ok gamers good news, staff has the bots (or bad news considering staff's hosting record  heck)

I'm willing to run one of the brackets PWS style with havoks and crashes being ruled as immediate judges decisions for times sake. Hoppin also said he'd be willing to chip in after he's done with RA2 Open.

more than likely the entire tournament will not be completed, (we don't have the shw bindings, so the division is a 100% a no go) but we might be able to complete a few brackets that people are the most interested in.

tldr post what brackets you would like to see finished. shw is a no no
You might as well carry on with the HW division, seeing that the qualifying round of said division was meant to start, before doot had multiple issues down his end. Other than that, I would like to at least the LW, MW and CW division being finished, because I personally feel that these divisions have a high potential of being the most enjoyable divisions, especially with the later having the most bots in one division, making users wanting to see a champion out of all 51 bots.

All these bots look great! Especially the drum/flipper hybrid, which both weapons are implemented  rather well.

Thoughts and opinions on the entries:
18+: A good way to sacrifice the offence for defence having a lot of casters on the front, though .
BioPsyche: It's a HS. Nothing else to see here.
Claws Jr.:Pretty much a solid HS. I don't have much as to say.
Dusk Runner: It's a pop-up with pretty shallow wedge. Probably the one to look for.
Eos: It's just a pop-up. There's also a hidden image somewhere on the bot if you look hard enough.
Gold Dust: It's a pop-up. With one wedge and samurai sword protecting the extenders
Hysteria: Guessing Sickle didn't get the idea when he first entered. With the main weapon being too high up, lacking the weaponry to out weapon a lightweight, and non invertability. I have no hope for this entry.
Irony: That's a lot of razors on the front. But with the lack of defence measures, it's going to be out weaponed and out gunned when up against another HS.
Kill me mini: Strange going for the Mud runner tyres when other options like shiny hubs are available. But never or less, a decent HS.
Patheticus: It's good to see that FBI finally entered a tournament. Looks good for a pop-up, though with a wide chassis wedge, and a single wedge. This will be out wedged.
Sans: Just a generic HS. Nothing else to see.
Seismic Activity: Generic pop-up
Sponsor Shark: That's a lot of axe heads. Though looks somewhat slow for a rammer only using two wheel drive instead of four wheel drive. Have to see how it fairs.
Static wedge: That wedge is going to ripped off with ease. But other than that, I do see a potential within the feeder even without the wedge.
Thonker bot: Unusual seeing a Hammer bot out of a bunch pop-ups and HSs. But this looks interesting.
Why not lift: TBH Pretty much useless, being that this is an IRL Flipper in Stock Unreal when the objective is to cause as much damage as possible, I don't see any potential in this entry.

Off-Topic Discussion / Re: ra2
« on: February 23, 2019, 01:37:10 PM »
ya, i voted "no longer interested" but it's not exactly true. i like to watch tournaments, give advice to players, see dope sh** that other people build etc.

though my actual time spent playing ra2 is at max one hour per month or so. i only ever build and you'll never see me testing builds or such.

also what reier said. IRL may be nice to look at but in the end i was never really interested by it, with some exceptions such as the best IRL builders. DSL-S on life support now, seeing the showcases. it's a bit sad considered I was one of the guys that made DSL-S along with folk like Reier, Urjak, R0B0, Madman, Scrap Daddy/Virus Bomb, 123, Martymidget etc... but things die out in time.
This TBH.

In my case, I'm interested in watching RA2 tournaments and may give a "little" advice, but with university and me losing interest within the game overall, I don't play it as much. Partially my lack of interest is also due to the fact when I get a game, I just want to be able to pick it up and play. RA2 isn't really one of those game. Sure, contradict me and say that you can just cobble a bot together in five minutes or more. But it's about what most of the community wants: A good looking bot that fights well. Which when I try, I feel like only getting negative feedback with very little positive notes, making me feel a bit depressed. But that's just me taking in anything negative first before the positives, or me just being a little too hard on myself.

hi i would like to enter the tournament
here is  my bot
https://gametechmods.com/forums/botexchange/8769_schredel_kirin01.zip
It would be preferable if you did send a private message to Badnik containing your bot/zip, instead of posting it on this thread. I'm not the tournament host, but remember this for the future.

I'll post vids of the exciting matches. Not the boring ones.
Even if you say the match is boring, it still would be nice to actually see what happen, instead of describing the outcome through a wall of text. Otherwise all we assume is that all the bots just moved around, not knowing what else happen inbetween the start of the match, to all three rumble losers falling into the pit one way or another.

A pre-tournament rumble between Black Spirits, Testify, Mage, and Fusion.
Unfortunately, Black Spirits couldn't compete as a multibot, so only one of the bots entered the rumble.

The match started out in favor of Testify, as Testify damaged Mage almost instantly, knocking Mage into the pit. Fusion managed to hit Black Spirit, throwing it off balance. Testify then struck Black Spirit, critically damaging it. By then Mage had driven itself into the pit, and was out. Testify struck Black Spirit one more time, before becoming unstable and landing in the pit- a major upset.
[ Quoting of attachment images from other messages is not allowed ]
Black Spirits moved to 1-0, while Testify, Mage, and Fusion moved to 0-1.
For someone who's trying to prove that Wandering spinners are effective in combat, hosting a tournament full of them to prove such point by showing us the first rumble. But instead of posting a video of said rumble, so that everyone on gtm can see what point you're putting forward, and causally enjoy the video. You instead explain the events through a wall of text with only one screenshot of said match, leaving everyone scratching their heads wandering what happen between each key event, making your case point unable to move out of the personal claim territory to a hard case fact.

