Title: Controversial Judges' Decisions
Post by: RammingSpeed on May 26, 2012, 06:21:27 AM
If you've ever been bothered by a Judges' Decision that you thought was controversial, let off some steam and post it on this thread.

You can debate over this topic, but please don't let it get personal.

I'll start things off: Gravedigger vs Steg-O-Saw-Us
Steg did little throughout the match while getting flipped and shoved around by Gravedigger. Either this match was poorly
edited or Steg managed to disable something of Gravedigger that I we weren't aware of.

Prizephita Mach 2 vs Wild Thing. The latter really did little to actually effect the 'Phita which pretty much dominated the match until the end where they were ineffectually pushed.

Maybe this is just me thinking that Prizephita is so awesome that I can take down Thermidor 2 with only one wheel working, but hey, it was a kick in the teeth.

Not really in the decision itself, but I should mention Griffon and Daisy Chopper in Series 3. As much as I liked the look of Daisy Chopper (And having one of the more awesome names in Series 3), how they managed to persuade one of the Judges to change their mind is baffling- Griffon leaving it alone (whilst still mobile) after mostly dominating it to take on the House Robots (and easily surviving, and almost toppling Sergeant Bash again) doesn't really constitute DC winning.

Tornado vs Razer

Tornado had rammed Razer around the arena multiple times in that battle and caused more damage.

What about Nightmare vs Battlerat?

As controversial as that was, the Battlerat guys were total - about it.

Oh, I know. There's been a lot of drivers on Battlebots who can't take losing. Take Mouser's driver, he flipped the - out because
the pulverizer hit Mouser just once after the buzzer. Maybe the producer told them to do it to add drama, if otherwise they need to
grow some -.

And yet Whirligig's driver can take it after about 15 hits from the pulverizer after he tapped out.

GBH 2 vs The Alien vs ICU vs Sir Chromalot
GBH 2 deserved to go through definitely. ICU was clearly out but Sir CHromalot really didn't do as much as either GB H 2 or The Alien.

I think Robot Wars decisions are more controversial (and butthurt, for that matter) because they can be done intentionally simply to create drama.

All about Razer, the announcer and pretty much everyone else was biased, i was watching a match where Razer was about to be beaten, he was getting grilled on the flame thing, and then Shunt came and nudged him off. he later won that match. (i think) the main guy that made Razor is annoying too.

I don't really have anything against Razer, the things i said up there just get to me some times.

Yup,
btw there is a difference between "controversial" and "wrong".

That's Razer and Behemoth in the First World Championship you're thinking of, there- although I think it won the decision 2 to 1 on account of the damage it caused to Behemoth. Without it, I think it would've lost anyway. Likewise, I do think that about Ian Lewis to some extent, although Simon Scott and Vincent Blood were alright.

One thing that did anger me in one fight with Razer in it was its battle against Chaos 2 and 13 Black. After Chaos 2 took major damage from 13 Black and was obviously immobilised, Razer continued to attack it afterwards- the very same thing Ian was complaining about in Series 4 against Pussycat.

Overkill vs FrenZy.  Overkill landed like 2 taps on FrenZy, whilst FrenZy landed at least a good dozen.  Overkill got stuck on the killsaws and the spikes, and the best thing the commentators could say about it was that Overkill eventually freed itself.  Somehow Overkill won 7-2 which should be impossible as FrenZy was the only one demonstrating aggression or strategy.  The judges must have had a hard on for that blade because I didn't see it do a damn thing.

Overkill would got nowhere if it only had that blade, it never did a thing. I totally agree.

Apparently 259's belt was damaged in the first round and Adam didn't notice it.  So it's unfortunate, but the loss was partially his own fault.

Really? I never knew that. Do you think that if he had noticed and fixed it, 259 would have won?

Hard to say, because the loss of drive was probably unrelated to the weapon breaking.  Leaning towards yes because Wild Thing couldn't hit 259 without touching the disc until 259 was barely moving.

Season 3 of Robot Wars sucked for it. Off the top of my head, Beserk vs Hypnodisk, and Wild Thing vs Panic Attack.
Why?  Because of the goddamn arena floor spike.

I know how you feel. That floor spike was constantly robbing us of great fights.

In my honest opinion, the part where it annoyed me most was the fight with Behemoth and Pitbull. When Pitbull got flipped over by Behemoth, the House Robots rerighted it, and when Behemoth got flipped by the spike, they did nothing!

It's a lot harder to argue with the Robot Wars decisions since they don't show the entire match.  But yes, based on the footage that was shown, it looked like T2 was on top the entire time.

I dunno, the only damage Biohazard could cause was via the hazards. But, I agree with you more than I disagree.
