I love how smooth your animated previews are.

Bot looks both destructive and solid as all hell, looking forward to seeing this one in the arena!

I really like it, especially how you did the front section. HS with actual drive motors instead of weapon spam is also always nice to see. Really good job my dude, it's a lovely build. If you end up AI-ing it, I would recommend some variant of Rammer instead of Omni, as you have strong drive. If you use Omni, it will chase the other bot down and you'll never get a chance to actually spin up your weapon.
I've actually been playing around with the various AI profiles for these two, however never thought about using Rammer, I may have to give that one a go now, cheers!

Side note, this is quickly becoming my favourite showcase thread on the site (not that there are thousands to choose from anymore or anything, sadly)
Y'all are too damn nice, you know that? Hopefully I can continue to keep up the high standard for you

Contests / Re: Vote BOTM October IRL

1) Some the cleanest extender work I've seen and I love the theming of the splash, definitely earned my vote.
2) The skinning is incredible, the body shape is unique and the weapon looks mean as all hell, a very close second.
3) Straight up trash  ;)
4) Horrible cropping/keying aside a really nice looking bot with a weapon you don't see everyday. Also like the two tone effect on the front.

Say hello to MORTAL COIL and it's devastating 6MAG powered angled spinner.
Again I was experimenting with different body shapes and came up with this little
beauty. It is super hard hitting and pretty rapid thanks to its wide wheelbase however
the exposed disc is a prime target for hammers and it's flat front means that if it is
flipped on to the disc it has no way to self right, sadly.

It felt odd to me making a bot outside of my usual colour scheme so I also ended up
playing around with the colours and made a KupaTec branded variant BULLSHOT:

I'm not going to lie, I read the title as "Imma start screaming" and expected drama.

But yes, best of luck to you and hopefully I'll catch a stream at some point in the near future. Lord knows I could use more streamers to watch that don't just play the flavour of the month.

Tutorials and Tips / Kupas IRL Panel Skinning Templates
« on: September 17, 2019, 06:06:37 AM »
I made these for my personal use to help when skinning panels as I found the template from Bildschirms amazing skinning tutorial (found here) to be a little confusing and it doesn't really scale well to the power of 2 sizes that RA2 accepts. Also, it didn't have all the sizes or guides for the triangle pieces so I thought I should fill those gaps too.

PANELS:

Panels start from the bottom left corner. The first measurement is the Y axis and then the second is the X.
For example a 40x60 panel would go up to the 40 green line and across to where the 60 red line intersects. The outer edges of the lines represent the outer edge of the panel.
One major thing to note is that 120 panels are a little strange and reuse the texture starting from the left hand side and out to approximately half of the *x40 green line. Personally I avoid using 120 panels if I want to skin them but you're free to give it a go.

TRIANGLES:

A little more complex this time around as the triangles aren't aligned to the bottom left corner as I expected them to be.
For the right angled triangles (40x40, 60x60 etc) follow the 100 black line upwards until you get to where the size you're looking to make intersects.
40x60 and 60x100 (strangely labelled as 60x120 in game) are also included and just require the usage of their green/red outlines respectively.
Again, outer edges of the lines represent the outer edges of the panel, and 120 sized triangles are even more confusing so just don't use them.

Hopefully these are clear and simple enough to use for all your panel skinning goodness and I can't wait to see what you guys come up with!

I love the custom axe head on Nzappa Zap. The shape, the colours, and the little tribal bordering on the chassis really brings the whole bot together, great work!

Off-Topic Discussion / Re: BOTM and Challenge Belt Feedback
« on: September 15, 2019, 01:30:33 PM »
I would like to offer a newcomers perspective if I may?

I think BOTM is in a good place right now, if a little dead sometimes so I won't really comment on that. I was a little confused how to enter at first but that's just cos I didn't read things properly.

However the Challenge Belt is a completely incomprehensable thing to me. I don't understand how to put my name forward or what defines the titles and rules. I've read through the stickied threads a couple of times now to figure it out and the closest instruction for entering I've found is: "challenge the current champion" with no guidance as to how. Should i drop them a PM; make a post; or reply to the latest challenge? Again, I may have missed something but I'm still pretty confused about the whole thing, which is a shame cos I would love to take part one day.

That's a really sick shape
Looks like a wipeout ship lmao. I really love the panelwork you've done on the sides, the only problem I could see with it is since the flipping arm is so long it could have some issues tossing other bots. Other than that though it's super solid. Keep up the great work man
Thanks guys, it has that WipEout crossed with an Arwing look going for it, which I love. In terms of the flipping arm length it's great when being human driven as I can pick and choose my throwing angles by moving further under the opponent but the AI is probably not going to be anywhere near that smart. Luckily it can toss full HWs around with ease even using just the bottom quarter.

Long, fast and surprisingly powerful. What started as an experiment in learning how to make
interesting wedge shapes ended up as a neat little CW Flipper Bot capable of going toe to toe
with even HW bots in AI testing. I am really quite happy with this bot other than the glaring
weakness of it's low battery capacity which has made for some tense matches!

Massive thank you to TheRoboteer for helping me out with getting the panel work just right.

The way you skinned those ramplates was a nice touch, its also the best bot from a newcomer too

Great to see new people here on the forums
Thanks for the welcome and very kind words! Hopefully I can continue to impress!

