Showcases / Cringey makes RR2 bots #LIKEABOSS
« on: August 04, 2019, 09:10:21 AM »
I love the hell out of this game. It's just so fun to use and fight with the pre-made bots and even my own. I'm still working out the kinks of it while I make the transition from RA2. So, I decided to start off my showcase with a replica. I have no idea if my spinner stats are any good, so you all might have to tell me.

Off-Topic Discussion / I quit.
« on: December 09, 2018, 07:49:20 AM »
Hey guys. I just wanted to make this announcement really quick.
I quit.
I can't do RA2 anymore. I can't do tournaments anymore. I just can't over the past few weeks everything just feels like a chore to do. RA2 just isn't what it used to be for me. When I got my new computer, the first thing I thought was "OK, I need to make something for so and so's tournament." Notice how I said "need" instead of "want". I didn't need to build anything. I never have. I just thought I did.
Before I go, I want to thank everybody here. It's been a nice year or so with you guys, and you guys have been excellent people throughout. I'm not leaving because of you. I'm not leaving because of a failed tournament or whatever. I'm leaving because I can't find enjoyment in playing RA2.
If an admin wants to delete my account, go ahead, because chances are that I won't return for a while. Sorry this was so short, I just wanted to get this off my chest. Many of you may hate me for making such a big deal of it, so go ahead. At least I won't be here to hear it.
Thanks.

Other Tutorials / Beginning Builds- A Beginner's Guide
« on: November 14, 2018, 04:29:49 PM »
I've seen a lot of these tutorials getting spread around, so I feel like I should try and make one.

So, you just got an account on GTM, and you cannot wait to show off your first builds! However, there is just one thing wrong. You do not have any builds. Ideas are up in the air to show this community. If you are having trouble with this, you might want to read this guide.

For starters, it doesn't have to be a masterpiece. I know you've been looking around in some of our showcases and want to make some elegant extenderbots, but hold your horses. All builders have to start somewhere. In fact, if you look at the very beginning of our showcases, you may see very different robots and building styles than what we build now. However, do not build something for the sake of building. You'll end up with something that you and the people of this community are not proud of. While these two rules may seem to contradict one another, it really just means that build what you want to build, but don't drag yourself down if it is not of the standards you see builders building today.

Another thing to take into consideration when building is what are you building this for. There are two main ways to build: competitavely and artiscally. when building with competition in mind, you want your robot to kick robutt in tournaments in such. you must understand which components are more effective than others, weight and damage wise. This type of building is a lot harder to begin with, so most begin by making artbots. Artbots are made to look nice, not to destroy the opponent. If you were to enter this into a tournament, it would get demolished after winning a fight or two by a long-time veteran builder. As stated before, they don't have to be blue-moon artworks, but rather a nice-looking creation showing that you want to be a part of the community.

Building styles are also important when entering tournaments. When in the "Personal Tournaments" section, you may find some posts saying "IRL", "DSL-S", and other such terms. Well, these terms mean what building style and what tools should be used in crafting a robot for a tournament. Building styles can be further explained here: https://gametechmods.com/forums/tutorials-and-tips/beginners-guide-to-building-styles/

And before you go asking in the comments, yes, you can make a good looking AND comeptitive bot, but it is something even veteran builders struggle at.

OK, so say you finally got your art robot done. You take a screenshot, attach the image, and post it to your showcase. However, the ruthless members of the RA2 community tear it to shreds, bashing it for its ineffectiveness and blandness. Do not take it personally, as it is something we all experience during our stay at GTM. Don't go insulting the community, don't go into an edgy phase. Instead, listen to the few criticisms that you may have recieved to improve the roobt, or even make a new one.

Now say that you went for the competitive path, and your robot gets destroyed on the first round. As stated before, do not curse the world and blame the host for the loss. Instead, learn from your opponent to destroy them next time a tournament arises. However, what you don't want to do is make your robot a tryhard. Do not add multiple large typhoon teeth with little aesthetic surrounding the rest of the robot, as they ruin the fun for all involved in the tournament.

So guys, that'll do for my first tutorial. I attempted to make something not as technical and mechanical as other guides, but instead opting to make something to educate the new members on how to get their paths to greatness started the right way. If there is anything I missed, let me know and I will add it. Thank you, and goodbye.