But seriously. No one on gtm wants to read a wall of text of a match from a tournament. Remember the key rule: Show don't tell! It's better to show us the match through a video so that everyone will be able to see what happen during the rumble in it's full glory to prove your case point, instead of telling it through words when we'll become quickly bored, confused, and stop reading it after even a few words.

Keep the double elimination. It works well for this sort of tournament being easy to set up with all the metas.

Like wise, I would like to see an selection of definite back-up hosts. Seeing the course of the last tournament, Badnik wasn't a bad host until hardware difficulties and other issues occurred, resulting in GTMCS2 being put on hiatus for weeks or even months. Because Badnik was the only  host, no one could just pick-up the tournament from when the host slips on schedule due to Badnik, holding onto the majority of GTMCS2's bots and AI bindings. It wasn't until Kill step in around September last year to give the files to the mods. As a result, the tournament took almost a year to complete, when it could of been over much quicker. By having definite, multiple hosts, if one slips on schedule, another could take over with ease, preventing most of the issues from last time around.

I'm down for another GTMCS. Personally I'd prefer just straight up the same straight double elim format as the last one but executed in a more timely manner. To me a heat/group format just doesn't seem right for an "official" tourney.

Gotta have all 3 of the main metas represented in my mind too, since this is meant to represent all of GTM.

Don't agree with allowing multiple entries either. 1 or maybe 2 in each meta seems about right to me. Force people to narrow down to their best rather than reentering the same old sh** we've seen 45 times before in other tournies.
This TBH.

Contests / Re: Vote BOTM February 2019 (Unrealistic)
« on: January 30, 2019, 02:01:53 PM »
Thoughts and opinions:
1. I'm finding it strange why there needs to be additional set of 2 irons on the top, when there's a least two large sets for the main weaponry. It could be for controlling other bots if they drive on, but if that's the case, then why need a DDT? Also, the set-up could of been better by using razors tips for the main weapon over iron spikes despite what Redalert thinks.
2. That's a pretty impressive freak bot, viscous and looks effective. It appears that RedAce has won my vote yet again.

Do you know just how many weapons this "thing" breaks? Many of their popups lose their weapons whenever this bot whacks them. This bot has also been known to break HS as well. On exposed designs, Irons are best.

How it beat Seism13 and Bounty hunter-
WHACK!
Seism loses one of its razors.
WHACK!
Bounty Hunter loses a few razors.
WHACK!
Seism just lost its remaining razors, and its chassis is totaled.
WHACK!
Bounty Hunter has lost a wedge.
WHACK!
Seism 13 smashed to its fate.
WHACK!
Bounty Hunter destroyed.
I dunno much about how strong the bot is but if your going to counter someones point you should probably make it more structured and instead give further insight.
Besides, just because you [Redalert] manged to destroy some AI, BBEANS opponents by controlling your bot, doesn't mean that the same will happen if the bot was being controlled by the AI, thus leads to a chance of disproving some of the claims you've made.

Thoughts and opinions:
1. Hi Redalert! Moving on.
2. I love how the bot captures the sgt. bash vibe. But it could of benefited if the builder used the remaining weight on either better armour, a small SRIMECH or something.
3. I can't say a lot about this one, but it's pretty generic. At least the builder could of shown us a shot of the internals or some stats such weight to have a better insight into the bot .

Pretty sure they never got rid of them in bongland
wtf since when did we have taco bell
I remembered my Dad telling me about when Taco Bell first set up in the London back in the 1980's, before they closed down due to a lack of customers and business. It's a shame it never really took off.

I love the idea of being able to openly create components through the component tool. I feel that if this is going to be in-placed, I would love to see support/interrogation of the Steam workshop or at least have somewhere on the internet for player and mod creators to share the components they've made through this tool, for other users to download and play around with.

I'm a fan of suggestion three. Being that anyone who looks at the front page can go a see any tournament in sign-ups, without having to scroll through the forums to get to the desired thread, allowing for users to pick-up and join tournaments with ease.

Apart from that. I feel that the wiki isn't really being used that much. With exceptions of users performing minor edits on their user page, and when a certain someone spammed up the wiki more recently. Said wiki is used as much as a broken knife. So, either we could encourage users to make edits and expand upon wiki, updating upon outdated articles such as updating the article about razor tips, or just adding more knowledge on tournaments etc. Alternatively, we could just get rid of it all together since it's not being used by anyone at the moment.

DSL TC Showcases / Re: Redalert's rare DSL builds and WS
« on: January 14, 2019, 12:32:54 PM »
I feel that your weapon motor is way too high. Switch out the base anchor with a extender anchor to lower the dual TWM3R2. That way when you create the shell, you find that you'll have some weight left over for better weapons such as large typhoon teeth etc.

59
Because It's a great foundation for building ideas.
Look, I told you some time ago on this thread on why this tutorial was pointless and unnecessary. But instead of taking the word to heart and deciding that "I was wrong. Wandering spinners are fun to make, but I should listen to those who know what they are doing because of their years of experience within RA2", you instead counter argue about why your point of view is correct and dismiss a large majority of outside views. Even when there is evidence right in your face from anyone other than yourself, you end up making some excuse like the design is faulty etc. It isn't that hard to listen to what others have to say, and being able to taking criticism is a important part of bot building on GTM. I've have seen you having times when you listen to what others like Reier and Badnik been saying, but if you aren't going to be listening to us for all the advice we have been giving you: Then what's the point of helping someone, if they're just going to counter argue on every-point we make?
