined.Mortis was really just an example of no matter how much money you throw at the sport you wont always win.It was still a marvel of engineering, 3 hits per second, The force of a 33mm Bullet, using Centrifugal force, with a weight cap? 101.
In all seriousness, for it's time, Mortis.
Red Drum.
Actually Sparks, 101 did have a clever system for its spike- it used sensors that would automatically fire the spike whenever a target came into range.101.

Thumper, RW US 1997 hammer bot. Completely autonomous.

And Thumper sounds interesting as well- have you got any pictures?
Also, you guys used gyros? o_OI've tried them yes, but without the tzatziki sauce, they're a little bit dry for my liking.
LOL, I was being sarcastic with 101. It had sensors now! That's pretty cool.Indeed- it's amazing where a Pound and a Penny can get you, these days.
Was there ever a video of that match? I have a book which mentioned that match and I have never seen it.(https://gametechmods.com/uploads/images/9179flipextra.jpg)Actually Sparks, 101 did have a clever system for its spike- it used sensors that would automatically fire the spike whenever a target came into range.101.

Thumper on the left. Note that's him flipping himself back on his wheels using a self righting arm.
Ah yes. I remember that one. It fought Hercules, as I can see there. Was there ever a video of that match? conquering clown"Well, you need some clown to do the barbeque.
Gyrobot from RW Series 7 also had some genius design elements, particularly in its ability to spin regardless of whether or not it was inverted, and being able to double its spinning speed by rotating on the spot- it's just a pity we never really saw more of it.
Perhaps, but there aren't a lot of them around, IIRC. That, and Gyrobot was the first of its type I ever saw- I often used to wonder how it could spin without any intersecting internal parts.Gyrobot from RW Series 7 also had some genius design elements, particularly in its ability to spin regardless of whether or not it was inverted, and being able to double its spinning speed by rotating on the spot- it's just a pity we never really saw more of it.
Couldn't every invertible shell-spinner do that?
OK, maybe not so much high-tech as it was cleverly engineered, but for its time, it was a very cool design- had Series 7 had awards, I could imagine it being nominated for something like "Most Original" or "Best Engineering".What are you talking about?
The internal design elements of invertable ring spinners...OK. Right, I'll shut up now.OK, maybe not so much high-tech as it was cleverly engineered, but for its time, it was a very cool design- had Series 7 had awards, I could imagine it being nominated for something like "Most Original" or "Best Engineering".What are you talking about?
Gyrobot is an awesome piece of engineering and caused a RFL rule change to ban such a robot. It's not very high tech.

Typhoon 2
Typhoon 2fail.mov
YES a extra Typhoon 2 fan!Oh dear.
Man, he has a actual good point.High speed, and BREAKING ARENA WALLS!? WIN.
The "Wobulator" sounds like basic physics of the shell keeping it stable. All shell spinners and cage spinners exert this force.Perhaps- to tell you the truth, that's all I know of the internals, other than that it's four-wheel drive, and that the spinner is driven by a petrol motor. Thus, I'm not so certain about it being as "Technologically-advanced" as some make it out to be.
I believe he's referring to the robot's internal "Wobulator" device, which allowed it to keep its balance properly when spinning at maximum speed. Apparently, it's a closely-guarded secret amongst the division of the RAF that built the robot. And also didn't exist
It's something I read about in the magazine- if it was that guarded a secret (and that's presumably why), then that's why I put apparently instead of "certainly".I believe he's referring to the robot's internal "Wobulator" device, which allowed it to keep its balance properly when spinning at maximum speed. Aye, now that I see that that's the case, it wasn't all that spectacular in the technology department. It was just the gyroscopic forces the spinner createdIt's something I read about in the magazine- if it was that guarded a secret (and that's presumably why), then that's why I put apparently instead of "certainly".I believe he's referring to the robot's internal "Wobulator" device, which allowed it to keep its balance properly when spinning at maximum speed. Heck,Gravity did it because of the heavyness of Hydra.PERIOD.And how much power was needed to flip it that high?

They didn't even want to have a lifting arm...Whoever says Storm 2 I am going to break their necks.
Why, because storm 2 took bioazards already champion design, made it faster and stronger, and kicked ass?
slightly of topic, yeah storm 2 was high tech and advaced, i just dont like it. not becuse it beat a favourite of mine or "copied" a design, i just feel it was a bit of a waste of money, the ti alone on that robot must have cost a bloody fortune. it wasnt really with the spirit of robot wars, just like typhoon. they were designed to win, not to compete. That wasn't off topic :P
sorry for going off topic
None of the robots in the UK (bar Big Nipper) are really high-tech, all these crazy weapon systems are in America
They didn't even want to have a lifting arm...
They didn't even want to have a lifting arm...
Exactly.. The clone debate for Storm 2 is just stupid..
The robot used the arm in what 1 battle? The team were forced to put it in and told off for not using it.

yeah, the goal of any competition is to win, this was a telly program- slightly different it was for entertainment. but saying that you have to have the good robots to balance out ordinary peoples atempts. im half glad that robot wars ended when it did, after the same basic robots winning, the audience would have got bored, and given up on the idea of robot combat(in the uk at least)
yeah ti is good stuff, i have some on my antweight and fleas
I suppose you're right, consdering that they offered a cash prize. Perhaps they shouldn't have done that - then it becomes all about winningI agree with that- the designs all became so serious in Series 7, particularly with the "No Fur" rule- that pretty much scuppered any chance of Diotoir returning :/
I feel that the most entertaining designs come out of the woodworks when the primary motivation is the chance to be on TV.
Yes, thats the SOLE reason they didnt return.Indeed- but that's the thing with Series 7. Not enough veterans or fun entries as it were- most of the newcomers consisted of "serious" designs which tried to come off as powerful (BOD being a good example), but ultimately falling flat for several reasons. Plus it all became overly-competitive rather than fun- like there was a Mortis in every heat.