Damn man, that looks pretty sick.  Welcome by the way.

I do agree with the others on the concern of the weapon clipping the drive motors, but that's about it.  Mad props for taking the time to even skin the panels.
I have messed around a bit with the design and extended out the weapon arm (while also reinforcing it) as seen below. I like to make my bots stand out from the rest, and what better way than opening up photoshop and messing around for a bit to get something neat looking. Honestly now that I've gotten the hang of it I'm hoping to be able to get much wilder with my designs.

No super fancy splash this time as it's only a minor revision to hopefully enter in the MM3 tourney if I can figure out how.
Extended out the weapon arm by 10cm to completely erase any worry of clipping with the drive motors, as well as buffing the arms
strength to a blend of Steel and Titanium using the weight I still had available to me, this has toughened up the bot significantly.

bro wtf why ur bots look so good
I'll take that as a compliment, I do worry when making my bots that I am sacrificing some performance in the name of aesthetics but so far I think it's been worth it.

Nice work with the skinning on the panels. It looks as though the beaters on the drum are gonna clip the front of the drive motors when the drum spins though, which would rule it out of being IRL. I could be wrong though. If it is the case that it does clip, I'd suggest maybe trying NPCs/NPC fasts arranged like so:
[ Quoting of attachment images from other messages is not allowed ]

Again though, really nice work. You're already well ahead of several people who've been building far longer than you have.
You did have me worried there about the beater bars, but I think it was just a trick of the camera angles I had used, as I went in to the lab to check and while it is a tight squeeze there was no overlapping. That NPC configuration is neato, thanks for showing me! I did attempt to build something with them but every attempt ended up with a really wide body, however you may have just shown me the magic trick to making decently compact NPC drives!

Could probably be a CW looking at it, with just 1 E-Tek powering the drum, but it's fine as a hw if it gets a little more speed.
I did experiment with getting it down to CW by dropping one of the E-Teks and stripping some of the armour, but could not seem to strip those final few kilos while keeping it looking "good", instead it is currently a slightly underweight HW.

Oh and Twisted Fate 2 for MM3 champ don't @ me
Well, no pressure then!  :laughing

And here she is, as you can see I figured out how to skin parts and went a bit mad with all the panels.
Drive upgraded to TWM3R2s which has, along with the lowered weight, turned it from a slow hitter to a feisty demon.
Rear, side and top panels are titanium, extenders aluminium and the front armour is steel.

Now to figure out how the hell AI'ing works so I can set this boy loose in tourneys!

It looks pretty sweet and I like the layered armor idea, but its gonna struggle with its speed

If you could upgrade to twmr2s (it looks like you could have the space if you move the batteries to the middle) I think it would be much better
Not bad bots gonna say, however on a 2wd TWMR motors are pretty much suicide
Thanks for the advice guys, I have been working on a Version 2 by shuffling around the internals a bit to use the TWM3R2s, and stripping down a bit of the less important armouring in order to gain a boost in speed to bring TWISTED FATE up to a competitive level.

I'll concur with the others, and also suggest adding extra beaters to the drum so they properly stretch from edge to edge. It would look better (IMO), and be more effective. You might have to strip some of the armour layers off, or downgrade them, to save enough weight. If so, then start with the back armour; apart from Parsec matches or melees, nobody's ever going to hit you there.
I didn't want to make a straight bar of beaters as they would intersect due to the drum layering and it felt a bit cheaty, imo. However, in version 2, I am making the weapon look nicer by adding in extra beaters with a new layout. Thank you for the advice on the armour however, that too has been put in to effect.

Extenders clipping through things is *generally* fine, because IRL you could just cut holes or slots in the extenders. There are exceptions, but in terms of what you've done, you should be okay.
Ah, that's excellent to hear, thank you.

Behold TWISTED FATE, an experiment in compact drum spinner design that didn't really pan out as I wanted.
Covered in layered armour, and capable of wreaking destruction even while inverted, this bot is a bit of a mighty glacier.

This may be a project I revisit at some point but for now it stands as a powerful, rugged, but very slow bot.
I'm also not too sure if it counts as IRL legal due to the batteries and tops of the drive motors being in extenders.

Jesus Frickin Christ how.

Welcome to GTM, also now I'm intrigued
Thanks for the welcome, I just kinda threw things together until they looked somewhat decent, to be honest. This is something like the 10-15th revision of this bot so it just came with time and relentless rebuilding.

Wonderful stuff, I must say.

I noticed that the front angled armour panel can be flipped, then they can run flush with the wedge edges. Oh, and its got some Jilted Lover vibes :^)
Oooh, that may help me neaten up the front end a bit as no matter how I wrangled with the angled corner edge piece it didn't quite work out right. Also just went and checked out Jilted Lover and damn it is a bit similar, isn't it; I hope I'm not going to cause any issues there?

Great work my man. A tiny bit of messiness where the angle corners meet the wedge, but there's bots built by people with 10+ years of experience with worse than that so don't worry about it at all

All in all, it looks well thought-out, and well put together, which is very, very high praise for a first bot. Look forward to seeing what you put out in the future
Thank you very much! Yeah, as I said up above I just could not get that corner to look right, this was the least messiest version that I was happy with.

I must say I am loving the warm reception and I'm looking forward to creating more bots to show you guys!