You all wanted this on Discord, so here you are!
RULES:
DSL IRL
The minimum weight is Middleweight. The maximum is Super Heavyweight.
It must be based on a Pokemon. Not loosley, but almost identically mimics it.
Other than that, go nuts! Skins, BFE's, OBJRA2, RA2CF, ANYTHING GOES! We want this tourney to be fun, not competitive. That is probably why I'm not going to get to it immediately. (I still have AotA to do.)
You can enter up to 6 entries, much like the real Pokemon games.
If someone already has built a Pokemon, you can still build said Pokemon if you want.
I will not be entering, as I am not nearly as talented as some of you are,
MATCHES:
5 minute rounds.
Entrants will compete under one trainer (the person who sends them in) who will compete in a single elimination bracket. Two Pokemon will fight. When one faints/loses a judge decision, the next Pokemon goes out to face the winner. When all of the Pokemon on one team have fainted, the winner moves on.
A Pokemon wins when it faints the opponent or wins a judge decision, which will be decided by me.
Build hard, fight hard, it's Pokemon fighting time!
Entrys:

So I made this to show off my Centauri builds, basically because that's the only reason why I play Ironforge.
Anywho, this is a rental bot I made. Bludgeoner with Steel 10. No name/no skin. That is for the user to decide. PM me for the bot.

Now, you all already know Ferromite, a bot I had built for me by Mystic2000. I really liked this design and I thank Mystic for taking their time making this. I also hold no grudge against them for Ferromite's poor performance. That was solely me and my driving.

My current entry is Ground Zero EVO. I wanted to bring the DSL-S MW's name out of retirement (I tried other times to no avail). The front hinged flipper has been replaced by a huge frick-off spinner which can do some damage.

« on: August 22, 2018, 10:18:46 AM »
i felt like it

As the lights flickered, I saw Bronco-chan on the other side. Their face stern, flipper down. As a newbie, I felt honored to fight such a legend. A voice from the distance shouted "It's robot fighting time!" Bronco-chan rushed towards me as i rushed towards him. They utilized their PRIMARY WEAPON to get under me as I let out a soft moan. They flipped me high up into the air, only to land back on their flipper as the crowd cheered. They proceeded to shove me against the side wall and flip me again. Never have I ever felt better in my life. However, this time, I was outside the arena. The cold floor snapped me back to reality. I had lost, but Bronco-chan was happy, so I was too. Bronco is love. Bronco if life.

Tournament Archives / Each One Like Another (EOLA)
« on: August 19, 2018, 06:03:48 AM »
So I had this idea floating around in my head for a while, and I wanted to see how it would turn out. Don't worry! AotA is still going, so keep on sending in your submissions!
Anyways, onto the rules.
BUILDING:
DSL 2.3
IRL
Component freedom is allowed
OBJRA2 and BFE are also allowed
cheatbot2 is allowed, but not for the competitive section, so make two versions if you use cheatbot2!
Although allowed, keep custom components to a minimum
You will be building a replica of a robot I choose. If you already have a replica of said bot, you are 100% allowed to enter it.
COMPETITION
While this tournament is more focused on seeing how talented builders react given a task, there will be a small fighting aspect, so make sure your bot looks and fights good!
BB or RW arena (depends on recreate)
Matches are 3 minutes
Hazards on
In case of havok, the match will restart. If it is continuous, the problem bot will be disqualified
single elimination
32 entrants (may change later)

If anything else needs to be said or changed, let me know. I am still fairly new to this whole thing.

Game Development / Robot Pounding Game: A Robot Combat RPG
« on: August 07, 2018, 03:24:25 PM »
i was looking around the battlebots subreddit and found a post showcasing a game, similar to D&D, but with famous robot fighters. I though it was nice, but I couldn't stop thinking of if this was a video game. thus, I made this. it is INSANELY BAD AND CRAPPY, but this is more of to get a feel of what this game could be. You will need to use Construct 3 to run this.

So I decided to start skinning components. However, when I try and open the new component, it comes up with the old map (in this case the sawblade.) I am using DSL 2.3, and the game works fine. It is just that one piece. Can anyone help?

I noticed that people build 36HS and such in stock, and they claim it is "without ra2CF". Not saying that they are wrong, by the way. I just want to learn how to. Can anyone teach me?
